This 5-day adventure holiday offers you the unique opportunity of experiencing Slovenia’s breathtaking locations on a SUP board by combining this awesome outdoor activity with sightseeing. You’ll be able to discover the magic of the most idyllic glacial lakes of the Alpine world, soak up the sights and sounds of vibrant Ljubljana, traverse down the emerald queen of rivers, venture to the Mediterranean region with all its coastal charms, and enter a spectacular karst cave that is sure to blow your mind.
You will stay in various accommodation during the tour. All of the accommodations will include breakfast and they will be adjusted to your preference to be the most suitable for the holiday.
Discovering Ljubljana by stand-up paddling through its vibrant center will give you a one-of-a-kind perspective of the city’s landmarks, including the Ljubljana Castle, the Triple Bridge and Dragon Bridge as well the many other wonderful architectural designs along the colourful banks of the green Ljubljanica River. After your first taste of SUP paddling and a lunch break, you’ll mount your bikes and explore the rest of Ljubljana, stopping off in the great Tivoli Park for some slacklining. Then it’s up to Ljubljana Castle for some views and back in time for dinner and night time merry-making.
The next stop is the spellbinding Lake Bohinj, Slovenia’s biggest natural lake. Embellished by majestic Alpine backdrops, this gem of a lake is bang in the middle of Triglav National Park. You’ll stand-up paddle along the most striking part of the lakes’ shore and practice your paddling techniques. After your SUP session, it’s time for a healthy snack to recharge your batteries and get ready for an hour-long hike through the forest up to the 60-meter Savica Waterfall and its smaller cousin a bit further on. Then it’s a quick drive to Bled, your new home for a couple of nights.
Waking up next to Slovenia’s most iconic lake, it’s breakfast time, and then off to do some SUP yoga, before paddling on the lake and getting inspired by the incredible surrounding and the medieval cliff-perched castle. SUP games are in order, as is a refreshing dip in the lake and a visit to the legendary Bled Island where you’ll ring the wishing bell for luck. In the afternoon it’s time to explore Bled, its lovely castle, and admire the phenomenal panorama it offers. After lunch, the splendid Vintgar Gorge awaits, before retiring for well-deserved rest.
Early in the morning, you head off toward the Upper Soča Valley, one of the most scenic parts of Slovenia and stop off at the pretty Most na Soči village. You’ll SUP under an impressive bridge, then follow the railway along the narrow valley of the Idrijca River. Your next destination is the sunlit Mediterranean coastal part of Slovenia. Goriška Brda is known for its endless vineyards, olives, and fragrant orchids. You’ll spend the night at a traditional homestead, take a walk among the vineyards and visit a local wine cellar. Tasty culinary treats with high-class wines will end the day nicely.
The last day is dedicated to supping along high cliffs towards the cutest Slovenian seaside town of Piran. You’ll explore the quaint Venetian-style streets, have a lovely lunch, and then SUP back.
The afternoon can be spent relaxing at the beach or you can opt for a trip up to Postojna Cave, one of the insanely beautiful symbols of Slovenia’s natural world.
The holiday is suitable for people who can swim and are in reasonable physical shape. The tours are not demanding and you need no prior experiences with stand-up paddleboarding. Children are also most welcome to join. Those over 12 years old can join on their own board, while younger kids can sit on their parent’s SUP board, providing they already have experience in stand-up paddling.
Slovenia Activities try to provide the best possible experience on your holidays, so they use very stable Red Paddle Co boards, perfect for beginners or travelers with little experience.
Slovenia Activities will gladly take you stand-up paddle boarding in sunny or cloudy (dry) weather, but cannot in the event of heavy rain, windy weather, or strong river currents. If the weather forecast looks rainy, they will try to reschedule the SUP holiday to another date or another location.
