The North Island is where the major cities are - the capital Wellington and Auckland - ‘the city of sails’. It’s mainly volcanic in origin with lots of seismic features such as geysers and hot springs. The country has a landmass a little larger than the UK with a population of some four million. With 10 sheep to every person it's no surprise their major export is lamb! Despite the huge number of visitors travelling there every year, it’s never crowded.
