The accommodation is in the form of a delightful Indonesian styled surf camp situated in a small sheltered bay on the west coast of the island. There is a large garden surrounding the fenced resort, where we grow our own fruit and vegetables, to make sure fresh products are served every day. The main building has a TV, DVD player, audio system, a kitchen and a comfortable lounge. The camp also has its own saltwater swimming pool with a relaxing sundeck surrounding it. Enjoy a swim, make a campfire, or have a drink while watching the sunset. You can walk to the small beach, about 2 minutes away from the resort, or just enjoy your own private pool.

The lodge and cabanas are built in a typical Indonesian style, to keep the charm of the island and its culture in peace. All the accommodation and furniture are made by local professionals so no bricks or western style buildings are seen on the land. So it looks authentic Indonesian from the outside, but has got all the Western comfort from the inside, including soft beds/mattresses and mosquito nets for a good night sleep.

Guests will have their own private bathroom with a hot shower, toilet (western style) including shower supplies and a water dispenser with free coffee, tea, cold water, and Juice. They all have their own private veranda with comfortable sun loungers overlooking the stunning Indian ocean, the surf-break Dylans and an amazing sunset in the evening. The camp can accommodate up to 10 guests.

What Surf Camp Sumatra has to offer is one of the last frontiers in Indonesia! An almost undiscovered island off the coast of Sumatra: Pulau Simeulue (Simeulue Island). Its paradise for surfers, but when you dont fancy a session or just dont surf. You can; hang out, relax, go fishing, snorkeling, make some incredible hikes on the island, visit waterfalls, go spearfishing, take a trip to the deserted island only a boat ride away, enjoy a boat trip inland or just cruise on your motorbike to soak up the culture of Simeulue and find beautiful and mostly deserted beaches around the island.

How to get there

Arrival by airplane

Once you have booked your international flights to Medan (KNO) airport and paid your deposit, you can then contact Tom at [email protected] to arrange your domestic flights to Simeulue. Due to occasional domestic flight delays due to weather we recommend all guests book into a hotel both in and out of Medan to ensure that sufficient time is available for ticketing, luggage collection, and transfers. Once in Simeulue, Surf Camp Sumatra will pick you up from the airport. The pick-up is included in the price.
