Portugal On Water aims to be more than a surf camp. After you stay with them you will be a part of their 'family'. The surf camp works seven days a week and arrival is accepted on any day. Depending on the waves conditions and on your surf level, every day they will try to combine lessons and free surf sessions that can go from one hour to two hours each, so you can learn and practice.

Portugal On Water Surf Lodge offers surf lessons based on the participant’s skills. They have three customized programs: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. If you have surfed before and you are not sure which level you fit in, they will make an evaluation of your surfing skills and they will adjust your program.

You will be always assisted by a qualified surf instructor that will pick you up every morning from your accommodation and take you to the best waves in the area.

Beginners program

• A short history of surfing
• Basic techniques on the white water (first waves)
• First approach to surfing unbroken waves
• How to go to the line-up and handle with the white water
• How to position yourself on the board, how to paddle, sit, and turn
• Introduction to ocean tides, currents, and waves
• Introduction to surf equipment
• Take off (standing up on your board) practice on the sand
• Take off practice on the white water
• The local region geography: how to find the best spots
• Turning on the white water

Intermediate program

• Approach to advanced surfing techniques
• First session as an evaluation of your surfing skill and establish the best way to improve
• Front-side and back-side surfing
• How to choose the best surf equipment according to your level
• Improving your paddling and some beginner techniques
• Maneuvers: trimming (how to get speed)
• Practicing paddling into the wave
• Priority rules
• Shape, size, and direction of the wave
• Take-off on unbroken waves and turning
• Understand the correct position in the line-up to surf unbroken waves

Advanced program

To join Quinta d’Anta Surf School’s advanced surfing lessons, you need to feel comfortable on the water, know the priority rules, be able to catch unbroken waves on your own and turn.

• Ability to catch and ride unbroken waves
• Advanced maneuvers: tube riding, cut back, off the lip, and floater
• Choose the best schedules and surf spots in order to practice advanced techniques with less crowd on the water
• Ocean knowledge
• Practice the classic surfing line: trimming, bottom turn, top turn
• Surf equipment knowledge

Sample schedule

• 08:30 - 10:30 Breakfast available at Quinta d'Anta
• 10:30 - 13:00 Free time: enjoy the pool, go to the beach, try a bike a tour
• 13:00 - 15:00 Lunch time
• 15:00 - 15:30 Meet at Quinta d'Anta
• 16:00 - 17:30 Surf class
• 18:00 - 18:30 Return to Quinta d'Anta Surf Lodge
• Note: security on surf classes always depend on sea and weather conditions, for this reason the surf coach team are free to change any schedule

The Surf Lodge is located in Maiorca (Figueira da Foz) close to the best surf coast of Europe. It is a great surf destination that works all year round and for all levels. It’s kind of a secret paradise of surf in Portugal because there are not so many crowds and the surf spots still hold its natural beauty away from mass tourism.

If in the main surf spot, Cabedelo Beach, the surf conditions aren’t the best, they are many breaks to explore and the team can take you to another spot close by, such as Buarcos, Murtinheira, Poço da Cruz, Barra or Costa Nova. If you’ve never surfed here, you've been missing out a memorable holiday, so come and you will easily fall in love with this little paradise.

Just chill and have fun at the hotel

If in any day you don’t feel like surfing, you can just chill and have fun at the Hotel. If you wanna take some time off from the busy days, you can book a massage or just stay in the swimming pool, it’s an amazing place. Otherwise, they have plenty of activities at the hotel that you can explore like stand up paddleboarding, padel tennis, and free use of mountain bike with GPS tracking and pool table. If the weather is good don’t forget to ask for a delicious and fun barbecue that you can’t miss!

Jump to the city

If you miss people, want a night out or just want to know better the Portuguese city culture, they have three amazing cities around them where you can easily travel:

Figueira da Foz (15 minutes away)

It is known as one of the most beautiful beaches in the country. Figueira da Foz is also one best places to get seafood and fresh fish in Portugal. You can check the glamorous Casino in the city center, walk around on the seaside street or hiking on the mountain.

Coimbra (35 minutes away)

Coimbra is an old university town that is a part of UNESCO World Heritage since 2013. It’s a beautiful city where you can learn a lot about the history of Portugal. You can go to Quinta das Lágrimas and don’t forget to ask about the famous and tragic love story about the beautiful Inês.

Aveiro (45 minutes away)

It’s not Venice but it has its own charm. Aveiro is a city that is crossed by a river channel where you can book a trip on a colorful beautiful boat. Don’t miss the conventual pastry Ovos Moles that you will never forget!

• A reservation requires a deposit of 20% of the total price.
