MY Carpe Novo was hand built in 2016 completely out of wood in the Maldives. She’s a 140 feet / 40 meters’ long motor safari yacht with four decks, 12 cabins, and can cater for up to 22 guests with two tenders to get in close to reefs, waves, and the islands or for fishing trips. Carpe Novo’s 60-feet Dhoni is fully stocked for diving and will be an optional extra for you. With a total of 13 experienced crew, you can rest assured that every detail is taken care of.

The Carpe Novo has 12 comfortable cabins of different standards divided into three decks. The different cabin types are junior suite cabins, single suite cabins, and standard cabins. All cabins have individually controlled AC, safety deposit boxes, TV screens connected to the central media system, and their own private bathrooms with shower and toilet. The electricity voltage on board is of 220 Volts, the plugs are of a multinational type, and internet is available onboard.

Standard cabins

A total of six standard cabins (Turtle, Dolphin, Barracuda, Octopus, Frog Fish, and Napoleon) are located on the cabin deck below the main deck. Four cabins (Turtle, Dolphin, Barracuda, and Napoleon) have one queen size bed and a single bed. Two front cabins (Frog Fish and Octopus) have two single beds. All standard cabins have a smart TV connected to the central media system, desk, private en-suite bathrooms with showers, and portholes.

Single suite cabins

The two single suite cabins (Eagle Ray and Manta Ray), located on the main deck, have queen size beds (150 x 200 centimeters), desk, TV connected to the central media system, hanging closet, large windows, private en-suite bathroom, and shower.

Junior Suite Cabin

The four junior suite cabins (Whale Shark, Hammerhead, Tiger Shark, and Thresher Shark Cabins) have king size beds (200 x 200 centimeters), which in the Whale shark and Tiger shark cabins can be separated in two single beds (90 x 200 centimeters), wide flat screen TV connected to central media system, desk, hanging closet, windows throughout the side of the cabin, bathroom with sink dual cabinets, and a spacious shower.

Departing Male harbor in the Maldives, you will find the island nations most famous waves in the North Male Atolls. The long breaks offer rights and lefts for the beginner to the intermediate and to the professional with waves ranging from one to three meters. In general, SUP surfers may prefer the South Male Atolls depending on the size of the swell.

A surf charter should be flexible, not locked into strict daily miles and locations. Rather, it should be based on mother natures plans for the swell and wind. Because of this, Moon Tours will not finalize the charter itinerary with the captain and crew until closer to departure. With a generous mileage allowance, you have the luxury to travel further than any standard charter to get away from the crowds and into the best waves. Rest assured, you will get what you are looking for with a boat and experienced crew that knows the area very well.

Scattered across the equator in the middle of the Indian Ocean, the gem-like islands of the Maldives depict the rare vision of a tropical paradise. They are palm-fringed islands with pristine beaches, turquoise lagoons, crystal clear warm water, and stunning coral reefs with abundant varieties of marine life and hosting a massive variety of world-class waves that are now accessible to the traveling surfer.

There are over 1,192 islands in the Maldives Republic, measuring 820 kilometers north to south and 120 kilometers east to west. The closest neighbors are India and Sri Lanka. People who have never been to the Maldives often have trouble comprehending that there is almost no land. It is the sea with little pockets of coral dotted on top of an old volcanic mountain range. Only 202 of the islands are inhabited. There are no hills or rivers with almost no tides. The highest point above sea level is less than 10 feet.

The waves

The most famous breaks are in North Male Atolls. These long point breaks offer rights and lefts, wave selections for beginner, intermediates, to professional surfers, with waves ranging from one to three meters. This area can be very crowded, particularly due to budget charters not having the allowance to travel long distances.

South Male Atoll is less visited, generally a bit smaller and not as heavy as waves in the North when the swells up, perfect for stand up and longboard waves. In this area, you also have the best chance to surf empty lineups. Surf spots can be accessed through a number of ways: by surf charter boat, point breaks straight off the resort, or by dhoni transferring surfers from the resorts and camps. Not all surf breaks are accessible from land.

A lot of surfers prefer surf charter boats to access the many different points in the North and South Male Atolls. On a boat, there are no constraints and surfers can choose from a wide range of wave options. They are amazing waves. During the last decade, surfing in the Maldives has attracted many surfers from all over the world. The same swells hitting Indonesia deliver the goods to the Maldives except that the latitude is a little higher and the SE exposure has less energy.

There are three main surfing areas. The first one is the North and South Male Atoll. The surf season runs from April to October during the Southwest Monsoons. The bigger swells run from May to August with two to eight feet waves on offer all season. The second one is Central Atoll. Central Atoll standard waves are long and clean with size varying between two and eight feet as well. During southern hemisphere winter (April-October), it’s pretty much never flat. The last one is Southern Atolls, which is right at the southern point of the Maldives. It is the best for surfing from February to April and from September to November. There are always waves in the area but the winds become very strong at other times of the year.

Things to do (optional)

Although the Maldives are known for the stunning beaches and azure waters that typify the tropical idyll, there's life beneath the water’s surface which is becoming ever more respected by scuba divers. The Maldives islands have some good coral reefs, but it’s the abundance of marine life throughout the country that sets it apart from other dive destinations. The water temperatures remain 27 to 28 degrees Celsius throughout the year.

All of the vessels are accompanied by spacious diving dhonis (tenders) which are equipped with the latest to meet the ever-growing demands of the divers today. The dhonis have Nitrox membrane systems providing 32 percent, a toilet, hot water shower, fresh water showers, and camera rinsing tank. Snorkelers are welcome too. Apart from some dedicated snorkel trips, the boats all have a small speedboat (dingy) available for snorkelers to go snorkeling with the crew when the divers are out diving.

Diving fees / rental gear is not included. There is diving gear available to rent on this boat. Please provide your rental needs. You will need to pay for the rental gear on board of the boat.
