Surfing is an experience that is more than a fashionable sport. Learning how to surf requires perseverance and time. The ultimate goal is that after the paddling, you stand up from a lying position on your board and drive down the wave. Under the guidance of a qualified surf instructor, you’ll receive proper instruction and direction, which give you quick success when surfing.

Pura Vida works only with qualified specialists who are both lifeguards and surf instructors. All their instructors are ISA (International Surfing Association) certified. They make themselves fully available during the week for both beginner and advanced surfers.

During the theory sessions, you get an explanation of the material, maritime safety, and basic techniques. After that, you go under their supervision and in small groups to experience your first surfing experience on the waves of the Atlantic Ocean. Once you catch your first wave, you will see and feel that surfing is more than a concept, it’s a way of life!

Guests at the Pura Vida Surf Lodge get a six hours course (one hour per day). During class, you use a soft-top (soft surfboard), but after class, you can start practicing on Pura Vida's other boards with different lengths. The whole week, you can make free use of the surfboards, wetsuits, bodyboards, and skimboards. All lodge guests have a beach cruiser with board rack, so you can go surfing on the spot you want.

Mimizan

The region Les Landes is known for its vast pine forests and kilometers of golden beaches. Mimizan is a seaside town nestled into the luscious green landscape of the Landes Forest of Gascogne. Silvercoast, an ocean coast with silver reflections, as observed by the poet Maurice Martin, at the beginning of the century.

Mimizan Bourg centralizes the majority of commercial, industrial, cultural, sports, and administrative activities of the town. This part of the town is symbolized by its bell-tower, the only surviving relic of Saint Marie Priory, a stopover on the route to Saint Jacques de Compostelle.

Mimizan sprawls the south-west bank of the lake, at the edge of which tourist accommodation has been constructed, structures for water-activities, open-air activities, nine hole golf course ratified by the French Golf Federation, and Woolsack Castle a Tudor type hunting house built for the Duke of Westminster in the 1910, which welcomed famous characters such as Winston Churchill, Coco Chanel, and Salvador Dali, among others.

Surfing in Mimizan

Mimizan is a leading, very sociable surfing spot in the Southwest of France. You’ll find an international mix of surf dudes and surf chicks. Mimizan guarantees the perfect surfing holiday to remember. With the immense Atlantic Ocean at your doorstep, Europe’s most beautiful waves always roll in here. Because the waves break on sandbars just offshore, it’s excellent for novice surfers as the perfect place to learn how to catch your first wave. For the experienced surfer, there is more than enough to do in the high rear.

Nightlife of Mimizan

In the evening, Mimizan is alive with action; a beautiful boulevard with many cozy bars and great nightclubs where you can rock until the small hours. Pura Vida Lodge's favorite bar, 'Pura Vida', is the place where you can go for after surf. Here, you can not only party, but also relax and watch surf movies.

"The pura vida lodge is a very beautiful and relaxed place that makes your holiday an incredible experience. The garden really is a paradise and the lodge is situated near the surf beach so you can easily check out the waves by bike and grab a board if the conditions are good. The people are very friendly and I've spent some awesome days in Mimizan. I hope I can go back there one day!"

"I've been there a few years ago and it was a really special place. The staff always available to help you in anything. The place is quite comfortable and well equipped to became a surfer beginner in a few days. I didn't attend to classes, but I went some days to take a look and the instructors were so nice and committed to teach. There also you can access to a bike at anytime and approach in the beach in five minutes or visit many places around to be in contact with the nature. Breakfast are the best. I highly recommend this place."

"I can highly recommend Pura Vida Lodge. I'd had an amazing week in September. The accommodation is well reached and away from the bustle (but still short distance walk to the 'center'), which makes it a quiet and relaxing place to stay. There is an amazing and spacious garden with comfortable seats, swimming pool, bar and campfire place where the whole lodge comes together at night to sit, drink and talk. Breakfast and dinner is made fresh every day by the lovely staff. You get your own wetsuit, beach cruiser (bicycle) with surf rack and can choose a board that fits your level. So you can always surf, also before and after lessons. There are longboards (skate) and also supping and yoga is possible. The whole concept makes it more than worth visiting again. I will be back this year!"

"Lovely place, chill atmosphere, very nice people! Staff is very friendly and helpful. Close to the beach, which you'll reach with some cool bikes. I joined the 30 plus group, very good concept! You can do whatever you want; alone, with the group, on the beach, in the city, and at the lodge."
