" Gewoon perfect "
Ik heb me ontzettend goed geamuseerd, bij Maceda surfcamp. Het zijn zeer gemotiveerde, lieve mensen die deze plek tot een thuis maken.
Echt een plekje om tot rust te komen, te genieten van de omgeving, leuke mensen te ontmoeten en natuurlijk het dagelijks surfen, wat uitstekend georganiseerd is.
Wat heel leuk is, is dat het surfen de gemeenschappelijke deler is voor iedereen die daar aanwezig is. Als je je een beetje openstelt kan je hier gemakkelijk nieuwe vrienden maken.

"It is everything you need."
I loved everything, the cosy house, the oasis backyard, the friendliness of the volunteers and owners, the activities were great. The yoga sessions given by two different yoga teachers were equally great- active and relaxing. The yoga area is nice and relaxing!
The surf lessons were really fun and the surf teachers were nice and patient, and gave many important/interesting informations about the waves, the current and how to understand the ocean.
I had an absolute blast for the week I was there. I couldn’t recommend more! I am sad to leave, but I will be back!

"Perfect nature getaway and surf lessons!!"
This surf camp had truly exceeded my expectations. Everything was just perfect - from fantastic staff members, facilities, activities and simply the nature at and around the camp!
I was welcomed with lots of positive energy and this continued onto the whole 7 days of my stay, just pure happy vibes and amazing memories created with other travellers who I met there.
The surf instructors are very knowledgeable, supportive and kind. They will help you learn to catch waves but also to have a good time with it! Thank you Raka, Alfonso, Andre, Kate and Loic. :)
This place brings a sense of community, family and togetherness! It is perfect for Solo travelers (but also for groups)
I would highly recommend this camp for anyone who is looking for something new, nature getaway, and a surf destination :)

"Fantastic Surf Experience at Maceda Surf Camp"
I stayed at the Maceda Surf Camp for three nights at the end of July and the beginning of August, and I had a fantastic experience overall. The warm welcome from the owners, the friendly and open-minded atmosphere among the guests, and the sense of community were all highlights. It was my first time surfing, and it’s definitely an experience I would love to repeat. The owners are wonderful, giving responsabilities to the guests rather than just customers, which adds a personal touch to the stay.

It was a very exciting, funny and lovely experience. The effort the surf camp team puts for the guests is really huge. Besides surfing and yoga, there is a lot of activities planned, from wine&cheese tasting, maceda games to pizza night…. You will leave the camp with great memories.
The surf instructors were helpful and created a good surf experience.
Surf camp is located in easy to reach area from Porto, is close short bike ride to the beach.

"Pleasant stay with nice waves and Cake!"
Everyone was so nice to us and we had a lot of fun. It rained a lot the weekend before we arrived so we could not stay in the tents, but they had another option for us left.
The camp is very nice and me and a friend of mine had a lot of fun in the camp and while surfing!

The best part by far was the staff and volunteers, who were so nice and welcoming throughout my entire stay. The people in the camp a very welcoming and friendly, including a very cute dog! We had fun evenings making pizza and having wine. The location is a really nice place to hang out!
The surfing lessons were great, with individual feedback, and the beaches were chosen every day to match the level of surfers.
I also liked that vegan food option were no problem, there were milk alternatives at breakfast and humus and lupine beans at the wine and cheese event. At the pizza event there was also a vegan pizza and it was super tasty!
Finally, the online communication before I arrived was good and the place was easy to find with the provided instructions.

È stato bellissimo stare al Maceda Surf Camp, i gestori sono gentili e disponibili, ci sono due cucine e un grande e splendido giardino, con zona camping e una tenda per lo yoga.
L' ostello è molto Pulito e curato.
Sono arrivato di sera e poco dopo mi sono seduto intorno al fuoco ho conosciuto persone che vengono da tanti paesi diversi e ho avuto l'occasione di fare nuove amicizie.
Le lezioni di surf sono state molto belle, alcuni giorni abbiamo potuto vedere tramontare il sole in acqua, bellissimo.
Gli istruttori sono molto bravi e amichevoli.
Per passare il tempo è possibile prendere la bici e seguire la lunga pista ciclabile che costeggia il mare sotto ad una foresta di pini marittimi oppure è possibile fare un pó di skate nei dintorni.
Una bella esperienza lo consiglio a tutti.

"A beautiful week!"
I started my day with a local party and very nice people. Surfing classes and yoga sessions were really enjoyable. It's the perfect place to slow down and enjoy the nature. The personal made a lot of activities to really make this experience unforgettable such as wine and cheese, bonfire and local food, and catching the sunset. The breakfast were always really fresh and made with love. I got really sick the last night but Rachel and Loic helped me on it. We were made very welcome by Loic, who is truly warm and friendly, and everything is organized to encourage social contact between people, such as the outdoor furnitures and the evening events. "Two weeks of pure bliss"
Maceda surf camp is a small piece of heaven and it's way more then surfing: the atmosphere, the people... I've been there for two weeks and I couldn't ask for more. Just imagine waking up and having a cup of tea close to the pond, waiting for everyone to start their day, and then have breakfast with all the beautiful people you have met. Then surfing, practicing yoga, chilling... Loic and Rachel are the prefect guests, fun and kind, always ready to play a board game; and the surf instructors are always ready to help you and give you tips. You will find there a place to recharge from you everyday life, to stay alone and chill, or to stay with people and have fun. I can't describe how much I'm grateful to have spent my holidays there.

"Best vacation of my life!"
I absolutely loved this place! Not only for the surfing but for the whole vibe of the camp. It was all so chilled out and, despite surfing for 4-5 hours at a time, I was able to relax so much. Everyone was so nice and friendly and I made loads of new friends.
I was a bit worried that, being older (I'm pushing 60!), I wouldn't fit in, but there were people even older than me and ageism wasn't an issue. Not everyone surfed but just used the camp as a base to do other activities. In fact, this place was so chill and void of any "isms". The owners, instructors, and volunteers made everyone feel so welcome. I cannot wait to come back!

"Beautifull place with very kind staff"
I had picked this place based on reviews and it certainly did not disappoint. The place is beautifully made with recycled materials. There is a big garden to enjoy with other guests or a place to relax in the back.
The staff is extremely helpfull and kind. For example, I was only 10 minutes in and not unpacked my bags and one of the owners asked me if I wanted to join the surfclass that left 10 min ago. So I hopped into my swimsuit and she took me to the beach and was surfing the same day I boarded my plane.
The instructors are very knowledgeable and it is clear they enjoy giving the classes. I definitely made good friends here and I'll be back for sure!

"Fantastic Experience"
The breakfast was good and slightly varied at times which was nice.
The staff were super helpful, always available, and full of character. During surfing they were encouraging and attentive, helping you to correct mistakes then letting you build experience.
The camp itself had plenty of social spaces and they hosted fun activities such as camp fires, tasting events, workshops, waterfall visits, and hikes (unfortunately i didn't get to do a lot of these). Plenty of opportunities to meet people due to the social design of the camp.
Overall, very relaxed atmosphere and a great place to unwind, meet interesting people, and learn to surf.

I loved the location, beautiful setting in the woods with eco friendly, quirky accommodation. Kate, Loic and Gonzales where great instructors and intimate groups make for good learning opportunities to improve technique while having fun! "Great Surf Camp in Maceda"
Loved everything! Very rustic location but in a great way where you can relax, switch off and enjoy the peace and quiet before surfing! Great location from Porto and the local train station (super easy to get to). The hostel staff were amazing and surf teachers were really attentive and passionate about what they do and gave great advice to progress skills. Surf lessons were long which was great and really gave you time to practice for as long or as little as you want. I loved everything and was sad to leave as it felt like home. In addition, breakfast was tasty and was a very social hostel!

"perfect experience"
I am delighted with my experience here, everything was well organized and I had a very healthy week. Because I have almost no exercise habits, facing the waves here, I slowly learn how to stand up from the surfboard, the coaches are very patient, and Kate cared whether I am afraid of the waves (I am not scared, I just have no way not to be washed back to shore by it), the way Loic taught me got me to my feet in the end, and I didn't have the strength to stand up straight up in a classic way. There was also the assistant coach Lena, I love Lena very much, she is really a passionate and energetic teacher. Really very happy, I will come back again.

"Beautiful surroundings and great surf"
I'm really happy that we chose Maceda Surf Camp. Communication with stuff was easy and everything was easy to organize. I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the camp out of the city with nature around. The accomodations were really cool. We had surf but also got together with other people visiting the surf camp. One morning they took us to a small waterfall. Also I can recommend yoga lesson.

Hola! I spent 4 nights in Maceda Surfcamp and would like to share my experience. The facilities where exactly what i was expecting- next to the forest, nice garden, being next to nature, hearing the birds waking you up in the morning :) This was my second surfing experience and progress was really fast. Catarina was my surf teacher and she really put the input to improve my skills, focusing on the technique, checking if i feel safe in the water, we also did some video analysis and it worked- i was catching waves in the 3rd day! And not only.. she showed places around Porto and really was a friend and teacher in one person. And thanks to Loic i have some nice practical and theoretical knowledge, analysing surfing conditions, nice Surfskate lesson, showing some local places (Bonsai garden) and taking care that everything is going well :) This is more than Surfcamp, it’s a lifestyle and the camp is really thinking about sustainability and nature which was also really important to me. And of course i need mention girl doggie Niki (the soul of the camp) for sharing the love and waiting for everyone as it would be hers family. The surf camp was so nice. Super friendly. Best instruction ever. Kates instruction and Loic was so good. It is the first time we have been encouraged to really understand the water rather than being pushed onto the waves. Kate was an amazing host! We felt so cared for by her, nothing was too much! the room was great, Maceda beach was So beautiful, the snunset surf was the absolute highlight! Despite the weather being a little grey we had a brilliant time. I went with my 13 year old son and everyoje was so friendly and nice. Loic played chess with him and the other surfers were so inclusive and kind. Highly recommend!

Amazing camp in the nature, with lot of spaces to relax or play volley-ball with the team and the residents!
Surf professors are professionnal and very nice, they know very well their beaches and plan surf session when it's time to surf in good condition ; they take care of you also when you are surfing.
They can split the groups according to the different levels.
Yoga professors are passionnated and prepare yoga sessions for a perfect mix'n match with the body needs for surfing. They can also prepare something for the ones who have some pains.
Joao, the owner, is also very nice and he gave us a special class leading us in the outside to take some green waves and washing machine 🤪 (begginer level 3 to intermediatary level).
During the summer, prepare some pullovers, it is not so hot during the night ;)
People all around the world come in there, Norway, Germany, Austria (not Australian :p ), Bresilian, French, American...
But the professors speak French, English, spanish and Portugese.

"Maceda SurfCamp, 3 Nächte, Ende September"
Sehr ruhige Lage, viel Umschwung und wir hatten das SurfCamp für uns. Wir waren ab dem 1. Tag ein Teil der Surf-Familie. Schöne alte Einrichtung, besonders schön waren die vielen Surfbretter im Camp. Bereits am Anreisetag konnten wir Surfen, da gerade das Zeitfenster zum Surfen offen war (Ebbe). Der Transport zum Strand wurde durch die netten Instruktoren immer angeboten.

Honestly I liked everything about the place! Joao, Gonçalo and Alex were excelent instructors that not only teach you surf but they also make you have a really good time, they are really friendly and good people, last but not least, both Joanas are lovely and make you feel at home. The surf camp placed in incredibly beautiful place. Also the area of surf camp is very cosy and cute. That was pure joy to stay there, surrounded by nature. With Joao you will always have fun. Totally recommend this place.

"Relaxed surf camp in a beautiful spot"
Staying at Maceda Surf Camp was like going on holiday with family in the best possible way. Joao and Joana are fantastic hosts and their camp is beautifully designed allowing privacy and community in just the right balance. It's a short walk from a beautiful beach, and their surf lessons were great – there were only five students in our group (at the most) and everyone was making progress thanks to Pedro and Joao's instruction.

We really enjoyed our stay at the surf camp. The family was very welcoming and looked after us well. The little hostel is super cozy and relaxed and the surf lessons were great as there were not many people so the instructors could focus on everybody.

The surfcamp is very nice! You feel as you were at home from the first day. It is a very familary atmosphere and you can do lot of things besides surfing. The surf lessons are very good and helpful. We enjoyed it, had a great time there and learned the very basics to surf!

"My first surfing camp experience "
We went for a four day surfing camp. Everyone at the camp, especially our instructor Pedro was extremely helpful and we had great sessions as complete starters. The camp site was relaxing with a big beautiful garden and fruit trees where we played guitar and table tennis. We had a very nice bbq in one night. The lodge was uniquely made by Joao with local woods and surfing boards. Overall it was a unique fun and memorable experience. I would want to go back again soon. Thank you!

"Fantastic friendly experience "
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Maceda surf camp. The family are so warm and friendly. The accommodation is tidy, peaceful and relaxing. It feels as if you’re visiting a traditional Portuguese family rather than staying in an Airbnb as they welcomed you into their home and showed you Portuguese traditions. I was always welcomed with a friendly face. I had some fantastic surf lessons. My particular favourite was surfing whilst the sun was setting. Maceda has the most beautiful sunsets, food and people. I would highly recommend this all round amazing experience.

"Great Stay in Maceda!!"
I loved the surf camp!!! Such a great time!!! The team take you to great beaches and know the tides so well so you will get optimum surf time. They really helped me to progress. I felt at home in the hostel / house and it's a really friendly atmosphere where people are sociable but you can still do your own thing if you want. Joana, Joaoa and Tomas are a great team. I got to know so much about surfing and Portugal in a short period of time.
The hostel is away from the beach, but this is an advantage in some ways as you get to chose the right beach for surfing that day and are away from bigger crowds but still with access by bike to the beach. Plus the big garden and fruit trees are a great place to relax after a surf session!

"Best surf camp! "
In this camp, they make you feel like home, everyone is very friendly and helpful, also the house is very cosy. They have a nice dog and cat. Specially the surf instructor 'Thomas' is an amazing surfteacher, he knows exactly how to help and surfs really good. We slept in the tube, which was extremely nice furnished and calm. All in all nothing to complain about, our expectations got exceeded.

We had a great time with João and Joana! They welcomed us like childhood friends, and took us out to eat and sightseeing in Porto and the coast . Hostel facilities are very good, everything is available, and it feels like home. The school has a good structure for lessons, with all equipment needed for beginners.
