Risa Mara Machuca Schlanger
Risa Mara is from San Blas, Nayarit, Mexico. She has been guiding and instructing for four years. She is a skilled long boarder who loves to salsa on her board while playing with her switch stance. Most recent accomplishments include participating in the 2013 ISA International SUP in Peru. Furthermore, Risa was a part of the National Mexican SUP team and received two medals including a bronze as a team and a copper for the 4th position in women’s prone long distance.
This surf camp will take place in Sayulita, Mexico. This place is known for its consistent river-mouth surf break. Roving surfers discovered Sayulita in the late 1960s with the construction of Mexican Highway 200. Today, Sayulita is transforming into a prosperous growing village of approximately 4,000 residents. Sayulita offers a variety of land and water activities and hailed as a popular off-the-beaten-path travel destination,
The main break in Sayulita works at a medium tide. Low tide is better on the left but very shallow. Sayulita is popular of being Mecca for surfers at every skill level and every age. There are at least 3 places for surfing in Sayulita including La Lancha, San Pacho, and Burros.
La Lancha works best at medium to high tide consisting of point, beach, and reef breaks. All levels can have fun here. This is the best option for family surf and fun day.San Pancho has a better lower tide and advanced waves that are not recommended for beginners. Burros works best at a low tide recommended for Intermediate to advanced surfing. This place is rocky as well as mostly mossy and has lots of turtles. .
Sayulita also attracts tourist with numerous art galleries and restaurants. From all over the world, surfing enthusiasts flock to these beaches like a sacred site with their boards on their backs, their golden skin glistening, and hearts full with a passion for the sea.
In addition, this town breathes a cosmopolitan air. Sayulita has a curious eclectic quality, frequented by native Cora and Huichol peoples, traveling craftsmen as well as international tourists. Thus, it is common to hear people chatting in different language here.
People come and go catching waves in the beach every day. Beach and surfing can’t be separated when talking Sayulita. Surely, the spell of Sayulita is hard for you to be avoided.
