Welcome to Mentawai Surf Camp, a private 5 bedroom guesthouse catering for just 4-12 people situated amongst the world renowned waves of playgrounds in the Mentawai Islands. Our beach front location, with views towards Beng Bengs (and other waves), is second to none. We proudly boast a number of waves within just 5-10 minutes from our shore as well as over 15 world class waves within 25 minutes. Without doubt, this is a year round surf destination and we invite you to joins us for a surfing experience in incredible surf spots in Mentawai!
Our surf camp is a brand new surf camp built in traditional Uma style of the Mentawais but with a twist of 1st world comfort. Catering for only 4-12 guests, the camp is an extremely comfortable and affordable option for surfers of all abilities and those looking to avoid the crowds of the other camps.
Each room is airy with extremely high ceilings, ventilated walls and comes complete with a mosquito net & fans. All bathrooms have a flush toilet, basin, tap and shower. With plenty of room, comfy bean bags & hammocks to relax in, this building offers guests lots of quiet time in between surfs.
In 2014 we completed the largest building that offers the main social area for the camp - as well as 1 x triple share bedroom (upstairs). The bedroom has extremely high ceilings & ventilated walls. The patio glass window/doors open onto a balcony - giving you 180 views as well as a nice breeze. The room comes complete with a mosquito net & fans. The (shared) bathroom is directly below. This is a really nice room - the only downside is that it's above the social area, so it's not suited for light sleepers who like to go to bed early.
The main building also has a large restaurant-lounge-bar on the ground floor. Its a very sociable space, ideal for fun and games such as karaoke, golf, various board games and of course drinking a few Bintangs! We also have a large projector for movies and watching the days surf photos. Its certainly a great addition to the camp and is the hub of all activity including all the daily meals.
Last but not least is The Tower which offers a private elevated room (with balcony) that overlooks the beach and bay, with views towards the neighboring islands and surf. It can be used as a double or two single beds for 2 guests. Its a lovely room, possibly the nicest. The only downside is it does not have a toilet attached to it due to its location. Guests will need to walk about 50 yards to the main building. Its a small price to pay for the best room in the house!
You need to arrive in Padang the night before their departure day from Padang. Next morning, you will take a taxi to Mentawai and aboard the fast ferry approximately at 06.15. You will arrive in Maura Siberut approximately at 12:00 via Sikabaluan. We will pick you by speedboat and expected to arrive in surf camp at 14.30. You will quickly settle in, unpack boards and have a quick snack. First day evening surfing from 15:00 - 16:00. Take shower and dinner before sleep and rest.
The evening before surfing we'll discuss how we should start the next morning. Usually we will wake up around 06:00 and try to leave before 07:00. On some occasions we will leave earlier, other times later. During every boat trip we'll bring along a gallon of water plus cold refreshment and some biscuits. You are welcome to buy sodas or beers and bring them along in the boat fridge. Just before departing, a quick wind and tide check to decide where to head first and if unclear we will head to our closest breaks and assess the situation from there.
We will usually surf until midday (or later) and come back for lunch and then head out again in the afternoon. We usually return from surfing around dusk, where we will head back to the camp cruising through wondrous sunsets for some well-deserved dinner and epic evenings at the bar!
On last day at surf camp, we will have an early surfing after breakfast and returning by 09:30. You will pack and depart from camp around 11:00 by speedboat and arrive in Padang approximately at 18:00. You need to overnight at Padang on the last day.
Pei Pei Lodge is ideally situated in arguably one of the best surfing areas in the world, the Mentawai Islands. Although spread out over 100 of kilometres of coastline, this particular area of South Siberut, Nyang Nyang Island and Playgrounds is the most condensed wave rich coastline by far. Made famous by the Quiksilver Indies Trader in the 90s, then by countless surf movies such as September Sessions and Young Guns (to name but a few) as well as gracing the covers of all the major Surfing Magazines this is the place every surfer dreams of coming.

"This camp definitely surpassed my expectacions. The staff members were always in a great mood and willing to help with anything. The surf guides were very well prepared and knew exactly where to go surfing according to the swell and wind. The food for breakfast, lunch and dinner were always really good. I didn't believe I was going to eat that well in the Mentawais. "

"I have being visiting the Mentawai’s for 5 years, sometimes up to a couple of trips a year, over the vast variety of surf camps available in the region, MSC has to be one the best run operations. Given the remoteness of this chain of islands, logistics and transportation are key. MSC staff is dedicated to find you waves and make sure you have a good time, they have a great fleet of traditional wooden boats operated by experience local drivers, each trip usually will have a boat driver, a deck hand an surf guide. Their main goal is to get you waves and the guide will suggest best waves for the conditions of the day, no funny business , never trying to save fuel or short change guests, they understand that people travel a long way to get there and their mission is for every guest to find the best waves of their lives, no Mather what craft or size waves you ride."
"The food is outstanding!, plenty of prawn & fish dishes during your stay; on occasions if the surf is too good to come back to camp the boat will be preloaded with lunch so you can maximise time in the water. every session is photographed and filmed so you get the option to buy the images at the end."
"the other great quality of this camp is the ambience, it has a great bar, with daily happy hour and karaoke."
"spending time in this camp is more like staying with family than being a hotel guest."
"Mentawai Surf Camp is a great/safe option if booking a Mentawai trip for the first time."

"Diego and Lora made me feel like home and part of their family during my stay in this place. I highly recommend it to anyone thinking about their next dream surf adventure. The food was surprisingly good, the waves were firing and my overall stay at the camp was really comfortable. Local staffs were super friendly and willing to be helpful at all times. I enjoyed great times drinking beers, playing ping pong, shooting balls in the driving range, snorkeling, fishing, watching movies, playing video games or just hanging."
