Bali is the tropical dream island that attracts people from all over the world, year after year. It has everything, from beautiful, secluded beaches to a vibrant nightlife. It was the perfect surf, and the exotic culture that started to attract the visitors in the late seventies, and 40 years later it is still that combination that enthralls visitors. The Balinese has a unique way of welcoming every guest with a sincere smile, while keeping their ancient traditions. And even if the island now is developed, you can still hop on your bike and be lost among the jungle and hidden temples within 20 minutes. Let Surf Lodge Limasan show you how to fall in love with Bali.
The coast of Bali boasts plenty of world-class surf. There are breaks suitable for just about everyone from beginners to pros. Most of the surf breaks are easily accessible by road or boat and you can surf with only a few other people out, sometimes all by yourself. The location of Surf Lodge Limasan provides a choice of both west coast and east coast surf, meaning that winds are offshore all year round, creating those azure blue waves that you normally only dream about.
Here is a list of some of the more known surf spots in Bali that Surf Lodge Limasan visits, but be sure, they know many more secluded ones.
Canggu has three different breaks which you can find in Batu Bolong, Echo Beach, and Berawa Beach. Located just about a 15-minute ride from Surf Lodge Limasan. As a surf spot, Canggu has a little bit of everything for everyone. Beginner rolling waves all the way to advanced barrels for experts. Be a bit wary as the reef can be a bit sharp during low tide.
Nowadays, Keramas break is becoming extremely popular. This break makes fast and hollow right-handers that average about five feet. This place is often home to competitions for Billabong and Oakley as it is often considered one of Bali’s best waves. You can also take part in night surfing here through Komune Resort and Beach Club! The black sandy beach goes on for ten miles, offering fantastic views of the sunset in the afternoon and of course, a few more surf spots along the beach strip.
Medewi is about a 1.5 - 2 hour's drive from Surf Lodge Limasan which is why you won’t find it as crowded as the rest of the spots in Bali. It has a beautiful rocky beach known for its long left-hander waves. Surf Lodge Limasan goes there sometimes for a full day trip and their guests usually come back home with their longest ride ever! The reef there can be pretty sharp so bringing boots is advisable. There are also a few “less known” spots in the area that they usually go and check out.
Home to the yearly Rip Curl Cup, Padang Padang is known for its long tube rides, as well as its sharp reef bottoms. Known as the Balinese Pipeline, this surf spot is definitely not for beginners when the waves are big. It has a gnarly left-hand wave that can range from about 5 - 12 feet. The reef here can get pretty sharp as well so booties might be a good option. There is, however, a gentle beach break on the right side which can accommodate beginners. Padang Padang is located between Bingin and Uluwatu and is a popular spot for surfers, making it a little bit crowded at times.
The breaks in Uluwatu are very technical and advanced. During the monsoon seasons, you can get swells as high as 15 feet. Here, you can catch a wave while looking up at the ancient Hindu shrine in the stunning Uluwatu temple. To reach the reef, you must paddle through the Uluwatu cave which can have very strong currents. As this spot is quite popular, it can also be quite crowded. Don’t worry as there are five different swells to choose from once in the area, namely The Racetrack, The Peak, Temples, Outside Corner, and the Bombie.
Juicy red tuna steaks, grilled with olive oil and garlic, served with a kale and apple salad, dashed with vinaigrette of honey and apple cider vinegar.
Nasi tumpeng is an Indonesian feast, with samples of Surf Lodge Limasan’s absolute favorites from the Indonesian archipelago. Beef rendang, sambal shrimps and other delicacies are served with saffron rice.
It’s a generous piece of tenderloin marinated in Asian spices served with a pasta salad with baby zucchini, cherry tomatoes, and some basil butter straight from the garden.
Fried chicken mince mixed with coriander and chili served with mixed greens, sambal, and fajitas.
Grilled pork loin marinated in chili and garlic served with oven roasted potatoes, and a creamy apple cider reduction sauce.
Massive beef burgers infused with feta cheese, chili, and spices served with garlic mustard dressing, veggies, and ciabatta bread.
A full rack of pork ribs, boiled and barbecued to perfection, marinated with chipotle and BBQ sauce served with a creamy coleslaw spiced with herbs from the garden.
