Wake up every day and experience a yoga practice that will open you to more vitality, freedom, and fuller self expression. Prepare for an out of the box experience both on and off the mat. Each day will be a new adventure that will lead you to play on your own inner journey. Then arrive at a place that will create space for something new in your life upon returning home.
During this retreat, you will stay at Buena Vista Surf Club, a secluded jungle eco-lodge overlooking the surf at Playa Maderas.
When you check in, you will immediately feel at home as you fall into a cozy couch, lounge in a hammock, or snuggle up with one of the resident pups. Owners, Marc and Marielle, have an eye for detail from their innovative design of this eco-friendly property to their international family-style meals that are prepared each day.
Buena Vista will inspire you to unplug, slow down, and enjoy the simple life. The main house is perched up on a hill with a large yoga deck overlooking Playa Maderas providing the perfect place to view sunsets and star gazing. The six tree houses (cabanas) are surrounded by a lush forest, and are thoughtfully designed to complement the natural environment both inside and out.
Just a short five minute walk down a rather large hill will take you right to pristine beaches. You can also go to San Juan del Sur if you want to visit cafes and shops on a free afternoon.
The lodge consists of six freestanding wooden cabanas set in between the trees. Each cabana has a view into the jungle, plus its own private bathroom, ceiling fan, mosquito net, comfortable box-spring beds, and can be prepared for single, double, or triple occupancy. The lodge's low energy system does not provide hot water for showers but most visitors find the water refreshing in the hot climate anyway.
All cabanas are located in such a way that you can enjoy your privacy. At night, you will fall asleep to the sounds of the trees and the distant waves breaking on the beach. With the morning sun, the calls of birds and howler monkeys will welcome you to a new day.
This five night retreat with Firefly owner, MaryRose Donaghy will take you on a journey into the Baptiste methodology, through asana, meditation, and daily inquiry. Wake up for your morning yoga practice on the deck that overlooks the Pacific Ocean. After breakfast, walk down the big hill to Playa Maderas, a small surf village, to surf with the locals at their perfect secret spot. Afterwards, relax in a hammock and get a taste of the local foods as you sip fresh coconut water right from the source.
In the afternoon, swing from the trees on a canopy zip line tour. In the evening, take a trip to San Juan Del Sur, the vibrant beach town to shop, eat, and play. At night, be called to sleep by the sounds of the howler monkeys and the distant hypnotic ocean waves.
In addition to the yoga classes and the canopy zip line tour, there will also be one surf lesson to spark your sense of adventure. You will have the access to unlimited use of surf boards to keep you connected to that inner spark and the rhythm of the ocean.
There are two sites near San Juan Del Sur offering a fun morning or afternoon of zip lining through the jungle treetops. You can combine that with rappelling to double the adrenaline kick, by descending through the trees suspended from a wire.
This retreat will be held in Playa Maderas, eight kilometers north of San Juan Del Sur in Nicaragua. Nicaragua is still a hidden gem of Central America. It is a special place that holds a tender balance between relaxation and adventure all while being in nature.
During this retreat, you will served two daily meals including breakfast and dinner. The lodge's kitchen creates all kinds of delicious dishes and cater to (almost) all dietary restrictions. Just let nOMad always at OM know when you make reservations and they will take it into account while planning the menu.
For breakfast, you will be served a great tropical spread with fresh fruit salad, yogurt and granola, pancakes, eggs, and more. At night, there is always a home-cooked gourmet dinner prepared with locally grown produce and fresh meat or catch of the day. Their family style meals enable you to get to know other guests, share travel stories, and make new friends.
Furthermore, the self-service bar (honor system) is stocked with local beer, rum, and other chilled refreshments. Enjoy free refills for your water bottle with the organically filtered well water.
In addition to that, you will also have one farewell dinner out to San Juan del Sur included in the package.
You can go fishing by boat along the coast either for the half or full day package (prices on request). Please inform the lodge about the desired level of fishing (recreational or experienced). Weather, currents, and other factors can effect the feasibility of fishing trips. It is advisable to reserve the boat ahead of time.
The first frisbee golf course in Nicaragua is only a 10 to 15 minutes walk from the lodge. It costs approximately two USD per day to play as many rounds as you like. No experience required.
Gallop or trot along the beautiful Playa Maderas with a local guide who will pick you up at the lodge and take you for a ride across the sand and the trails behind. Rancho Chilamate, situated 20 minutes south of San Juan del Sur, also offers guided horseback riding tours. It is a half day tour including lunch. They will provide boots, a hat, and even jeans if you forgot to bring them.
The lodge can arrange a relaxing and fun afternoon sailing on a catamaran along the pacific coast of Nicaragua, anchoring at a beautiful secluded beach where you can swim and snorkel. The trip includes drinks and snacks, and if you are lucky, you could see dolphins, turtles, and whales, and maybe catch some fresh fish. Nothing beats watching the sunset with a cocktail in your hand and the wind in your hair.
Located 18 kilometers south of San Juan del Sur, La Flor Wildlife Refuge is a spectacular deserted pacific beach where the Paslama (Olive Ridley) and Tora (Leatherback) turtles arrive by the thousands to lay their eggs. Between July and January each year, you can witness this unique event and the lodge can arrange a nocturnal turtle tour for you. Various factors influence the presence of turtles, so please check with them upon arrival.
The conditions of the roads in Nicaragua can be poor (especially in the rainy season) and you will need a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle to get up to the lodge.
If you go there with your own vehicle, please make sure you arrive before 18:00, since it is harder to find the lodge in the dark.
Please note that almost all rental car companies will not allow you to cross the border with the rental car. You might have to change cars at the border. Please check with your rental company in advance.
Please book your flight to arrive at Augusto C. Sandino International Airport (MGA). Transfer from and to the airport is included. nOMad always at OM will pick you up from the airport.
From Augusto C. Sandino International Airport (MGA), take a taxi to Mercado Roberto Huembes bus station for long distance routes. From there, take the bus to San Juan del Sur. In a regular bus, it will take you approximately three to four hours to San Juan Del Sur.
In San Juan del Sur, you can either take the beach shuttle at Casa Oro or a 4WD taxi. The shuttle will drop you off at Playa Maderas, a five minute walk from the lodge (not recommended with suitcases or trolleys). Alternatively, the lodge can arrange a 4WD taxi for you from San Juan del Sur, which will bring you straight to the lodge.
Alternatively, from Costa Rica, the easiest and most comfortable way is to take the Ticabus or Transnicabus. These are air conditioned buses with an on-board toilet, and coming from Costa Rica, you will not have to switch buses at the border. Once you have entered Nicaragua (after immigration), just get off at “La Virgen” (let the bus driver know you want to get off here). This is approximately 20 minutes after leaving the border. From La Virgen, you can take a taxi or local bus to San Juan del Sur.
The cheaper alternative is to take a normal bus to the border (Peñas Blancas). After crossing the border, take a bus on the Nicaraguan side (one which goes in the direction of Rivas) and get off at “La Virgen”. At the junction of “La Virgen”, either catch the bus from Rivas heading to San Juan del Sur or take a shared taxi.
A slightly more expensive option, but way easier, is to take a taxi direct from the border to San Juan Del Sur or Playa Maderas. Please let nOMad always at OM know if you want them to organize a 4WD taxi from the border (approximately 40 USD), which you will need for the final couple of hills at Playa Maderas.
They can also organize a taxi from Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR). Please inquire for details.
