Accommodation

Nasu Surf Bungalows is the perfect land-based surf camp for anyone looking for world-class waves, comfortable accommodation, and quality food for a reasonable price. The bungalows are located at Nasu Surf Bungalows' own private beach, set right in the heart of West Sumbawa's world-renowned surf breaks. With a left and right break straight out the front and boat on standby ready to take you to surrounding breaks, finding the wave of the day is easy. Nasu Surf Bungalows caters for a maximum of eight guests at a time which gives you a better experience and reduces the number of surfers in the water.

Program

Once you rise in the morning, make your way into the restaurant where coffee, tea, and all you can eat breakfast are waiting for you. Over breakfast, you can watch the right and left breaks out the front and discuss the best surfing options for the day ahead. Nasu’s left and right waves both need a high tide to make it really turn on. So, if it’s not working or you would just like to surf one of the many other world class waves in the area, then you will go with the boat and head out for the day. Some of the waves close by are phantoms, little bingin, scar reef, donuts, playgrounds, supersucks, yo-yos, and tropicals, along with a bunch of other secret spots.

While you hunt for the best waves, you’ll notice West Sumbawa’s amazing coastline where the mountains touch the sea. This awesome coastline means other traveling surfers with a car or motorbike can find it very time-consuming traveling over the mountains just to check each spot to eventually find a break with only 20 minutes paddle out, not the case in your boat with an easy 40 minutes ride to the southern bay named Tropicals and the closest (scar reef) less than 10 minutes from Nasu. You will be dropped straight into the lineup.

The boat is an Indonesian style sampan and seats up to 10 people. With open walls and a roof for sun protection, it’s the perfect boat for photography. If you’re feeling burned out while surfing, paddle back to the boat for a snack and drink, reapply sunscreen, and get back out there. There is no time schedule when staying with Nasu Surf Bungalows. They go at your pace, surf where you want, and serve meals when you’re hungry.

The waves

March to September is generally considered the “surf season” in West Sumbawa with offshore winds and blue skies almost every day. It’s not uncommon to score weeks on end of perfect waves. Many people tend to think that the wet season (October to February) doesn’t provide any waves, however, this is not true. With fewer people around and Nasu Surf Bungalows knowledge of the area's waves, it’s very possible to be rewarded with uncrowded perfection during these months.

The surf in West Sumbawa is regarded as some of the best in the world with famous waves such as supersucks, yoyos, donuts, and scar reef all just a short boat ride from Nasu's bungalows. So, if Nasu Surf Bungalows wave out the front isn’t breaking or you’d just like to surf another spot then the boat is ready to take you to one of the waves mentioned above or even one of West Sumbawa’s many secret spots that we’d prefer not to mention here.

Location

Nasu Surf Bungalows nestled in a valley with majestic mountains to the back and the Indian Ocean at your front door, which means apart from the occasional visiting Indonesian fishing boat it’s extremely rare to see anyone else apart from your travel companions on the beach.

When you wake up in the morning at Nasu, the first thing you will notice is the silence, broken only by jungle sounds like monkeys and birds and crashing waves. There’s no motorbikes, trucks, roosters, or noise of a nearby marketplace to annoy you, just the sounds of nature. There are no roads around Nasu and the only access is by boat, so you won’t be bothered by hagglers trying to sell you a tee-shirt, nor will you have to put up with pollution and traffic noise.

Nasu Surf Bungalows are totally off the grid and isolated from the hassles that traveling can sometimes throw at you. While it feels like you’re a million miles from anywhere at Nasu, the bungalows are actually just 10 minutes boat ride to civilization. So, you can enjoy isolation with the comfort of knowing you are not far from hospitals, banks, and convenience stores. Nasu Surf Bungalows are totally off the grid and use solar power and pure natural spring water.
