During this camp, you will stay in a standard cabana (single or double occupancies). Ruuk Village offers three individual cabanas built to represent the simple lifestyle of a fisherman family. Spending your holidays in these cabanas will give you an authentic experience of how it is to live in a typical Sri-Lankan fisherman's house with your own open-air shower and a shared WC block.

Each cabana offers its own private terrace or sitting area with a hammock and own private open-air shower experience and can be occupied as a double or shared or single. These cabanas are spread over the coconut plantation allowing you enough space and tranquility. These cabanas are perfect for travelers searching for an authentic experience of 'art of Sri-Lankan' living. Most of the villagers still live in houses that are built with natural resources from around their living areas.

You will have a unique experience with the local team. Since Kalpitiya is not a crowded place with all the modern-day 'bad living habits', you will be able to:

  • Disconnect

Ruuk Village takes extra care to reduce their ecological footprint. They avoid green-washing. They not only talk about sustainability but they practice sustainable living.

Ruchira Fernando

Ruuk Village is located around 2 kilometers on the opposite side of the lagoon. They need to take their own boat to cross the lagoon to the kite surfing area. The beach hut is on the north part of the lagoon where it's not crowded like the south part. In these packages, the transfer to the kiting beach is included.

The kite center at the kiting beach to rest and chill in between kiting sessions is situated on the 75 meters stretches of a sandbank. The sandbank separates the Indian ocean from the lagoon.

A true off-the-grid accommodation away from the mass tourism

Sometimes you find yourself on a holiday only to reluctantly and unexpectedly be booked into a hotel or resort that is heavily crammed with other tourists. This in-turn puts you in a position where the staff is overwhelmed and unable to attend to your personal needs on time.

For all those who are in search of a place that is not packed with 50 other guests, Ruuk Village can offer you exactly what you are looking for. Ruuk Village is a compact and chilled out destination that offers an authentic Sri Lankan vibe right by the main kiting lagoon.

The ocean is just beyond the lagoon making Ruuk Village convenient for everything that Kalpitiya is famous for. They take pleasure in providing comfort and have ensured that all their cabanas are equipped with private hammocks and cozy sitting areas.

For added privacy, all nine cabanas are spaciously spread out across the premises. Each cabana stands on its own, offering you the extended privacy and flexibility to enjoy your holidays looking over the garden towards the lagoon. Their team takes pride in caring for the surrounding garden filled with love and passion, making it a truly enjoyable experience.

Simplicity is the new luxury

Their motto is simplicity. They demonstrate this to the local community by being an example for others to follow. They are mindful of their carbon footprint and strongly believe that having the opportunity to be a part of this beautiful tropical island, they themselves want to experience it in its raw and natural element and share this incredible atmosphere with their guests.

They intentionally have strayed away from air-conditioners because the warmth of the sun along with the consistent breeze from the sea has never harmed anyone.

They are lucky enough to have this all year round and only hope to give you a taste of paradise for your short holiday. They can never understand why others would build a swimming pool right by the beach. The running waters of the lagoon and the consistent waves of the sea fulfill the real definition of an infinity pool.

Hence, they have proudly decided to keep it this way without disrupting the endless beauty of Kalpitiya picturesque outdoors and to preserve the sweet water resources of Kalpitiya.

You will be served full board meals included in the price every day including tropical fruits, Sri Lankan rice and curry for lunch, special dinners, and tea or coffee and drinking water. Ayurvedic-oriented meals or vegetarian meals are possible.

Lunch can be served at the beach hut at no extra cost. This allows you to kite all day long when all others have left for lunch (included in full board). You are encouraged to take lunch since there is no cafes / restaurants infrastructure at the kiting beach.

Sri Lankan cuisine

Articulated as the 12 food dishes you should try in Sri Lanka, CNN travel elaborately depicted some of the savory dishes that are available across the entire island. Sri Lankan cuisine and its authentic flavors have derived from centuries of experience with spices and herbs which have been passed on from generation to generation.

At Ruuk Village, they are sincerely dedicated to the tradition and beyond, as they share their mouthwatering dishes with their guests. Authenticity does not drive from just the name of the dish or the type, but from the way it is carefully prepared. The method of cooking in clay pots on top of an open fire conceals the spices and flavors in a natural way enabling each pinch of spice and herbs to enter the main dish, only to burst out from within and produce extraordinary flavors instantly as it enters your mouth.

Prepared with secret recipes that include lots of love, the local 'queens of Kalpitiya’s kitchens' who have fed more than one generation present these impeccable dishes for you, highlighting the reasons why their guests keep coming back for more. Their homemade recipes that are prepared exclusively at Ruuk Village leave a lasting memory that stands out above the sun, wind, and beautiful beaches. It is not every day you get to enjoy grandmother’s cooking while on holiday.

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Arrival by shuttle

From Colombo to Kalpiya, Ruuk Village can arrange a hassle-free pickup organized with their trusted drivers. The distance from Colombo-International Airport to Ruuk Village is 144 kilometers. People always say the distance on this island is measured in time rather than the kilometers one needs to drive. There are two ways to get to Kalpitiya. The most comfortable method after a long flight is to get yourself picked up. The other is to take public transport, which is economical but after a long flight could be too much ( if you ask).

Airport pickup with our very unique Volkswagen surf bully

  • With air condition - 95 EUR
  • Without air condition - 80 EUR

Airport pickup with our trusted local drivers.

  • Either a Japanese car or a mini van - 69 EUR

It's better to get yourself picked up by a driver who knows where to drive you to. In case you take a taxi from the airport, the driver would only know to reach Kalpitiya, but then you will have to help him to find his way around. Kalpitiya is a 44-kilometet stretch of land (peninsula).

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 40% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid on arrival.
