This surf camp will take place at "Excellent Surf School" in Arugam Bay, Sri Lanka. The camp is located on the beach and that will give you easy access to the surfing spots. It is also less crowded, giving you a hassle-free time to learn to surf properly or enjoy the waves to the fullest. Along with sunrise surfing, sunset surfing is the most awesome experience.
Arugam Bay's Main Point is known for its sweeping (400 - 600 meters) right-hand point break; the headland is oriented perfectly to receive the South-South-East swell and holds best between 3 - 8 feet. As the wave is situated at the top of this headland, there is no protection from any crosswinds during the season. Recommended for intermediate to advanced surfers, this wave can get pretty gnarly on low tide and big swells; keep in mind the reef rolls over! This is the spot where Sri Lanka's only international surf competition is held. It's only a 5-minute walk from Hideaway.
Baby Point works from July onward and is technically the continuation of the wave from Main Point. As the wave folds around the headland, it runs into the bay, parallel to the beach. Once the beach has fully formed and all rock and reef have been covered up by sand, Baby Point is at its peak; between 2 - 4 feet. A great setup for beginners and longboarders - leisurely waves and sandy bottoms. A 2-minute walk from Hideaway.
Elephant Rock can be very technical when it’s working. The right-hand wave breaks just off the rocks and often sucks into a barrel. On the outside, however, the wave mellows out as it opens into the bay. Only a deep take-off presents any danger; otherwise mostly sandy and cruisy; between 2 - 6 feet.
This spot is another favorite for beginners and surf schools as a result of the sandy bar and the shallow waters from which to assist. More advanced surfers will certainly enjoy the deeper, more technical drop into this wave. Located 10 minutes away by tuk-tuk through farmland and jungle. Scenic; a sunset spot.
Waves are guaranteed all season long at Whiskey point because of its unique setup. The sweet spot just to the side of the rocks is an easy place to sit - one doesn't require much effort to get onto a wave when positioned correctly. The right-hand wave is not so technical and tends to be fat and slow; between 2 - 6 feet.
Great for learners and a preferred spot for surf lessons. Also, if you are just getting back into the water after a while and need to regain confidence. 20-minute tuk-tuk ride through farmland and villages.
There are two breaks here as a result of two headlands made up of rocks and carefully molded sand. They can loosely be referred to as Main Point and Baby Point of Peanut Farm - Main Point being a highly technical right-hand wave that requires negotiating a steep, fast take-off in front of rocks, often barreling between 3 - 6 feet.
Baby Point is technically the continuation of the earlier wave and is a little mellower at this point. Sandy bottom and a slower wave; between 2 - 4 feet.
If you are lucky enough to surf Peanut Farm on a day that both of these points connect, pack your bags and go home, it won’t get any better than this! All levels. Main Point is set up for more advanced surfers; Baby Point is a popular break for beginners. 15-minute tuk-tuk ride through farmland and jungle; scenic.
The very last (legal) surf spot on the east coast provides two options. The main (southern) wave is technical and wild as it is exposed entirely. A gradual rock off to the side creates a suction of water from which a steep, fast right-hand wave is created. The water stands tall and maintains its strength all the way to the sand, barreling occasionally; between 3 - 6 feet.
The orientation of large rocks to the north provides some protection from direct swell and creates a shallow, sandy bay where long, mellow waves form; between 2 - 4 feet. All levels. The main break should be approached with caution. 45-minute tuk-tuk through the jungle; scenic.
Sri Lanka is a great place to learn to dive with the PADI Open Water Diver course. The PADI Advanced Open Water Diver, PADI Enriched Air Diver, PADI Deep Diver, and PADI Wreck Diver courses are popular to dive into many of the sites and wrecks off the coastline of Sri Lanka. You can also become a PADI Divemaster or PADI Instructor from this island paradise.
This dive camp will take place at Trincomalee beach's diving center in Uppuveli, Sri Lanka. The camp is located near the beach which will give you easy access to the diving spots. It is also less crowded, giving you a hassle-free time to learn properly or enjoy the waves to the fullest. Just like sunrise diving, sunset snorkeling is the most awesome experience to do. This is also one of the best places to go dolphin watching during the whale season: April to October.
Sigiriya or Sinhagiri is an ancient rock fortress located in the northern Matale District near the town of Dambulla in the Central Province, Sri Lanka. The name refers to a site of historical and archaeological significance that is dominated by a massive column of rock nearly 200 meters high.
Wilpattu National Park is located 25 kilometers north of Puttalam or 30 kilometers west of Anurdhapura. The park that lies on the northwest coast spans the border between North Central Province and North Western Province of Sri Lanka. To the south of Wilpattu National Park is River Modergam Aru; to the north is River Kalay Oya.
Reaching Wilpattu National Park Colombo-Puttalam A3 highway leads to the city of Puttalama. 42 kilometers along the A12 Puttalama- Anuradhapura highway is a large sign board that reads Willpattu National Park. 7 kilometers along the road that turns to the left at the sign board takes you to the entrance of the park at Hunuwilagama.
On this camp, you will be served daily breakfast (included in the price). For the rest of the meals, you can have the best local food experience as well as Western and Sri Lankan foods in the local restaurants.
