Cris has been the yoga guru for Pura Vida Adventures for over a decade. Born in Brazil, this globetrotting goddess fell in love with yoga at a very young age, becoming a devout practitioner of Hatha and Bhakti yoga at only 18. She studied full time at the Swasthya Yoga School in Brazil and attended a variety of workshops there that deepened her passion for yoga. Now with decades of experience, Cris has taught, practiced, and studied yoga all over the world (from Chile to India to England to Guatemala). But it is the beauty and peace of Costa Rica that makes her call Santa Teresa home.
Pura Vida Adventures' retreats are situated in the scenic village of Santa Teresa on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. Expansive beaches and tropical rainforests surround Santa Teresa, creating fascinating landscapes, stunning views, and unforgettable sunsets.
When you arrive in Santa Teresa, you will know that you have discovered an extraordinary place. The gorgeous beaches are uncrowded, the ocean is warm, the locals are friendly, and there are monkeys swinging from the trees. You can find secret waterfalls with warm water pools surrounded by jungle canopy, and surf spots with no one there.
Pura Vida Adventures intends to make your experience special by serving you a taste of the local food and culture. Many of the meals are enjoyed at the hotel's beachfront, gourmet restaurant "Shambala". Costa Rican Chef Randy Siles, who was featured in Sabores magazine, has brought his creativity and international flair to Pura Vida Adventures' scenic beach town to share with you his unique mix of organic vegetarian and high quality local meat and fish dishes. Plentiful organic salads accompany each meal and devilish desserts to satisfy your sweet-tooth craving. Chef Siles uses the freshest organic ingredients to create a variety of gourmet dishes for vegetarians, vegans, and meat lovers alike.
After morning yoga, the breakfast buffet consists of a variety of fresh tropical fruits, Costa Rican specialties and other vacation favorites. Fresh gourmet Costa Rican coffee is served, as well as an assortment of teas and juices. Lunch is a rewarding experience after a great surf session. Chef Siles goes all out with his homemade delectable like pescado envuelto, palak paneer, tuna takaki, fiesta fajitas, or healthy salads with tropical fruit, fresh catch of the day or grilled chicken breast.
On several afternoons and evenings, you will explore some of the best restaurants in town, which serve light and delicious meals like fresh lobster, Argentinean fire-roasted chicken, or Peruvian fish tacos. Relax in the shade on the beach and enjoy brick-oven fired pizza while you watch the surf, or lounge at Marys Restaurant while sipping a locals favorite Mojito and savoring a seared ahi tuna filet over jasmine rice and fresh "farm to table" greens. With so many delicious choices, you will be glad Pura Vida Adventures is taking you to all the right places.
Other than surfing and yoga, there are plenty to do in Costa Rica. The local fishing village where the hotel gets its fresh fish offers boating tours in the waters of Cabo Blanco, the first registered State Park in Costa Rica. Hiking the trails of Cabo Blanco or zip-lining through the jungle canopy is a great way to see the local flora, fauna and the beautiful coastline of the area. Be sure to look in the trees where several types of monkeys can be spotted. Salsa is the most popular form of dance and Pura Vida Adventures can arrange for group lessons should you wish to move your hips to this lively cultural dance.
The following activities may be offered depending on scheduling, surf conditions and guest preferences:
