Windsurfing is a surface water sport that combines elements of surfing and sailing. It consists of a board usually two and a half to three meters long to three meters long, with displacements typically between 60 to 250 liters, powered by the wind on a sail. The rig is connected to the board by a free-rotating universal joint and consists of a mast, two-sided boom, and sail. The sail area generally ranges from two and a half square meters to twelve square meters depending on the conditions, the skill of the sailor, the type of windsurfing being undertaken, and the weight of the person windsurfing.
Surf Connect Wind and Kitesurfing School is the only accredited Windsurfing Training Centre of Yachting Australia in Brisbane. They have everything you need to improve your windsurfing skills. Whether you just want to try out the sport for the first time and windsurf for fun, or complete one of Yachting Australia certificated courses that are recognized nationally and internationally.
Most people gain basic sailing skills in a two-hour one-on-one lesson. Learning is the best in the early morning, when the breeze is gentle, where you focus more easily on the techniques and skills. It is important to take lessons only from professionally qualified instructors, who are not only insured to teach you but can give you the assurance that everything you need to learn is taught thoroughly and properly, and are able to give you qualifications that are recognized worldwide.
The first windsurf lesson
In your first lesson, you will spend about 30-45 minutes on land, going through all the safety, theory, setup and basic land drills, then the rest of your lesson is conducted on water.
Over the 2 hours, you should learn all the skills to know how to sail out, turn around and sail back to shore, together with the basic self-rescue skills.
