The Maldives is located in the Indian Ocean, about 500 kilometers from the southern tip of both India and Sri Lanka. It is the ideal exotic tropical island paradise. The Maldives comprises of more than 1190 islands grouped into atolls protected by surrounding coral reefs which attract various species of marine life. Coconut palms and tropical plants grow in abundance on most islands. The Maldives straddles the equator and has a tropical climate.
The southwest monsoon brings the most of the rain, mostly around June and July. Normally, the skies are clear during the northeast monsoon. As of the early 1970’s, tourism has burgeoned in the Maldives. Surfers, divers, beach buffs, game fisherman, and the sea lovers find the Maldives ideal. The Maldives is increasingly becoming accessible, especially by air. Scheduled and charter flights operate on a regular basis from points of origin in Europe, the Middle-East, and Asia. Visitors are issued thirty-day tourist visa on arrival.
Blue Bowls is a favorite surf point in the Maldives, not only because it’s a long and smooth righthander, but also because of the opportunity to meet the local population of Vaadhoo island and spend time in the local village, one of the great advantages to having amazing waves in a truly unique location.
Also known as Voodoos, Blue Bowls is unusually protected from onshore winds due to being tucked away inside the pass between Castaways and Five Islands. More of a point style wave, this protected peak wraps smoothly around the point before opening up into a series of bowls. The sections repeatedly bowl up into wide and open faces leading to a nice long ride, fit for shortboard shredders, but mellow enough for funboards and longboards.
The protected setting from the wind makes Blue Bowls almost always surfable, especially since it handles all stages of the tide really well. Blue Bowls ranges between three to eight feet but is particularly ideal at four to six feet, with a westerly wind during a southeast or southwest swell. This is definitely the place to head towards if unsure about everywhere else. Since Blue Bowls is located on the reef of Vaadhoo island where Serene Blue Bowls Inn is located, it is easily accessible to all guests at any time at no extra costs.
Depending on the price package you chose, during the camp, you will be served with daily breakfast or with full board meals, which consist mainly of local cuisine rich in fish. There will be also teas or coffees during the meals. Enjoy one exclusive Maldivian dinner and barbecues party that Serene Blue Bowls Inn often throws at the camp. Should you have any dietary requests, Serene Blue Bowls Inn will try to make arrangements as much as possible.
