With its beautiful beaches, lush jungles, and friendly people, Costa Rica is paradise on earth. The place has a tropical climate with 27 to 28 degrees in the water all-year-round and usually a bit more than 30 degrees in the air. The country creed is “Pura Vida” or 'pure life' and this is what Costa Rica is all about – to enjoy life. The locals are incredibly hospitable and unsurprisingly happy given that their home is one of the planet's most precious treasures!
The camp is located in a lush garden with the main villa and five smaller bungalows. With a great vibe and nice lounge and hangout area by the pool bar, the camp is ideal for relaxing after an eventful day.
The place has 34 spots in total, divided into two doubles, one twin room, and five dorm rooms. One of the double rooms are in a private bungalow and two doubles are in the main villa (basic double). One dorm room is located in the main villa (basic dorm) and four dorms are located in the bungalows.
There are big lockers under the beds in all dorms. In the double rooms, there are small lockable boxes (only for money / passport / phone, etc).
You can choose which level suits you best based on the below descriptions of each level:
This course is for you that have never surfed before, or that haven’t surfed in a while and want to go through the basics one more time. Lapoint Camps will give you a fun and encouraging introduction to surfing, and share the stoke when you catch your very first waves. In groups of six surfers per instructor, they’ll make sure that you develop your skills in line with your level and that you’ll catch as many waves possible. It’s all about having fun together with the other surfers.
The instructors will not give out equipment to the guests before their first surf lesson, so they have the right equipment for their level.
You’ll be surfing easy waves on surrounding sand beaches and easy reef breaks where you’ll have a safe and comfortable experience when you explore the waves for the first time. The instructors will pick the best part of the beach where you will be able to catch the most white water wash and broken waves and have as much fun as possible.
This level is designed for those of you that have passed the level 1 or can catch and ride a whitewater wave on your own. Level 2 will focus on getting to the outside (lineup) in waist high waves. Lapoint Camps will teach you to catch green waves and ride the face of the wave instead of going straight in the white water.
You’ll be targeting waist high green waves, and catch them just when they’re about to break. Every day, your instructor will take you to the surf spot that is best suited to catch as many green waves as possible.
This level is designed for those of you that have passed the level 2 course or can catch waist high green waves on your own and surf frontside and backside. You’re not yet confident in head high waves on your own but you’ll surf easy reefs, point, and beach breaks with all the knowledge you need to feel confident to surf most breaks, focusing on entry and exit from the break, surf etiquette and which peak is the best for your level of surfing. This course has a max limit of six surfers per week.
During this course, you’ll learn to be comfortable in a bit overhead conditions, and Lapoint Camps will always be looking for the waves where you can have the best progress and most fun. Your instructor will take you to the best suited spot in the area each day, that being reef, point, and beach breaks.
You alternate between surfing early and late in the day, and when you’re surfing early, you’re up somewhat early in order to enjoy the mornings when the surf is the best. When your body is surfed out, you head back to the camp and have a well-deserved lunch. The rest of the day is pretty much up to you; whether you want to stay by the pool, go to the beach, to town, or go on one of the many local attractions (beautiful beaches, jungle, horse riding, waterfalls etc.). After this, you serve dinner five times a week at the camp where you relive all the epicness of the day.
The following is an example of what a regular week at the Costa Rica surf camp can look like.
Times and content are subject to change without prior notification according to weather, waves, and other factors.
Santa Teresa is a charming little surf village, lined with cozy restaurants run by travellers who have fallen in love with the town and settled down here. You will love it for the Pura Vida vibe, many food options, and dreamy surroundings. Santa Teresa is also famous for amazing wildlife, some of the world's most beautiful beaches, and an unbeatable atmosphere.
Lapoint Surf Camp Costa Rica is situated near the stunning Playa Carmen beach. The most popular nearby attractions is Montezuma town, waterfalls, Cabo Blanco National Park, and Tortuga Island.
If you like sweets, you're likely to love the cakes, juices, and smoothies at The Bakery. Banana Beach is a great beach restaurant with something for everyone and the vibe there is amazing all day long. The Roastery in the village roast fresh beans every morning and serves the best coffee on the peninsula.
Usually the different lessons goes to Playa Hermosa and Playa Carmen according to conditions.
Playa Hermosa is a long sandy beach with easygoing beach breaks and a great surf spot for beginner surfers. You will find both lefts and rights with sand bottom. Also a great beginner surf spot is Playa Carmen with a long right hander and a shorter left.
Santa Teresa is a great surf spot for advanced surfers. It usually picks up more swell and is therefore bigger and more hollow than other breaks as well. It is a variety of beach breaks and point breaks. The surf is better at low tide when the waves tend to be faster. Another great wave is Sunset Reef (Mal Pais) which is a lefthander reef break with a fast takeoff followed by a long workable wall. It gets hollow with size and offshore winds and also needs a good swell to work.
The breakfast, which is included in all packages, consists of a delicious menu of local flavours and guest favourites such as cereal, eggs, and freshly baked bread served with jams, yoghurt, and fresh fruit.
A tasty range of meat, fish, and vegetarian dishes are available for lunch and dinner, all prepared fresh on-site by Lapoint Camps' very own chefs. Naturally, they will happily cater to any dietary requirements you may have.
Please note that five dinners are also included in the price. A meal in a restaurant costs around 20 to 30 USD on average.
Costa Rica is a place where it is easy to enjoy different activities. You can go horseback riding on the beach, join in for some yoga, take a SUP tour, rent an ATV, or go check out the waterfalls by zip-lining through the jungle. For other suggestions, please ask Lapoint Camps and they'll happily assist you.
