Program

Safari Surf Adventures' goal is to accelerate your learning curve across the spectrum of the surf lifestyle to become a confident and skillful surfer. This, in combination with complementary surf stretching and surf fitness, will offer you unrivaled progression and improvement and loads of film footage of yourself.

Your Safari Surf Adventures surf coaching program will be led by the experienced and passionate local team. They will guide you to level appropriate waves and employ the unique SSA training curriculum in and out of the water. A key component of SSA's teaching philosophy is video and photo reviews, helping to track your progress and giving you focussed goals to work on throughout the program.

All progress tracking, photos, and videos taken of you are yours to take home at the end of your SSA adventure, giving you a great reference for continued progression whenever and wherever you surf.

Safari Surf Adventures' Goal

In all locations, SSA supports local projects which help alleviate the problem of marine little and marine plastics. On every surf adventure with SSA, you will have the opportunity to learn more and get involved with their sustainability vision.

Program

SSA's unique surf trip program focuses on the following principles for success:

  • Location

Relatively remote equals less crowding and more wave opportunities for you. You need consistent wave repetition.

  • Waves

Pointbreak-type of waves are essential to actually feel, read, and surf a wave correctly. Being able to slow things down on a long drawn out wave will, in itself, open a trove of knowledge which will translate into a higher level of surf performance for you.

  • Physical

Educating you in the proper yoga/surf stretching before and after you surf to improve overall flexibility and strength which in turn helps progress your surfing.

  • Mental

For most intermediate level surfers, the major roadblock to advancing your skill is in your head. Blending breath work, learning how to control your breath in uncomfortable situations, building a core mental approach to situations in the surf that once had you handcuffed will unleash your potential, not only in surfing but also in all stress type situations in life.

  • Visual

There is no substitute for video analysis to help you understand your shortcomings and progress your surfing. SSA has invested in the best (and most expensive) video analysis software in the industry. Having a coach walk you through your video clips is priceless when it comes to advancing your surf skill.

  • X Factor

The best watermen and women, trained surf coaches with you every step of the way, in the water and on land. Providing instant “live” feedback is essential in expediting and developing your confidence and your development.

  • Surprise

SSA has teamed up with many current and former pro surfers who endorse the program. Don’t be surprised if a pro surfer pops in on your camp to be a guest coach providing you invaluable feedback on your surfing and hang with you for the event!

Location

Safari Surf Adventures' Panama location is in the small surf town called Playa Venao. Located in the Azuero Peninsula in the Los Santos Province, “Venao”, as the locals call it, is a true hidden treasure. The beach is set in a picturesque horseshoe-shaped bay. Being a true tropical paradise, the air temperature ranges between 28 to 30 degrees Celsius (82 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit) year-round.

The water temperatures range in the 28 degrees Celsius (82 degrees Fahrenheit) around June and are at their lowest in February, in the ranges of 24 to 28 degrees Celsius (75 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit). Year-round warm ocean temperatures mean that a rash vest and board shorts should be fine for surfing at any time of year.

Sometimes in December through January months, the morning winds can kick up an upwelling and add a chill to the water temperature. Some locals wear full wetsuits, so a vest or spring suit is not out of the ordinary for dawn patrol surf sessions this time of year as the water can dip into the 21 degrees Celsius (70 degrees Fahrenheit) range.

Playa Venao is a relatively newfound location that only just started being developed by some surfers in 2006. Prior to that, there was no way to get to the location by car, only horseback. So with that said, the town is small but very surf oriented with some great bars and restaurants to hang out in and mingle with the local people.

The Waves

The surf break is a sandbar break with excellent lefts and rights on offer. Best swells typically come from April through October, with November through March being a bit smaller surf in general. There are also a couple of point breaks to the North, the location that offers up really fun long point waves.
