Ripar Surf School is combining surf and yoga since 2003. Surf and yoga are two disciplines which complement each other. Yoga can: intensify the experience in surfing and the relation with the ocean, take the participant in total harmony, clear and focus your mind, relax your body, find your balance, and stretch out your muscles. Yoga will calm you down when you are stressed and help strengthen your focus. These are things that you want to be doing while you are surfing and in your daily life.
The surf courses are given normally from Monday to Friday. You will surf twice a day, and each surf session last approximately 2 hours. So, if you spend your days behind the desk, don't forget to practice some sports before your surfing holidays.
The surf spot and class schedule choice are made according with the surf instructor's experience by considering safety, sea and weather conditions, participants skills (and sure, variety), splitting groups, determining whenever it seems convenient, and sending them to different spots that best match the skills of the corresponding group.
Depending on the conditions and on the level of the students, the lessons can take place at different surf spots within a range of 20 kilometers from the surf school (15 minutes by car). In this case you will be away for the lesson for a total of 5-6 hours.
It all starts at the surf school base, 2 minutes walking from the beach. There you find a dressing and chill out area, with shower. At the surf lessons, the ratio used is one surf instructor and one surf assistant for a group of 8 participants.
Ripar Surf School offers surf lessons based on the participant’s skill of surfing. There are three levels of courses, which are beginner, intermediate, and advance. If you have done some surfing before, but are not sure which one is the right course level for you, just choose a beginner’s course and on the first day your instructor will evaluate your surfing skill.
To join Ripar Surf School’s advanced surfing lessons, you need to feel comfortable on the water, know the priority rules, be able to catch unbroken waves on your own and turn.
Here, the class will focus on:
We start to visit Pena Palace and Gardens, one of the major expressions of 19th-century romanticism in the world. We don't just drop you off inside of one palace. We'll go inside with you, and make sure you see most of this historical pearl.
We will then drive down to the unique Sintra village, a UNESCO world heritage site since 1995. After lunch, (not included; you may choose a full meal for 10 EUR or a snack on the go for 5 EUR), you will have some free time to visit this village full of Muslim influences. We invite you to taste the famous travesseiros (pillows), which are light puff pastries that are turned, rolled and folded seven times, and then filled with delicious almond-and-egg-yolk cream and lightly dusted with sugar.
Still in Sintra, on the way to the ocean, we will explore Quinta da Regaleira, and discover probably the most mysterious gardens and constructions in Europe. An open book, made of stone, about the owner's view of the human essence and cosmos. Time to exit this magic village, and head down to Cascais. We will stop in Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of Continental Europe, and contemplate its breathtaking landscapes. Visit the charming Cascais, once the home for kings-in-exile and a site of espionage during World War II. On the way home, we will drive through the Lisbon Riviera, the first touristic promenade in the early 60's.
Ripar Surf Camp is located in the best surf coast of Europe, which stretches from Peniche to Ericeira, in the center of Portugal. The beach village offers amazing conditions for learning or for advanced surfing. If the waves are not good on the beach, Ripar Surf School’s van will take you to other surf spots all within a maximum of 10 minutes’ drive.
Praia da Areia Branca is located 65 kilometers distance from Lisbon. It still holds its natural beauty and has not been affected by mass tourism. It has something magical that is difficult to describe by words. You can easily fall in love for this small paradise. Everything necessary for a perfect holiday and you can walk everywhere!
You will be served delicious breakfast every morning and daily Vegetarian Dinner. You are invited to participate in Ripar weekly sunset dinner party and all Surf Houses activities.
Praia da Areia Branca is a small beach village but it has everything you may need. Supermarkets, local market with fresh fish and fruits, restaurants, bars, snack-bars, ATM machines, and places to chill including the famous Barraca Bar in a very close range. So, you can walk everywhere! Just next to the surf base, you can also find Backdoor Surf Shop where you can shop for some surfing equipment.
Ripar Surf School offers a special massage therapy which helps alleviate physical exhaustion, tensions and other minor conditions that the surf students may experience after an intensive surf session. The objective of the therapy is to restore the flexibility of the joints by loosening minor muscle contractions and correcting mechanical imbalances caused by the unusual exercise. This treatment is available on request with extra cost. The cost for 45 minutes of Shiatsu with a therapist, Inês Oliveira, is 35 EUR (full body).
