Sunshine Stories retreat is for anyone who’s interested in learning how to surf or yoga, especially if you have never tried neither. It is also for the more experienced surfer or yogi. Sunshine Stories think that surf and yoga is the perfect combination and that’s why they offer them both in their retreat. Every day consists of both surf coaching and yoga lesson and you can decide yourself if you want to join both, or skip a class to just relax for the day.
You will stay in a Dutch colonial style villa. It is newly renovated in a Geoffrey Bawa colonial style, with six bedrooms and big social areas built around a courtyard with a frangipani tree in the middle.
Sunshine stories believe in the yoga and surf combination. The yoga makes you aware of your bodies; you stretch and unwind as well as prepare the mind and set your intentions for the next surf. It is absolutely an incredible combination. Sunshine Stories focuses on the yoga as much as the surf, and provides a teacher led yoga classes twice per day with a schedule through the week to fit surfers as well as non-surfers. To surf is to play, you get to have fun and move your body at the same time, whereas the yoga is the classroom were you prepare yourself for the surf, you get grounded and in tune with your body.
Sunshine Stories is located in Ahangama, Sri Lanka. A typical Sri Lankan Buddhist beach village on the south coast. 20 minutes from Galle and 20 minutes from Mirissa.
Breakfast can be eggs, buffalo curd, fruit, bread, juices, Sri Lankan tea or good coffee. The coffee quality on Sri Lanka is unfortunately not as good as the tea, so coffee is flown in from Sweden and grinded fresh every morning. As for the tea, Sri Lanka makes the best tea in the world. For lunch you will be having the traditional Sri Lankan rice and curry. The chef starts to prepare the lunch in the morning by harvesting coconuts to make coconut milk, coconut sambal and from there it continues. Every day there is something new or something different on the table. The Sri Lankan rice and curry is packed with anti-inflammatory spices and herbs. For dinner you will be enjoying the gifts of the ocean making fresh tuna steaks, fish tacos or coriander shrimps! There is a selection of red and white wine in the villa for the wine lovers.
The international airport in Sri Lanka is Colombo (CMD). From Stockholm and Copenhagen, it is recommended to fly with Qatar Airways. With a quick stop in Doha you’re landing in Colombo, Sri Lanka 12 hours later.
