Accommodation

Nasu Surf Bungalows is the perfect land based surf camp for anyone looking for world-class waves, comfortable accommodation, and quality food for a reasonable price. The bungalows are located at Nasu's own private beach, set right in the heart of West Sumbawa's world-renowned surf breaks. With a left and right break straight out the front and the boat on standby ready to take you to the surrounding breaks, finding the wave of the day is easy.

Nasu Surf Bungalows is totally off the grid and use solar power and pure natural spring water. It is nestled in a valley with majestic mountains to the back and the Indian Ocean at your front door, which means apart from the occasional visiting Indonesian fishing boat. It is extremely rare to see anyone else apart from your travel companions on the beach.

Program

Once you rise in the morning, make your way into the restaurant where coffee, tea, and all you can eat breakfast is waiting for you. Over breakfast, you can watch the right and left breaks out the front and discuss the best surfing options for the day ahead.

Nasu’s left and right waves both need a high tide to make it really turn on, so, if it is not working or you would just like to surf one of the many other world class waves in the area, Nasu Surf Bungalows will pack the boat and head out for the day. Some of the waves close by are Phantoms, Little Bingin, Scar Reef, Donuts, Playgrounds, Supersucks, Yo-yos, and Tropicals along with a bunch of other secret spots.

While you hunt for the best waves, you will notice West Sumbawa’s amazing coastline where the mountains touch the sea. This awesome coastline means other traveling surfers with a car or motorbike can find it very time consuming traveling over the mountains just to check each spot to eventually find a break with a 20-minute paddle out, not the case in the boat with an easy 40-minute ride to the southern bay named Tropicals and the closest (Scar reef) less than 10 minutes from Nasu. Nasu Surf Bungalows will drop you straight into the lineup.

The boat is an Indonesian style sampan and seats up to 10 people. With open walls and a roof for sun protection, it is the perfect boat for photography. If you are after high-quality photos of your trip, a professional local photographer with the latest camera gear can be arranged to come along and shoot every wave of your trip.

If you are feeling burned out while surfing, paddle back to the boat for a snack and drink, reapply sunscreen, and get back out there. There is no time schedule when staying with Nasu Surf Bungalows. They go at your pace, surf where you want, and serve meals when you are hungry.

The waves

You can surf Supersucks, Scar reef, Yoyos, Donuts, Nasu, and many more. March to September is generally considered the “surf season” in West Sumbawa. With offshore winds and blue skies almost every day, it is not uncommon to score weeks on end of perfect waves. Many people tend to think that the wet season (October to February) does not provide any waves, however, this is not true. With fewer people around and Nasu Surf Bungalows' knowledge of the area's waves, it is very possible to be rewarded with uncrowded perfection during these months.

Location

This surf camp is held in Sumbawa, Indonesia. When you wake up in the morning at Nasu, the first thing you notice is the silence, broken only by jungle sounds like monkeys and birds and crashing waves.

There is no motorbikes, trucks, roosters, or the noise of a nearby marketplace to annoy you, just the sounds of nature. There are no roads into Nasu and the only access is by boat, so you won’t be bothered by hagglers trying to sell you a T-shirt nor will you have to put up with pollution and traffic noise.

Nasu Surf Bungalows is totally off the grid and isolated from the hassles that traveling can sometimes throw at you. While it feels like you are a million miles from anywhere at Nasu, you are actually just a 10-minute boat ride to civilization, so you can enjoy isolation with the comfort of knowing you are not far from hospitals, banks, and convenience stores.

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Lombok International Airport (LOP). Transfer from and to this airport is available upon request.

For only 35 AUD for the car and driver (seats up to six) and 16 AUD per person for the ferry, Nasu Surf Bungalows can arrange a car to be waiting for you to get you to Nasu without any of the headaches. The driver will take you across Lombok (approximately two hours in an air-conditioned car). He will then escort you onto the fast boat which will take you across the channel to Sumbawa (one to two-hour ride in air-conditioned). When you arrive in Benete harbor in Sumbawa, Nasu Surf Bungalows will be waiting to pick you up and take you to your bungalow (10 minutes).

You can also fly to Sumbawa. Sumbawa has two main domestic airports, one in Sumbawa Besar which is about three hours drive from Nasu Surf Bungalows, the other is in Bima, from there, it can take up to six hours in a car to reach Nasu Surf Bungalows. This route is not recommended as flights are often delayed or canceled and traffic on the road can be slow.

Arrival by ferry/boat

Ferries operate 24 / 7 between Bali to Lombok and Lombok to Sumbawa. These ferries are “roll on and roll off”, so you can take your vehicle all the way from Bali to Sumbawa and back again. This method of travel is time-consuming (up to 24 hours) but for people with time on their hands, it is a great way to see more of Indonesia.

Airport: Lombok International Airport Airport transfer available: Lombok International Airport (US$24 per person) Additional charges may apply. You can request this in the next step.

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 14% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
