Standard rooms

Standard rooms at Hotel Santa Catalina will comfortably accommodate up to four guests. For groups of four, please ask Panalive Tours for the prices. The rooms include air conditioning, ceiling fan, en-suite private bathroom with hot water and blow dryer, closet with a secured key-locker feature, refrigerator, satellite TV, free Wi-Fi internet, and outside terrace with hammocks, chairs, and table. The standard rooms include either four single (twin) size beds, or one king-size bed with two single (twin) size beds.

Junior suite

Hotel Santa Catalina's suite rooms are for one up to three guests and have one king-size bed and one single bed, or the option of three single beds. All suites include complete kitchenette including coffeemaker, microwave, electric stove, sink, pot / pan, dishes, glasses, utensils, etc. The suite amenities are safe (safety box), private bathroom with hot water and blow drier, 32-inch satellite TV, air conditioning, and ceiling fan, coffee table with two chairs, terrace with hammocks, table and chairs.

Program

Santa Catalina offers a wide variety of waves for all levels of surfing and you will stay like the pros in a hotel with swimming pool. The surfing classes are made in several languages by experienced surfers and trainers. They also have a yoga studio for those who want to practice. In one of the free afternoons, you will go by boat to enjoy a beautiful white sand beach located on a small island in front of the hotel.

Surfing

The staff is very experienced and can teach you surfing in the best fashion. The daily surfing lessons are complemented with yoga. Panalive Tours has several types of boards to find what better fits you. The Panalive staff is multilingual. The lessons are two hours daily in the morning. Panalive Tours always picks the best place on the beach. Santa Catalina is perfect to learn surfing because it has many options around that can suit all levels of surfing, from beginners to advanced. After the classes, you can practice by yourself in the afternoon because the hotel includes the use of surfboards.

Diving

Coiba National Park is a protected part of Panama because it is an UNESCO world heritage site. You will catch a fast boat from Santa Catalina with professional guidance of one of the best Diving operators in Panama. You will have two tanks to make two dives in different spots of the park, there are 38 islands and reefs to explore. Coiba is one of the best diving in the world because of its variety of species, some are endemic and some are seasonal like the whales ,hammer sharks ,giant manta rays sea horses and many more. Dolphins (bottlenose and pilot) and reef sharks are guaranteed to watch. This archipelago is part of a chain of archipelagos that starts in Costa Rica in Islas Coco , followed by Coiba ,Islas Pajarita (Colombia) and Galapagos islands. Yoga

The yoga teachings are for beginners and they are based on 84 asanas of Hatha yoga and they are made at the hotel's yoga studio. To be a good surfer, you must have your body trained, strong and flexible, your muscles prepared for hard paddling and balancing, and your mind clear and free from any stress. The hiking tour, which takes about one hour, is made on a hill beside the village that has an incredible view of the sunset and surroundings. For advanced yoga practice you have to meet Ian in his studio in town

Instructors

Miguel Martins
He is from Faro, Portugal and 46 years old. His hometown is located in a very touristic area of southern Portugal named Algarve. It's very famous for its incredible beaches and golf resorts. Since he had graduated, he started working with tourism because, in this region, it is the main activity. He did university based on tourism and took several courses about how to create touristic products. For most of his life, he worked for an airline but he also had jobs in all the touristic operation, like a car rental, hotels, surf camps, boat tours, eco-tours, monument guiding, golf, and etc.
Keoni Salgado
His father is the owner of Surfers Paradise Hostel, so Keoni grew up in front of the big waves of Santa Catalina's main break. All his family is dedicated to surfing. Also, he has spent many years teaching surfing in Catalina.
Nataly Alvarez
Nataly is from Venezuela, probably the best female surfer in Panama. She moved to santa catalina a long time ago to surf big waves. She is very experienced in the ocean as well as teaching how to surf.
IAN
Ian is from the USA and has lots of experience teaching yoga. He is one of the best teachers in Panama.

Location

Santa Catalina is located on the Chiriquí Gulf in the state of Veraguas, Panama. It is a fishing village which offers a smattering of surf camps, low-cost hotels, and a few eating establishments. Still fairly secluded, the closest town with ATM, grocery, and other basic services is Soná which is about an hour away. Your surfing sessions are complemented with very good nearby spots.

Literally a tropical paradise, Santa Catalina offers some of the best surfs in Panama. The closest access point is Isla Coiba with its world-class diving, great local dives and fishing, and quiet charm for relaxing. How to get there

Driving directions from Panama City

  • Go to Santiago de Veraguas which takes four hours.
  • Then, go south to Sona which takes one hour.
  • One kilometer before Sona, turn left to Santa Catalina.
  • After driving for 35 kilometers, turn left in El Tigre.
  • After 15 kilometers, you are in Santa Catalina.
  • Once there, follow the signs for Hotel Santa Catalina on the way to the beach of Estero.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Tocumen International Airport (PTY). Transfer from and to this airport is available upon request.
