"Amazing week thanks to Ally and Cal"

Ally and Cal where amazing instructors. They exlained all the movements on the board very well and help my a lot catching green waves. They also made us all feel very welcomed in whangamata. They showed us the town and even organized special activitys when the weather wasnt so good.

"We had a great time "

We really enjoyed the daily surf and yoga lessons and the instructors were always nice and helpful. The hostel is pretty small which creates a cozy and friendly atmosphere, also the beach is just a 5 minutes walk away. The possibility to hire a Surfboard and wetsuit even after the lessons and the possible activities in the hostel like Quiz night or Barbeque were pretty cool and we really enjoyed our time there.

"Highlight of our trip"

We had the best time at the Surf’n’Stay Hostel. Everything was just perfect. It’s so cheap too, while giving you a crazy good experience. We were traveling as a couple so we had a private room, which was really spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was nice and clean, and so was the kitchen. We had everything we needed for cooking and loved the simple but very delicious breakfast they prepared for us every morning. The staff there was super friendly. It didn’t even feel like they were staff, to be honest, more like other likeminded travelers. We had Cat, Piere and Matt as our surfing instructors and all three of them were just lovely and very skilled surfers. The Yoga class was held by Hannah, who was the happiest, most adorable and patient teacher. We learned a lot in our days at the hostel, made new friends from all over the globe and would’ve loved to stay even longer. Would highly recommend anyone to go, if they get the chance. The Surf and Yoga package is really worth it but the hostel, especially with the lovely people living there, is worth a visit in general.

Big love to the team,

Mik&Anna

"Great people, great surf, great place! "

Everyone was so nice, Instructors and guests alike. The town is quiet, or at least the time of year I went, and the water is beautiful. The instructors are knowledgeable and I learned a lot while there. I made some great friends here and had an amazing time. The vibe is very chill and I will definitely be back!

"I learned how to surf and got some new friends."

The way they teach us how to surf is really good. After one lesson I had enough confidence to ho out of the break water and out to the green waves!

They make you laugh at your mistakes and they all were really good at explaining what to do next.

There were always a good mood, and smiling people.

Breakfast was included so that is nice.

"An awesome time at Whangamata"

I loved the time I spent in Whangamata last week. The Surf n Stay hostel was amazing. The girls at the reception Amanda and Cristal did an awesome job welcoming everyone and making us feel at home. I had 4 surfing lessons with Ronan, Sam and Doug and they were just fantastic!

"Relaxed atmosphere and friendly "

Being a little older, I was unsure whether would I’d “fit in”, but it didn’t take very long at all to feel at home and make some wonderful new friends. There were quite a number of solo travellers, which at first I mistook for being a group of friends because they were all so lovely and welcoming to each other, and then me. But there were also families/groups that stayed in there in the units. I had the single room which gave me a little of the privacy I felt I needed. The other travellers and staff were all so friendly. I felt very relaxed and not at all intimidated when walking alone. It was also nice to have surfing and yoga instructors who were so encouraging and helpful. Not once did I feel embarrassed or self conscious about my less than perfect surfing skills. I can’t wait to go back with my family and friends.

"Amazing experience"

I loved how close I was to the beach and the vibe of the backpackers. I am also returning this weekend because I just had such a great time! The instructors were amazing, knowledgeable and patient. The yoga was also really good.

"Great week learning to surf"

The surfing instruction was great. The lessons were a good length to allow for a lot of time surfing, but not too long that you'll be overtired for yoga. The yoga studio was only a 10 min walk away and the classes there were equally well taught.
