The only thing Pura Vida has in common with a hostel is the dorm style, which are mixed sex. Apart from that, it's cleaner, cosier, modern, light and versatile.
Hugo takes such an incredible pride in both the accommodation and its surroundings. He is the most caring, kind and welcoming host you have ever met. He goes well beyond providing 'just an accommodation' to recommending places to eat, inviting visitors to local events and assisting with anything with a big smile and endless patience. He keeps the place spotless and in perfect working order, adding many homely touches such as scented candles, blankets, basic toiletries.
I came to Pura Vida on my own to try surfing, in September 2016, by bus from Lisbon. The journey takes 1.5hr and is super comfortable and the ticket very cheap.
There are endless beaches and a local shop but apart from that, this is a place to relax not to party and explore. Also worth noting that the sea is very cold.
