JD, with 30 years of experience in surfing, created the 1st mobile surf school in Portugal, open 365 days a year. He trained young pro surfers to compete at the highest level and travelled to 4 continents to surf all kind of waves. He’s a lifeguard and used that experience to teach surfing programmes to young students in many schools. He also developed projects for mental disabled children and people suffering from autism, as well as surf camps for kids, kitesurf classes, SUP, and surf trips around Portugal. He is the founder and owner of Surfing Life Club, surf school in Matosinhos, Porto.
Pedro has been surfing for 25 years. You can count with all his experience and his local awareness of the sea and surf conditions. He won the region surf championship in 2006.
The surf camp is located in Maceda, right beside the nature pine tree forest and close to beautiful uncrowded beaches. It is along a forested road on both sides that we come to this beach, where you can still find peace and quiet even in summer. A special place that can combines sea and countryside. Once you arrive to the beach, the view is amazing! Sea ahead and pine forest behind. All of this beauty just 30 kilometers from Porto.
São Pedro de Maceda beach is 11 kilometers from the center of Ovar, a municipality that offers other beaches worth visiting: Esmoriz, Cortegaça, Furadouro where you can find typical portuguese restaurants, beach cafés, bars and pubs. The cities of Aveiro and Espinho are also close.
After surf and if you are up to, do a picnic in the many shadows you will find in the forest area, take a bike ride through the Ovar bike paths and visit Buçaquinho Environmental Park.
Matosinhos City Beach in Porto is the surfing center of North Portugal. This well protected harbor beach break offers rideable waves for all surf levels, all year round. This also makes Matosinhos one of the best places to learn to surf in the Norte Region, and also in all of Europe.
You can arrange surf lessons or equipment rentals right on the beach from one of many surf schools. There are also a number of surf shops and outlets selling everything from world renowned surf brands, to authentic local Portuguese and European made surf gear.
Matosinhos beach is one of the only surf spots in the world that is accessible by city metro. As such, this makes a great surf and city holiday destination. Maceda Surf Camp's local experts will tell you that the waves are good in winter and crowds are minimal.
Espinho is the most famous surf spot in the Norte Region. It can hold waves over three meters (10 feet) tall and draws a skillful crowd when it's on. On its better days, you'll find some of the best beach break barrels in Portugal. Every Spring Espinho hosts the Ripcurl Pro Juniors competition and WSL Longboard Pro events.
Although Espinho has a committed local surf population, it's also a very popular and friendly beach for learning. Surf Schools operate from the beach all summer long and local surf clubs use this base for training future pro's.
During this holiday, you will be served one daily local breakfast at 9 a.m.
