Surf with Orlando Pereira, who is a local of Jardim do Mar and is the safest guide on the island whom everybody want to learn from. You will be in the capable hands of an internationally recognized surfer who will teach you how to go on in the waves of Madeira, Portugal.
Cecilia’s House is located in a timeless and traditional village called Jardim do Mar (Garden on the Sea). The charming bed and breakfast is located in the corner of the village surrounded by gardens and views to the sunset on the Atlantic Ocean.
Cecília is the first host in the village, a passion that started by accident when a surfer wandered into the beautiful waves, and at the end of the day, needed a place to stay, the hosting adventure started.
Cecília’s House is surrounded by flowers and views to the sea, and this natural environment can be your home with the caring and always available host, Cecília. Orlando is Cecilia’s cousin, the one that takes care of the reservation and communication before the guests arrive in the beautiful location. During the stay, the main host is Cecilia.
The rooms have private WC. The common areas are shared between the guests and the host. The property has a fully equipped kitchen and a living room exclusive for guests' use. The outside balcony to is perfect for meals, relaxing, and enjoying the view and a magical garden surrounded by flowers and the sea.
The village has free parking in the center of the village. Once you’re in the village, you just need to follow the “Cecilia’s House” signs, and you will find the peaceful corner by the sea.
This is a five-day course. Each day, there will be three hours of surf / theory, surf lesson. Madeira Surfing is committed to taking you surfing in the best conditions. The day’s schedule is flexible and will change accordingly depending on the weather forecast. Mid tide is needed to surf so the surf sessions and theory may take place in the morning or afternoon, depending on the tides and the winds.
The surfing lessons are given at the beaches of Seixal, Machico, or Porto da Cruz; where you have to drive 30 to 45 minutes by car.
Warning: If the weather is not favorable for surf lessons, it will be replaced by another activity decided by the organizer.
Orlando Pereira was born in the famous village of Jardim do Mar and was the first surfer in Madeira Island. He was a surfer competitor and won for several years in the Madeira Regional Championship. He also represented the region in the national surf contests as well as in the World Big Waves Championships (the only one representing Madeira) in Madeira. He has worked more than 17 years with tourism in Madeira Island, working for the hotel group, Porto Bay. This picturesque village of Jardim do Mar is famous in the world of surfing, which considers it a surfing paradise. It is known for being the best spot for surfing in Madeira. The village offers other interesting alternatives to those who enjoy sports, such as hiking, swimming, and sailing.
The lovely landscape of this small town is quite inviting. The sea is of a deep blue and the little houses full of flowers stand out in the landscape of narrows pathways, vineyards, and banana plantations. In this village, you can visit the Parish Church of Nossa Senhora do Rosário and the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Piedade. On the seaside, you can visit the ruins of the old mill where you can see Portuguese tiles.

If you are looking for a very relaxing experience with stunning landscapes and awesome marine activities, this will be your best choice. Leave Marina do Funchal at 9 a.m. This boat trip cruises along the south coast towards Ponta do Pargo. Before returning, you will stop for a while to allow you to snorkel, stand up paddling, or kayaking. Buffet lunch will be served on board and there is possibility of refreshing yourself again before arriving. You can book this trip from May until October on every Sunday.
This boat trip takes about nine hours. You will be able to arrive at the Desert Islands Nature Reserve and enjoy the crystal-clear sea waters on an almost still virgin volcanic beach. On a total area of 12.586 acres, it is composed by Ilhéu do Chão, Deserta Grande, Bugio, and Ilhéus Adjacentes. Madeira’s mountain landscape will seduce you to try this activity. For beginner’s level, it is suggested canyoning at Ribeira de Cale, an easy route for everybody no matter your age. It will last for about three hours. Dare yourself going down on long waterfalls, on a challenging experience always in the presence of a qualified team.
Challenge yourself by jumping off the cliffs in the sea water, walking, swimming, and climbing along with the coast by trying coasteering at Ponta de São Lourenço.
