The guests will be transferred from the airport to Hacienda La Jimenita for the first and last night of the trip. Jimenita is a deluxe facility conveniently located near the international airport. While in Mompiche, guests will be hosted at Casa Surf - a custom-built concrete and bamboo beach house right on the water.

Ecuador’s coast offers outstanding surfing and adventure opportunities but few luxury services. ROAM, in conjunction with local surf legend Sol Funk, has built the ultimate surf house right on the beach in Mompiche. Each room has gorgeous beach views, a large balcony, and en suite facilities. The best beach break in the area is outside your door and the accommodation is situated one mile down the beach from Mompiche’s famous left-hand point.
Mompiche is a sleepy fishing village turned surf Mecca but still offers a raw and authentic adventure in one of Ecuador’s most spectacular coastlines. Your local host, Sol, will treat participants to the best surfing, great organic and whole food meals, local seafood, and a host of other experiences beyond the surf.

What to expect on the Ecuador surf safari
Roam Adventures prides itself on running a relaxed and flexible schedule. Every trip is different depending upon the group, other trips in the area, and sometimes the weather. The following is a sample of what your trip might be like.
Day 1: Arrival in Quito
Today, you will arrive in Quito and take a taxi to your hotel. Here, you will rendezvous with the rest of the group and get prepared for the morning transfer to Mompiche via the beautiful village of Mindo.
Day 2: Quito to Mompiche
Your driver will pick you up after breakfast and take you on a scenic drive to Mompiche. You will stop for lunch along the way and visit the town of Mindo. As you approach the coast, you will quickly adjust to the tropical climate of the tiny fishing village of Mompiche. The town is still primarily a fishing village but is slowly becoming recognized for Ecuador’s best lefthand point break. Tonight, you will have a welcome dinner and prepare for tomorrow’s surf sessions. Overnight will be at Casa Surf.
Day 3 - 6
A typical day will start with tropical fruit, rich coffee, and a healthy breakfast before heading to the water. Massage and yoga classes are available as well (at an additional cost). Long stretches of white sand and warm waters are an added attraction to one of the world’s best places to learn surfing. In addition to miles of beach break, there are four distinct sessions at the point with the latter three being over sand. Predictable waves up to four meters are easily accessed. Beginners will revel in the opportunity to ride long waves on a gentle beach while more advanced surfers will be able to catch massive rides for up to 400 meters. Overnight at Casa Surf.
Day 7
After a morning session in Mompiche, it’s on the road for a two-hour drive to Esmeraldas and flights back to Quito. Overnight will be at Hacienda La Jimenita.
Day 8
Breakfast and transfer to the airport or onwards for your next adventure in Ecuador.
Location
Ecuador’s prime surf season is from December to April during the season of NW swells that are generated by winter storms in the North Pacific Ocean. Winds during this time of year are predominantly glassy to offshore along most of the coast resulting in often good to epic conditions. During this season Ecuador is a world-class surfing destination and one of the most consistent places to score tropical waves during the Northern Hemisphere winter.
Food
Your host, Sol Funk, is also Mompiche's most sought-after restauranteur. Owner of "La Ruta" Sol makes the best fish tacos in South America. A local surf legend, Sol is understated and super chill but once you taste his tacos, you'll see that he can back up that statement. Local fruits, seafood, and meat are all part of the menu and Sol's cooking will certainly be a highlight of your experience.
