You will be spending your nights at the Mint Surf Morocco apartments. All apartments are right on the ocean and in Taghazout, so you'll be sure to have a great time, in the heart of the action with a gorgeous view. No bunk beds! Mint Surf Morocco caters to travelers who like their privacy! The prices are based on two sharing an apartment, so if you are a solo traveller, you'll get your own bedroom in a 2-bedroom apartment.
Each private apartment has a furnished balcony that overlooks the surf during the day and is engulfed in a blanket of stars every night. So whether you want to check the waves for a dawny or sunbathe on the balcony, you can take it easy in the comfort of your own home-away-from-home. All of the apartments come with a fully equipped kitchen and satellite TV.
The intermediate lessons are perfect for those who can already stand reliably and catch whitewash, but are having trouble progressing to the next step: unbroken green waves. The instructors will help you paddle out back, choose the best waves, catch them, and ride down the line. The improver lessons package can boost your confidence and you can also test out some boards while you are at the camp.
During the program, you can expect to learn how to paddle out through waves, how to position yourself correctly in the line up, how to catch unbroken waves, timing, taking the drop and turning backside and frontside. You may also learn how to ride across the waves, etiquette and how to read the beach for the best waves, rips, and current.
Depending on the swell and your stamina, you will get to experience side trips to Paradise Valley and the souk (market) in Agadir with no extra charge.
The surf camp will take place in Taghazout, Morocco. Mint Surf Morocco is based in the surfing mecca north of Agadir in the town of Taghazout. It is 18 kilometers from the city of Agadir, and a 45-minute drive from Agadir-Al Massira International Airport (AGA), which is a short hop (two to four hours) from most European cities. It is the closest place for any European surfer to get year-round warm water, perfect waves, and a unique cultural experience.
Surf shops, restaurants, cafes, and the Friday market are all at your door. Taghazout's beaches and surf breaks like Panoramas and Hash Point are just steps away. There's an abundance of small corner shops selling water, soda, crisps, fruit, vegetables, and other essentials. For cigarettes, you must go to a Tabac. There is a well-stocked pharmacy and six surf shops.
To complete your retreat, you will be served with daily continental breakfast and a packed lunch with sandwiches, soda, biscuits, and fruit. Three-course dinners at the surf camp are also included in the price.
Foods are available at restaurants in Morocco. Mostly the food is a mixture of Moroccan and international dishes. You can get some great couscous and tagines, but pizzas and hamburgers are served at most restaurants as well. Please note that if you stay in an apartment, meals are on a self-catering basis. Tap water is fine for washing and brushing teeth, but you are not recommended to drink large quantities.
Bottled mineral water is cheap and cost only at 5 AED and is available everywhere. Visitors will sometimes suffer stomach upsets, but this often passes quickly, usually within 24 hours. When this happens, you are encouraged to give yourself a break, drink plenty of water, and stay near a bathroom if possible.
You are also encouraged to inform Mint Surf Morocco in advance if you have any special requirements. For vegetarians, you need to describe in detail if you also exclude dairy (milk and cheese) or eggs from your diets. In Morocco, not all specialized food alternatives are available. However, soy milk and diabetic products are available.
If you need a break from surfing, the most popular thing to do is go on a hike through Paradise Valley, amongst the palm trees and bright blue pools of water. The place is also great for cliff-diving. The path through the ancient valley is easily navigable and will lead you to gorgeous waterfalls at the end. Horse and camel rides and quad biking are all close by and easily organized.
For those who want to relax, there are miles of empty golden sandy beaches to discover or you can sunbathe and chill out on the terrace. The big souk in Agadir provides the quintessential Moroccan shopping experience with leather goods, woodwork, ceramics, carpets, blankets, jewelry, and clothing, but don’t forget to haggle.
On Friday, there is also a small market in Taghazout’s village square and on Wednesday there is a large Berber market in nearby Banana Village (Courier). Henna tattoos can also be arranged at the villa. You can also visit the ancient city of Marrakech as it is only four hours away, and is reachable by bus. The beautiful seaside town of Essaouira is only two and half hours north and is a popular day trip.
