You will do exercises totally oriented to improve your surfing, as well as a photo analysis with correction of errors with the photos of all the group of that week, including yours!

Calima Surf is open all year so you can come any day you want to and you will start the program the day after your arrival. Please take notice Calima Surf doesn't give any surf lessons on Sunday.

The "Healthy Surf Camp" is a program for beginners with two hours and a half of surf lessons per day. Once you have booked your place, you can keep surfing on your own! Please take notice this material must be left in the surf school before 6 p.m.

Evenings at the "Healthy Camp"

Monday

You will start the classes with theory on the tips of the most common mistakes in surfing, which will help you to understand and progress in your surfing from the first day. Next, you will start with physical activity at the gym, with a series of exercises designed to improve your balance and strengthen the core. For this, the Calima Surf team will use the special Drysurf System Balance boards, a great complement to improve surfing. In addition to the Gyroboards that will help you simulate the turns on a board, TRX and Bosus, will reinforce the take-off, the paddling and finish with a good stretch.

Tuesday

You will provided with theoretical classes in which you will talk about all those factors that affect the waves and the practice of surfing (since you are in a changing environment) that will help you get the most out of your hours in the water. It is essential to know how tides work, the wind, types of bottoms and currents, how waves are formed and interpretation of weather forecast maps.

You will also be taught rules of surfing and correct behavior in the water with other surfers, knowledge and care of the material, differentiation of the different models of boards and know what would be advisable if you wanted to buy one, know how to differentiate the quality of wetsuits (basic sewing, flat seam, sealed seam and integral), you will learn to put wax on the board, when it is necessary to use base wax and the different types of waxes according to the temperature of the water, and how to comb and clean the board. To summarize, you will learn everything you need to know to continue enjoying and practicing this exciting sport.

Thursday

After a few days of learning and with the photos taken throughout these days, the group will make a correction of errors through the photos taken of the whole group. This is a dynamic and fun way to learn, observing both your mistakes and those of your classmates, as well as the details that you do correctly. The team will make a personalized photo-analysis and will be able to correct postural errors and timing.

Then, they will continue with a little more of advanced theory from which beginners, intermediate, and advanced students will benefit. How to pass the wave barrier (turtle and duck), how to situate yourself in the line-up, how to catch waves at the peak and useful tips to go in search of the waves.

You will also enjoy a second class of dry-surf with a more functional approach. For this clase, please do not forget your sportswear and towel, you will sweat!

Friday

You will enjoy a yoga class or stretching for beginners and intermediate, another healthy way to stretch the body through basic postures. Here you will realize the need of your body to accustom it to a daily stretching routine.

Location

Lanzarote

Lanzarote, as a natural place, offers unique characteristics of Spain. A part of the great extensions of different lava typologies that you can find in the Timanfaya and Malpaìs de la Corona Natural Parks are fields of wind sands (el jable de Famara) marine, and coast ambients like no other. El Rìo, between La Graciosa and Lanzarote and the southwest beaches. Where a multitude of species and subspecies of flora and fauna co-exist and well adapted to these conditions and therefore really endemic. 17% of plants, 60% of nesting birds, 40% of insect, and 100% of reptiles are endemic to the island.

According to Storm-Rider-Guide 98, Lanzarote is the "European Hawaii", with its mystic and volcanic extensions and its great variety of waves, from the perfect classic waves to the typical isolated beaches with small waves perfect for beginners.

Lanzarote and other Canary islands constitute a crucial cross between Europe, Africa, and America. They are located 1000 kilometers away from peninsular Spain and 100 kilometers away from African coasts. North of Lanzarote has situated a hundred small island called archipelago Chinijo (small).

Lanzarote is by far the northernmost island of the Canaries. This means it is the most exposed to north, northeast, and northwest swells, which are the most common swells in the Canary Islands. Therefore, this island gets the best and most frequent waves. There are more than 30 high-quality surfing spots on Lanzarote. Some of them are:

  • San Juan: A tube leftwards bowling wave with the south-facing wind, at high tide the right can also be ridden, the leftwards wave has two peaks that in good conditions are just one wave, when there is west swell, only the second peak can be ridden, if the swell is north with a little bit of breeze from the south, you’re guaranteed an incredible surfing experience.
  • El Muelle: Incredible left-facing wave with 2 barreling sections, watch your head on the second section, more than a few have taken the risk at the end and messed it up. The right can also be ridden, it’s great for maneuvers as it’s much less barreling than the left.
  • El Codito: Found on the west end of the beach, often breaks well leftwards and at 50 meters, you can have a good time riding it rightwards.

Famara Beach

Famara Beach is one of the most famous spot for surfing in Lanzarote. In Famara Beach, you will see dozens of different types of waves. It very much depends on the state of the sandbanks on the seabed and with every strong swell the low points tend to change. As well as El Codito, you can find el Molino, Los Bungalos, el Bunquer, el Palo, the kiters zone and el Papelillo. If you come to Famara beach, you come to a surfing paradise and tranquility.

Located in the center of the Natural Reserve of Archipelago Chinijo, this is a unique place with a special charm that you cannot miss. The beach has a length of approximately six miles of sand with different types of surf spots perfect for all surf levels and the waves are guaranteed because of the constants swells between north and west, sheltered by a cliff of 600 meters high and extraordinary views. Famara Beach has been recognized numerous times as one of the best beaches in Spain and its protected status make it remains virtually untouched.
