Ngor Island Surfcamp has been running surf trips in Senegal for 20 years. We want to distinguish ourselves as the leading surf operator in the region. We have a commitment to constantly improve and upgrade everything we offer to our guests, including meals, sleep quality, transport comfort and of course, surf guiding. Our slogan is "Serious about surfing, Awesome in accommodation".
Surf access and Transport
The surfcamp has 2 waves out-front, including the iconic 'Ngor Right', the most consistent wave in West Africa. Guests can surf these waves on their own time, and avoid crowds by easily being first in the water at dawn. When the swell hits other spots around Dakar, we have three 4x4 vehicles and one private speedboat ready to take you to the best waves of the day. Our surf guides, and photographer, are hand-picked and trained in-house to help provide the best possible surf trip experience. During road trip season, which are included in your stay, we take guests to remote surf spots outside Dakar, both north and south of the country.
You will be accommodated at NGor Island Surf Camp. The camp offers a chill-out area with a pool, outside showers, and sunbeds - a perfect place to chill after a long day surfing. Being located in one of the highest properties on the island, there are sea views from everywhere in the house, perhaps the most spectacular being the 360-degree view of all the waves surrounding NGor from the roof terrace.
From here, you can also see the stunning sunset over the Atlantic Ocean at the most western point of Africa. Both single and double rooms have comfortable beds, mosquito nets, and private bathrooms with hot water from the solar system heated by the African sun. Enjoy a stunning sea view from where your breakfast and dinner are served each day. All the camp employees strive to make your stay as pleasant and enjoyable as possible.
Your bedroom is cleaned by a maid every day and they also have a laundry service available. Being situated on an island, they do not have main electricity available, but they do have a solar system with full lighting, fans, plug sockets in each room for charging mobile phones, wireless internet, solar heated water, and showers, providing all comfort needed. In addition to this, they collect plastic for recycling and they have their own compost at the camp.
The camp offers you a pleasant, relaxing environment, perfect to chill after a long day of surfing. Daily surf lessons with the best instructors in Senegal are in store, among other things. During the surf camp, you will have a 90-minute surf lesson per day with the best surf instructors in Senegal.
Every day one of the local surf guides will take you to the best of 21 spots according to the conditions and your ability. Located on the most Western point of Africa, the nearby mainland peninsular attracts swell from the North, West, and South, offering potentially Africa's largest and most consistent swell window.
The waves here are consistent all year round, almost twice as consistent as in France and Morocco in summer. And, despite nearly half a century of surfing in Senegal, there has never been a shark attack on a surfer.
NGor Island Surf Camp always does its best to make sure that its guests are in the best place at the right time. Checking up on local swell forecasts and, most importantly, watching the spots at first light. If the conditions are good, the camp bell will be ringing, then off for a sunrise session before breakfast. There is always a cup of coffee and some fruit to grab before going out the door.
The boatman, Bai Dam, lives in the camp and will take you to the mainland or to the spot by boat with a guide. At 10:00 a.m., when you have finished your breakfast, NGor Island Surf Camp gets a fresh updated swell report from the different spots. They send their guests to different spots with a guide, depending on their level. Then surf's up all day.
Alassane, the minivan driver, is waiting on the mainland if that is where you find the best spots of the day. Bai Dam is on standby all day, ready to take you to the spots around NGor Island.
NGor Island's surf guiding is all about trying to help their guests explore the best waves that only local knowledge can provide. As there are huge swell windows and changing wind directions, conditions are always changing. The guides are there to help their guests with finding entrance and exit points at various spots, tides, waves, and wind options and to make sure that you will have the most suitable conditions according to your level. Since 2006, NGor Island Surf Camp has been exploring the north and south coast of Senegal. When wind and swell conditions are right, they arrange road trips with their van or four-by-four.
Ngor Island Surf Camp has an impressive selection of surfboards from 1st tier brands in all dimensions and shapes. Visitors must leave a deposit in the form of a passport or driver's license. Let Ngor Island Surf Camp know if you are interested in renting a surf board.
The surf camp will take place at NGor Island Surf Camp, in Ngor Island, Senegal, located just 50 meters away from the most consistent waves in West Africa, overlooking the spot from the house. NGor appears as the first wave surfed in the Endless Summer movie. Although being a consistent and powerful reef break, it is only a short walk from the calm and sandy beach in the bay of Ngor.
The island is very peaceful and relaxed. The boat bringing you across the water is a pirogue (traditional fishing boat). As soon as you step off the boat, you will feel the exotic atmosphere. Walking around the island you can find small galleries offering art and music. On the bay side, you will find quiet, white sandy beaches where you can swim, relax, or eat lunch. At the local beachside restaurants, they serve different fish, gambas, or lobster. There are also two small grocery shops selling drinks, snacks, and anything else you may need.
On the side facing the Atlantic Ocean, the coast is pounded by the almost constant swell. The solid rock foundation is creating optimal conditions for surfing. The nightlife on the island is very calm and quiet. At the camp, they organize some barbecues with music and there is always a place to have a drink on the beach. You can also take a boat to the mainland (Dakar) which is only five minutes away, where you will find exciting discos and bars in the best Senegal style.
During your stay, you will be provided with daily breakfast and dinner, as well as drinking water. Breakfast is from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. every day. Dinner is from 8:00 p.m. They also offer a choice of Senegalese vegan or vegetarian food. Please let NGor Island Surf Camp know upon arrival about your requirements and if you suffer from any allergies.
They offer a wide range of tasty food for breakfast (exotic West African fruit and jam, seasonal fruit of Senegal, cheese, butter, honey, and much more). There is also coffee and tea available.
NGor Island Surf Camp takes pride in celebrating and encouraging people to discover the traditional food of Senegal and West Africa, which is extremely delicious. The food is completely fresh as the cook goes to the local market every morning to buy ingredients for the evening meal. The fish used is caught by the local fishermen on the island, therefore it is fresh, local, and sustainable. In addition to the local fish soup, fataya, or homemade moringa goat cheese, Mame also occasionally prepares delicious muffins for you to enjoy at the camp.
