Surf Camp Lombok is a dynamic place in harmony with local neighbors, going on their 9th year, they still have the passion for serious surf education in perfect waves. Learning to surf takes time, and their mission is to get you well prepared for continuing exploring on your own. Whether you are looking to improve your surfing or are simply a beginner, the wonderful waves around Surf Camp Lombok’s bay suit all competence levels.
Surf Camp Lombok’s house is constructed as a traditional Indonesian Borneo longhouse and is located right on the beach. Surf Camp Lombok started building the house in 2008 but always seem to find new projects, so it will probably never be fully finished. Surf Camp Lombok’s main source of material is bamboo since it has a high strength to weight ratio and reproduces extremely fast. All the bamboo Surf Camp Lombok used to build the camp has regrown many times over. The longhouse is designed to give a warm feeling of being home and spend time together with your friends.
Surf Camp Lombok’s guests stay in spacious rooms equipped with big beds, mosquito nets and fans. A water closet and a shower is connected to each room, which accommodates 4 guests. Surf Camp Lombok also has a room for 2 people which can be booked upon request.
This holiday will take place in Surf Camp Lombok, located in Gerupuk village, which looks out across Gerupuk Bay (sometimes spelt Grupuk Bay). The village is about 20 - 30 minutes from Kuta (Lombok), in the south of Lombok. Lombok is by itself a unique travel destination with its magnificent nature and varying topography. In size Lombok is almost the same as Bali, and has varied nature with a huge volcano, rice paddies and long sand beaches. A lot of people have heard of Lombok because of the Gilli islands which are a popular destination among backpackers for diving and partying.
The menu is usually vegetarian with fresh fish or sometimes chicken.
Surfing is always the top priority of Surf Camp Lombok, but they also go on small adventures by car or boat to explore new places together. This could be things like organic farm visits, short mountain treks, waterfall swimming, fishing, snorkeling, and cliff jumping or visiting local markets. They also offer a very prestigious game of football with the local team every camp, so bring good shoes to play. You can do a lot of trekking and diving around Lombok. Although there are plenty of activities offered, there is always the option to just relax in the tree house with a book, rip the skate bowl, watch documentaries or simply engage in interesting conversations.
By air: The flight from Bali is only 25 minutes and costs around 300,000 IDR (approximately 25 EUR), depending on the time of year. The most popular airlines are Garuda Indonesia and Lion/ Wings Air.
By ferry: Ferries leave Bali from Padang Bai harbor. Surf Camp Lombok recommends you arrange a package deal from a travel agent in Kuta (Bali). This will include a bus from Kuta to the harbor at Padang Bai, the ferry rides to Lembar harbor in Lombok, and a bus ride to Kuta (Lombok). The cost of a standard package from Kuta (Bali) to Kuta (Lombok) is about 300,00 IDR, and the journey will normally take about 10 hours. (Flying is definitely the quickest and easiest option uncles you are up for some adventure.)
Most taxi drivers know Surf Camp Lombok, but if yours does not, ask the driver to go through Kuta and past the Novotel. About 5 minutes later, after a short, steep hill you see signs to Gerupuk, directing you to turn right. About 15 minutes later, you will arrive in the fishing village of Gerupuk. You may be required to pay a small fee on entering the gate. Follow the road through the village for about 1 kilometer. When you have a white wall on your right and the beautiful bay on your left, you are almost there. You will find Surf Camp Lombok nestled between the hills, by the water, a big bamboo house with a skate bowl out the front. If in doubt, ask anyone in the street, everyone knows where Surf Camp Lombok is.
From Lombok International Airport (LOP), you can take a taxi to Gerupuk village. Surf Camp Lombok suggests you order a taxi at one of the service desks in the arrivals hall. The ride will take about 45 minutes and costs a maximum of 200,000 IDR (approximately 13 EUR).
