MY Carpe Novo was hand built in 2016 completely out of wood in the Maldives. She’s a 140 feet / 40 meters’ long motor safari yacht with four decks, 12 cabins, and can cater for up to 22 guests with two tenders to get in close to reefs, waves, and the islands or for fishing trips. Carpe Novo’s 60-feet Dhoni is fully stocked for diving and will be an optional extra for you. With a total of 13 experienced crew, you can rest assured that every detail is taken care of.

The Carpe Novo has 12 comfortable cabins of different standards divided into three decks. The different cabin types are junior suite cabins, single suite cabins, and standard cabins. All cabins have individually controlled AC, safety deposit boxes, TV screens connected to the central media system, and their own private bathrooms with shower and toilet. The electricity voltage on board is of 220 Volts, the plugs are of a multinational type, and internet is available onboard.

Standard cabins

A total of six standard cabins (Turtle, Dolphin, Barracuda, Octopus, Frog Fish, and Napoleon) are located on the cabin deck below the main deck. Four cabins (Turtle, Dolphin, Barracuda, and Napoleon) have one queen size bed and a single bed. Two front cabins (Frog Fish and Octopus) have two single beds. All standard cabins have a smart TV connected to the central media system, desk, private en-suite bathrooms with showers, and portholes.

Single suite cabins

The two single suite cabins (Eagle Ray and Manta Ray), located on the main deck, have queen size beds (150 x 200 centimeters), desk, TV connected to the central media system, hanging closet, large windows, private en-suite bathroom, and shower.

Junior Suite Cabin

The four junior suite cabins (Whale Shark, Hammerhead, Tiger Shark, and Thresher Shark Cabins) have king size beds (200 x 200 centimeters), which in the Whale shark and Tiger shark cabins can be separated in two single beds (90 x 200 centimeters), wide flat screen TV connected to central media system, desk, hanging closet, windows throughout the side of the cabin, bathroom with sink dual cabinets, and a spacious shower.

Sun deck

From the upper deck restaurant area, a staircase will lead you to the sun deck. On the sun deck, you will find plenty of sunbeds and a shaded sitting area, which is also excellent for having your sunset drinks. With book in one hand and a cocktail in the other, this is the perfect place for some quiet rest and relaxation.

Departing centrally located Male, you have easy access to North and South Male as well as the Central Atolls. Picture perfect paradise abounds, beautiful islands, sandy beaches, untouched reefs and protected seas perfect for cruising. With no set itinerary, the crew is at your service ready to fulfill your requirements, whether it’s relaxed cruising island to island, looking for the best dive or snorkeling locations, or maybe you want to fish or surf. Whatever you want to do, they are at your service.

Who can go on a private charter?

Consider this your boat, you can bring whoever you’d like to share the experience with on a private charter. Bring the kids, grandparents, the whole family, a group of friends. or book Carpe Diem for a business trip to impress clients or to reward your staff. They’d appreciate it. As Richard Branson says, ‘look after your staff and they will look after your clients’.

Surfing and paddling

Got a surfboard or stand up, the crew and local surf guide will make sure you are never too far away from those postcard-worthy waves you’ve always dreamed of. During the last decade, surfing in the Maldives has attracted many surfers from all over the world. The same swells hitting Indonesia deliver the goods to the Maldives except that the latitude is a little higher and the SE exposure has less energy.

Included excursions

This surf camp includes a barbecue session on a deserted island.

Scattered across the equator in the middle of the Indian Ocean, the gem like islands of the Maldives depict the rare vision of a tropical paradise. Palm fringed islands with pristine beaches, turquoise lagoons, crystal clear warm water, and stunning coral reefs with abundant varieties of marine life and hosting a massive variety of world class waves that are now accessible to the travelling surfer.

There are over 1,192 islands in the Maldives Republic, measuring 820 kilometers north to south and 120 kilometers east to west. The closest neighbors are India and Sri Lanka. People who have never been to the Maldives often have trouble comprehending that there is almost no land. It is sea with little pockets of coral dotted on top of an old volcanic mountain range. Only 202 of the islands are inhabited; there are no hills or rivers, almost no tides. The highest point above sea level is less than 10 feet. There are three main surfing areas:

  • The North and South Male Atoll, the surf season runs from April to October during the South-West Monsoons. The bigger swells run from May to August with two to eight feet waves on offer all season.
  • Central Atoll standard waves are long and clean with size varying between two and eight feet as well. During southern hemisphere winter (April-October), it’s pretty much never flat.
  • Southern Atolls right at the southern point of the Maldives are best for surf from February to April and from September to November, there are always waves in the area but the winds become very strong at other times of the year.

Amazing waves

The most famous breaks are in North Male Atolls. These long points breaks offer rights and lefts, whether for low intermediates, intermediates, or for professional surfers, with waves ranging from one to meters. For beginners South Male atoll is better suited

Surf spots can be accessed a number of ways; by surf charter boat, point breaks straight off the resort, or by Dhoni transferring surfers from the resorts and camps. Not all surf breaks are accessible from land.

A lot of surfers prefer surf charter boats to access the many different points in the North and South Male Atolls. On a boat there are no constraints and surfers can choose among the most famous breaks. But try to insure you surf Cokes, Jailbreaks (Himmafushi), Honky’s, Sultans, and Tucky Joes! They are amazing waves!

Things to do (optional)

Diving and snorkeling

With dive masters and an instructor on board, you will have the opportunity to complete a dive course in paradise or the freedom to dive to your limits. Carpe Diem is also set up with Nitrox diving facilities. If diving isn’t your thing, then one of the dive team can take you on a guided snorkeling tour.

Although the Maldives is known for the stunning beaches and azure waters that typify the tropical idyll, its life beneath the water’s surface is also becoming ever more respected by scuba divers in the know. The Maldives islands have some good coral reefs, but it’s the abundance of marine life throughout the country that sets it apart from other dive destinations. The water temperatures remain 27 to 28 degrees Celsius throughout the year.

All of Moon Tours’ vessels are accompanied by spacious diving Dhoni (tenders), which are equipped with the latest to meet the ever-growing demands of the divers today. The Dhoni have Nitrox membrane systems providing 32%, a toilet, hot water shower, fresh water showers and, camera rinsing tank. The Carpe Diem and the Carpe Novo provide standard up to three dives a day versus the Carpe Vita with up to four dives a day.

Snorkelers are welcome too, apart from some dedicated snorkel trips; the motor yachts all have a small speedboat (dingy) available for snorkelers to go snorkeling with Moon Tours’ crew when the divers are out diving. For private charters, itineraries and activities will be completely tailored for you.

Fishing has always been the lifeblood of island nations and the Maldives is no different, this place has been dubbed the ‘fishiest’ places on the planet. Pelagic species are often the favorite target, although there are a lot of reef and shallow water species that will give you a run for your money like bonefish, barracuda, groper, snapper, and the king of fish, the giant trevally. You will need some heavy-duty gear to get the giant trevally found out here onto the boat.

Cruising the deep waters along the outside of the reef yellow fin tuna, dogtooth tuna, dolphin fish, wahoo, sail fish, and marlin all cruise these waters. With the freedom to fish off all three boats along with experienced fishing guides, make sure you bring plenty of your favorite lures.

Flat water paddle boarding

The flat water-paddling in the lagoons and around the Islands is just picturesque, the perfect activity for non-surfers this will entertain for hours and give you a fitness work out at the same time. The boat does not have these aboard but hire can be arranged in Male by the boat prior to your arrival. Please ask Moon Tours if you would like them to arrange this for you.
