We booked in advance to stay for a week but ended up staying until our flight to Sri Lanka, too bad it took off, as did everyone else we met at the camp.
The staff is awesome! Any request is answered with "no problem, why not" and a smile. The location is a 10 minute walk from the town which is great if you want to be in the middel of it all or if you like some peace and quiet, you can chill on the camp's private beach, play snooker, or try your luck on the slack line. Don't hesitate, just book!
My sister and I stayed in a camp just for one week this month. The main aim, and actually my desired dream, was learning to surf as much as possible even in such a short period of time. Safa Surf Camp turned to be an ideal place for this plan. We were surfing twice a day meeting the sunrise and sunset on the waves. I cannot remember a more breathtaking experience than I ever had! We were lucky to have the first lesson with Fawas, who is a brilliant instructor and helped me to be on a wave from the first day. We had encouraging and sometimes very funny surf sessions with him, Rashid and Ali every day. What's more, we had necessary video classes, where we could watch our morning surfing in slow motion, discuss it, find mistakes and make a personal golden rule for the next session. All guys were not just teachers, they also spent lots of time with us as if they were leaders in a children's camp. We had a great, funny, and productive time there for sure! And of course, my thanks to Hubaith for the amazing videos and Sukki for nice breakfast! Hope to see everyone in the camp again!
I called Fawas up the day I was about to arrive and he set my wife and I up with a room and myself with a surf lesson and board. After our first lesson, he suggested that what I needed most was practice and arranged vehicles and board for the next several days. He gave me one more theory lesson and video review. I have taken surf lessons in Bali, China, and California and this was by far the most I have ever learned. Fawas breaks it down very practically and makes it easy to focus on one thing at a time to improve. The way he times the lessons, which is very early in the morning, and the locations he chooses, guarantee lots of waves and a really awesome Sri Lankan surf experience. He clearly set up his camp because he loves and cares about surfing and sharing it with the world. While the accommodations are fairly simple, they are more than adequate and it is awesome to be so close to the beach in such a quiet space with so much space. The food is great and the rest of his team is friendly and welcoming. Fawas is also passionate about sharing his knowledge of his home country and can arrange tours around the area if you are interested in a safari, checking out the mangroves, or local cultural sites.
