Program

You know your family best. The suitable age to undertake an activity will vary for each activity and with the skills, confidence, and experience of your child. You should note that Sobek Raftings' insurance covers children from seven years of age. Stoked Surf Bali thinks seven is about the right minimum age for most of the activities included here. If you wish to bring younger children, please feel free to contact them to discuss your itinerary and how they can best look after your children. Wherever possible, they require a minimum two-week notice to book your chosen activities.

They will be in contact with you once you book to ask you about your choices so they can arrange everything for you. If your booking is within two weeks, then rest assured and they will get things organized. The guide or driver is 100 percent yours and at your service. Some of your activities will be just you whilst some you will be joining other people who have also booked the same activity that day. If there are things you would like to change, please contact them before booking and they will personalize an itinerary to suit your requirements.

They believe a great holiday is not too over-organized and they do not want you to feel like you have to do anything. They will be as accommodating as possible. If you do not want to do something or want to spend more or less time somewhere, please discuss it with your guide. Also please remember people may be waiting for you, so if you decide not to participate in something, please advise your guide as soon as possible so that he or she can contact the appropriate people.

Sometimes, an activity provider will be forced to cancel an activity where the conditions are unsuitable or unsafe to proceed with the activity. For example, sometimes when river levels get too high, it becomes unsuitable to go rafting or canyoning If an activity is canceled, they will do their best to either re-program the activity (wherever possible) or offer an alternative activity but please remember that these situations are outside of their control and part of the risk of planning outdoor activities.

Daily itinerary

Day 1: Tuban or Kuta

Stay at Bintang Bali Resort in the Tuban or Kuta area. Beautiful gardens, a large beachfront swimming pool, and plenty of activities for the kids. You can experience surfing, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), catamaran, sea kayaking, hydrofoil, urban cycling, and wakeboarding at Cable Wake Park. Choose one activity for the morning and one for the afternoon. You may choose to have dinner at the hotel, otherwise, there are numerous restaurants to choose from within easy walking distance.

Day 2: Mount Batur - Lake Batur

At 7:30 a.m., depart Bali Bintang Hotel to arrive at Rafting start points by 9:30 a.m. Choose between rafting the easier Ayung River (grade two or three rapids) or the more challenging Telaga Waja River (grade three or four rapids). Both rivers take you through some of the most stunning scenery in Bali with towering waterfalls, high cliffs, and lush river valleys along with exhilarating rapids and some calming flat water sections. Please note that the lower number of grade, the easier the rapids. Both rivers have some exciting sections for those who have not rafted much (or at all).

If your children are 10 or under, Stoked Surf Bali recommends the Ayung River option. Lunch is included with your rafting. From 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., drive to Villa Jempana. As you come to the top of the caldera outer rim at Kintamani, you will be met by a view that you will never forget as you first look out over Mount Batur, Lake Batur, the lava flows, villages within the caldera, and towering mountains in the distance, including the mother of all Bali’s mountains, Mount Agung. The drive time is approximately one hour and 15 minutes. At 2:30 p.m., arrive at Villa Jempana.

Between 4:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., get ready for some excitement as you explore the trails and lower slopes of Mount Batur on an ATV or quad bike. They think this is by far the best location for quad biking in Bali. The minimum age to drive the ATV or quad bike is 15 so all under 15’s must ride tandem. When operated carefully, ATVs or quad bikes are safe, however, like any vehicle, they can be dangerous if operated carelessly or by those inexperienced operating machinery.

Therefore, if you have a family member over 15, it may still not be appropriate to self-drive if the person has little or no experience operating any type of vehicle. The operator, Balad, is experienced in operating these tours and has selected ATV or quad Bike routes and operating procedures with safety foremost in mind so please follow their instructions and you should have a great and safe time. You will have dinner at Villa Jempana (included).

Day 3: Munduk Valley

In the morning, you will hike Mount Batur Volcano within the Kintamani Caldera. With good reason, this is the most popular hike in Bali and can easily be done with a moderate level of fitness. If the skies are clear, you will have unforgettable views of the caldera, lava flows from eruptions back in the early 1960s, Lake Batur, and Bali’s biggest mountain, Mount Agung. You can choose to do the early sunrise hike (leaving at around 5:00 a.m.) or get up a little later and do the hike around 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.

If the sunrise is not important to you, then you can have the later hike as most of the other hikers have finished by then or are on their way back down the mountain. At 10:30 a.m. (approximately), have brunch at Villa Jempana after hiking and then at about 11:30 a.m., drive to Munduk (taking the scenic northern route through the mountains). At 2:30 a.m., arrive at Lesong Hotel. With its comfortable rooms, friendly staff, and peaceful ambiance, they are sure you will appreciate the tranquillity of a night at Lesong. Optional rice fields walk or local cycle on your own before sunset. You will have dinner at the Lesong Hotel (included).

Day 4: North Coast - Pemuteran

In the morning, choose between canyoning or one of the activities listed below. Canyoning Bali is a very professional, experienced, and safe operator that has selected the best river valleys in the Gitgit area of north Bali. If you are not clear what Canyoning is, it is the process of moving through the natural environment of a canyon using various methods including walking, rappelling (abseiling) jumping, swimming, scrambling, and sliding. It is great fun, sometimes a challenge, and puts you in close contact with your natural environment.

They highly recommend the canyoning experience, however, please see the note below and also be aware that there is a 45 USD per person extra charge for this option. Please note whilst Canyoning Bali (the operator) has taken children under 10, most children would need to be at least 10 years old and they would need to be very adventurous and unafraid of heights to be able to do this. Whilst the abseiling is not difficult, it requires confidence and the ability to descend cliffs up to 15 meters, sometimes whilst also being hit by water from a waterfall.

You know your family and its limitations the best, however, if you have young children and are interested in canyoning, please talk with them and they can jointly have a discussion with Canyoning Bali to come up with the best plan for your family needs. Canyoning Bali is a 50-minute drive from Lesong Hotel. If you do not want to do canyoning, then please choose between cycling and hiking in the Munduk Valley (operated by the Lesong Hotel). In the afternoon, drive to Pemuteran arriving by approximately 2:00 p.m.

The hotels are often chosen for their beautiful tropical gardens, open space, and beachside location. Taman Sari is another of these resorts with classic Balinese thatched roof accommodations, restaurants, and bars, they are sure you will love it. For the late afternoon, relax, swim, snorkel in front of the hotel, and enjoy a sunset drink. Also, remember that your driver or guide is there for you if there is something else in the area you want to do. Your accommodation is at Taman Sari Resort and dinner is at La Casa Kita Pemuteran (included).

Day 5: Pemuteran - Menjangan

In the morning, snorkel Menjangan Island, one of the best dive sites in Bali with spectacular reefs and lots of interesting marine life. A boat will transfer you to the island with all the necessary equipment and a dive guide. Simple lunch included. In the late afternoon, hike the unspoiled hills behind Pemuteran with stunning views of the west coast mountain range to the south and the Bali Sea to the north. This hike is approximately one hour return and is a great way to end the day before you settle into your sunset drinks back at Taman Sari Resort. You will have dinner in a hotel or a local restaurant.

Day 6: Pemuteran - Jatiluwih (UNESCO) World Heritage site

If you cannot get enough of snorkeling then they can arrange further snorkeling trips for the morning nearby, otherwise, you may like to do a brief snorkel in front of the hotel and choose another activity option for the morning: cycling, hiking, try scuba, or scuba dive for certified divers.

  • Hiking: West Bali Adventures will take you hiking in West Bali National Park, starting at 7:00 a.m. and the hike time is two and a half to three hours
  • Cycling: West Bali Adventures bike tour starts at 9:00 a.m. and takes about three and a half hours. The tour travels through local villages with a focus on agricultural tourism including salt lake from the lake, Arak (local clear liquor), peanuts, and coconuts.
  • Try scuba: Learn some scuba skills - try your first dive in a pool then do one open water dive in the ocean
  • Scuba (for certified divers): includes two local dives in the Pemuteran area

At 1:00 p.m., you will have lunch in Suma Restaurant. It is a traditional Javanese Joglo (wooden house) nestled into Sumberkima Hill behind Pemuteran. It is a great setting with lovely ocean views and the perfect way to finish your time on the north coast (included). Depart Pemuteran at 2:00 p.m. for Batu Karu Coffee Estate Jatiluwih. At 4:30 p.m., arrive at Batu Karu Coffee Estate and Retreat. You will have dinner at Batu Karu (included).

Day 7: Jatiluwih - Coast

After breakfast, experience the nearby Jatiluwih Terraced Rice Fields walk. With good reason, its spectacular well-preserved terraced rice fields are a UNESCO World Heritage site. There are several trail options available from one and a half to five and a half kilometers. Then if your family is feeling up to it, you finish with a 30-kilometer Mount Bike ride from Jatiluwih to Tabanan or a 50-kilometer option to Canggu. Both rides are gentle with little uphill riding and will take through small roads through rice paddies and local villages as you head back towards the busier tourist areas of south Bali.

  • Level of ride: intermediate

If you do not want Mount Bike ride, you can head back to the Kuta area via Sanur where your family can spend the afternoon at the beach sailing a Hobi Cat (catamaran) and sea kayaking or taking a kitesurfing lesson or surf lesson. Also included is exploring the Sanur foreshore by bike and lunch at one of the Sanur beachfront cafes. Your active family break will finish up in the Kuta area around 5:00 p.m. If Mount Bike riding, they could drop you anywhere from Canggu, Seminyak, Legian, Kuta, Nusa Dua, or Sanur as required (if outside these areas, you will need to discuss with them).
