Oporto Surf Camp is a warm, friendly, and cosy place where you can relax, enjoy lively parties, and make friends with guests from all over the world. The passionate team is always here to help and loves to show you our beautiful empty beaches, uncrowded surf spots, and stunning waves to catch. The camp is situated in the traditional fishing village of Esmoriz, surrounded by natural parks, lakes, forests, and pristine sandy beaches dotted with numerous surf spots. This makes it perfect for exploring beautiful landscapes by bicycle or on foot. The charming city of Porto is just a 20-minute train ride from Esmoriz train station. With Porto so close by, your holiday can be a perfect mix of surfing, nature/ beach enjoyment, cultural experiences, and nightlife.
Oporto Surf Camp offers accommodation in our surf house with single or double beds, as well as shared rooms. They would love to welcome you soon at Oporto Surf Camp and give you the ultimate holiday feeling. Let the ocean plan your day and go with the flow of the waves. Enjoy the pure joy of surfing.
The surf Camp house is only a 3-minute walk from the beach. Perfect for a quick surf session at our home beach, beautiful sunsets or to go for a drink at the beach bars.
Outside is a big lounge area to hang out and relax, complete with an outside bar, BBQ area, beach volleyball field, tanning area, yoga/ relaxing corner. It’s also possible to rent a tennis court.
Close to the surf house are plenty of restaurants serving typical Portuguese dishes (great seafood!), delicious bakeries where you'll want to pass by every day, and traditional grocery shops with typical products from the region. And all for friendly prices.
Within walking distance, you’ll find some beach bars, pubs, clubs, and of course, the team doesn’t mind organizing some nice parties at the surf camp as well.
The surf camp offers other activities as well. On Saturday we make a Porto tour. You can choose a wake surfing experience at the Douro River, yoga lessons at the camp, go wall climbing, free bike rental/tours or visit the skate park in the forest of Ovar (the skates are free to use).
You don’t need to walk or drive far to surf amazing waves. Esmoriz is surrounded by many different uncrowded surf spots
All the surf spots are beach breaks with nice white sandy beaches. We have spots for all levels, from mellow waves to tube rides.
The beaches are divided by jetties. Therefore, you always have protection from the wind. It’s perfect for beginners to learn as well as for intermediate and advanced surfers to set their surfing to a new level.
Portugal’s North-West coast has a consistent swell all year round. This in combination with many uncrowded and untouched spots makes this the perfect place to surf!
The school offers surf lessons for all ages. It provides lessons for beginners as well as for the more experienced surfers and advanced surfers. Their passion is to help you improve your surfing skills and knowledge of the ocean and to show you its lifestyle.
All of the instructors have the required credentials (achieved by the Portuguese Surf Federation and the ASI) and wide knowledge and experience in surfing on the educational level as well as in competing. With over 20 years of experience, the instructors will advise, help, and teach you according to your needs and level and keep safety high.
After breakfast, the team will pack the surf mobiles and look for the best surf spot of the day. Sometimes it’s your home beach and you can walk there but the team also likes to show guests other surf spots so you get to see more of the surroundings, learn how to read the waves and learn to decide if it’s good for you to surf.
Surfing is not just a sport, it’s more than that, before you realize you also learn a lot about nature, about low and high tides, wave periods, currents, and wind conditions.
Before you know it’s the ocean that will start planning your day.
When everyone is tired after the first session, the team likes to take everyone for lunch to typical lunch restaurants where you can have a complete meal with drinks for around 10/15 EUR.
After lunch, a little siesta, and then you check the waves again for the ones that still have power in their arms.
To finish the day we like to watch our beautiful sunsets with a drink, and if we are in the right mode we will hit the dance floor.
I went on holiday to Oporto Surf Camp for the first time when I was 15 years old, together with my family. It completely made me fall in love with surfing and with the surf camp. Pedro created something very special and unique here. Oporto Surf Camp is a place where you don't just come for a holiday, but a place where you become a part of the family. On top of that, you spend hours in the ocean and have unforgettable parties. Trust me, you will not find this experience very soon at any other surf camp. Now I'm living my dream, working here as a surf instructor!
Pedro started surfing about 30 years ago in the North of Portugal. His parents always took him and his brother on holiday to Peniche where he saw people surfing for the first time and he got very curious. It’s now 9 years ago that he started Oporto Surf Camp. After working many years as a surf teacher and helping organizing surf championships in Portugal, he wanted to show and share the great uncrowded waves in the North of Portugal with others. When you give surf lessons it’s great to see the happiness of the guests when they catch their first waves.
At first, Jan came to Oporto Surf Camp as a guest through mutual friends of the camp. During his stay, he fell in love with the vibes, the ocean and surfing. The small crowds, friendliest locals, good food, cheap beers, and fisherman’s parties... No wonder he stayed around after his first visit. Now, Jan is very excited to spread the hype as a surf teacher this summer.
João is a local who grew up in Esmoriz, spending most of his time in the ocean. He started with bodyboarding as a kid, then switched to surfing as an adult and never looked back. João was a lifeguard for seven years at most of our surf spots and is still a member of the Sea Rescue Team of Esmoriz, so you can rest assured about your safety. João also took a gap year to travel the world, discovering a passion for exploring and meeting new people. This led him to join Oporto Surf Camp, where he combines his love for surfing and travel, doing what he loves, where he loves, with the people we love.
In Northern Portugal, Esmoriz welcomes you with open arms, offering a peaceful getaway from the busy tourist spots down south. This cosy fishing village is known for its beautiful beaches hugged by Natural Park's lush forests and natural lakes, making it great to surf or explore beautiful landscapes and breathtaking sunsets.
Esmoriz is a haven of local charm, where cute cafés, family-owned restaurants, and bakeries famous for their delicious treats cater to everyone. You can enjoy fresh seafood, tasty 'Frango Piri Piri' chicken, and more, all without breaking the bank, because things are still cheap here.
You can find everything you need for your holidays in a 5-minute walk (ATM, pharmacy, laundry, supermarket, shops, restaurants, bars, beach bars, cafes, bakeries, etc…)
