  • Time for break/s if needed
  • Short wrap-up

Level 1 surfing lesson

Level 1 surfing lesson is designed for the complete beginner and for those who have tried surfing a few times but have not been able to catch a wave by themselves. You will learn surfing with the right techniques accompanied by friendly and experienced surfing instructors of The Surfer Arugam Bay. One instructor will guide a maximum of 2 persons. For first-timers, this shorter beginner's class is recommended, as surfing is a physically demanding sport and can be quite tiring!

Level 2 surfing lesson

Level 2 surfing lesson is designed for the surfers who can catch a wave in the white water but want to continue to progress their surfing and learn safety tips, tricks, how to go to the lineup, how to catch a green wave properly, and turn so they can improve from a beginner surfing level to an intermediate one.

Intermediate surf lessons

An innovative and unique coaching system for intermediate and advanced surf lessons is thought of as one of the best island-wide. Booking with Sri Lankan Tour Hub is a process where they get to know who you are, where you are in your surfing, and what you want from the course. That attention to your needs and the ability to really expand your surfing is what makes them so special. They have coached right up to top international competitors and have over 10 years of surf coaching experience at the intermediate and advanced levels of surfing.

Developing your surfing technique

Board selection and design service are unlike any other surf camp or school. Imagine having just the right board chosen by your own coach. A board that will really help you have more fun and advance in your surfing.

If you are just moving onto unbroken waves and your first good turns, or if you’re more advanced and you're already trying to perfect maneuvers, then their coaching will be perfect for you.

They explain techniques clearly and always give you the correct and positive feedback that’s needed. They know they can make a huge difference to your surfing and women’s intermediate and advanced surfing is progressing all the time and their coaching coaches reflect that too.

What you’ll learn.

You will cover at this level:

  • Perfecting take-off / pop up
  • Acceleration techniques
  • Core balance in maneuvers
  • Top to bottom turns
  • Paddle out techniques duck dive
  • Paddling technique
  • Cutbacks, off the lips, floaters
  • Wave formation
  • The history of surfing
  • Surfboard design
  • The rules of surfing
  • Tides and how they work
  • Fitness for surfing
  • Types of surf spots
  • Surf prediction

Advanced surf lessons

The advanced surf lessons are focused on helping surfers to have more fun by gaining more control and better flow and consistency to their riding in more challenging waves.

What will you learn in advanced surf lessons?

  • This course will help you improve your bottom turn and to learn top turns or cutbacks, how to duck dive, and how to take control of your speed. Progress from passively gliding down the wave to actively surfing it.
  • Learn how to generate speed, choose the right maneuvers to stay in the power pocket of the wave, and how to improve your paddling technique so you use less energy.
  • The instructors can also help with advanced takeoff techniques to minimize wipeouts, and help you acquire better wave-reading to avoid close-outs and get a better position in the line-up.

How do advanced surf lessons work?

  • The instructors will do a short assessment that will help to determine your surfing level, so they can tailor the right training programs with specific exercises for you.
  • Depending on your abilities and goals, they will help you focus on the right exercises and on choosing the right equipment. They’ll ensure you don’t limit your development through poor equipment choices, such as having too small a board or the wrong fin set-up, etc.
  • All surf instructors are skilled and professional, certified by the International Surfing Association (ISA).
  • Sri Lankan Tour Hub keeps the groups small, always working to a maximum of eight students per instructor, in keeping with the recommendation of the ISA.

Location

This surf camp will take place at "Excellent Surf School" in Arugam Bay, Sri Lanka. The camp is located on the beach and that will give you easy access to the surfing spots. It is also less crowded, giving you a hassle-free time to learn to surf properly or enjoy the waves to the fullest. As well as sunrise surfing, sunset surfing is the most awesome experience to do.

Main Point - Arugam Bay

Arugam Bay's Main Point is known for its sweeping (400 - 600 meters) right-hand point break; the headland is oriented perfectly to receive the South-South-East swell and holds best between 3 - 8 feet. As the wave is situated at the top of this headland, there is no protection from any crosswinds during the season. Recommended for intermediate to advanced surfers, this wave can get pretty gnarly on low tide and big swells; keep in mind the reef it rolls over! This is the spot where Sri Lanka's only international surf competition is held. It's only a 5-minute walk from Hideaway.

Baby Point

Baby Point works from July onward and is technically the continuation of the wave from Main Point. As the wave folds around the headland, it runs into the bay, parallel to the beach. Once the beach has fully formed and all rock and reef have been covered up by sand, Baby Point is at its peak; between 2 - 4 feet. A great setup for beginners and longboarders - leisurely waves and sandy bottoms. A 2-minute walk from Hideaway.

Elephant Rock

Elephant Rock can be very technical when it’s working. The right-hand wave breaks just off the rocks and often sucks into a barrel. On the outside, however, the wave mellows out as it opens into the bay. Only a deep take-off presents any danger; otherwise mostly sandy and cruisy; between 2 - 6 feet.

This spot is another favorite for beginners and surf schools as a result of the sandy bar and the shallow waters from which to assist. More advanced surfers will certainly enjoy the deeper, more technical drop into this wave. Located 10 minutes away by tuk-tuk through farmland and jungle. Scenic; a sunset spot.

Whiskey Point

Waves are guaranteed all season long at Whiskey point because of its unique setup. The sweet spot just to the side of the rocks is an easy place to sit - one doesn't require much effort to get onto a wave when positioned correctly. The right-hand wave is not so technical and tends to be fat and slow; between 2 - 6 feet.

Great for learners and a preferred spot for surf lessons. Also, if you are just getting back into the water after a while and need to regain confidence. 20-minute tuk-tuk ride through farmland and villages.

Peanut Farm

There are two breaks here as a result of two headlands made up of rocks and carefully molded sand. They can loosely be referred to as Main Point and Baby Point of Peanut Farm - Main Point being a highly technical right-hand wave that requires negotiating a steep, fast take-off in front of rocks, often barreling between 3 - 6 feet.

Baby Point is technically the continuation of the earlier wave and is a little mellower at this point. Sandy bottom and a slower wave; between 2 - 4 feet.

If you are lucky enough to surf Peanut Farm on a day that both of these points connect, pack your bags and go home, it won’t get any better than this! All levels. Main Point is set up for more advanced surfers; Baby Point is a popular break for beginners. 15-minute tuk-tuk ride through farmland and jungle; scenic.

Okanda Surf Point

The very last (legal) surf spot on the east coast provides two options. The main (southern) wave is technical and wild as it is exposed entirely. A gradual rock off to the side creates a suction of water from which a steep, fast right-hand wave is created. The water stands tall and maintains its strength all the way to the sand, barreling occasionally; between 3 - 6 feet.

The orientation of large rocks to the north provides some protection from direct swell and creates a shallow, sandy bay where long, mellow waves form; between 2 - 4 feet. All levels. The main break should be approached with caution. 45-minute tuk-tuk through the jungle; scenic.

Trincomalee

Sri Lanka is a great place to learn to dive with the PADI Open Water Diver course. The PADI Advanced Open Water Diver, PADI Enriched Air Diver, PADI Deep Diver, and PADI Wreck Diver courses are popular to dive into many of the sites and wrecks off the coastline of Sri Lanka. You can also become a PADI Divemaster or PADI Instructor from this island paradise.

This dive camp will take place at Trincomalee beach's diving center in Uppuveli, Sri Lanka. The camp is located near the beach which will give you easy access to the diving spots. It is also less crowded, giving you a hassle-free time to learn properly or enjoy the waves to the fullest. As well as the sunrise dive, the sunset snorkeling is the most awesome experience to do. This is also one of the best places to go dolphin watching during the whale season: April to October.
