Accommodation

Check-in Time:
18:00
Check-out Time:
16:00

Accommodation is something super important when you leave your house. When you travel, it is vital to feel comfortable and be in a pleasant place that is according to your tastes. Has it happened to you that sometimes the accommodation where you stayed was not to your liking and this has made your trip not 100% perfect?

At La Madrileña de Surf, they know that good accommodation makes the difference when traveling. They agree on this point and that is why they have created a dream accommodation (or at least, their perception of it). Share what you think, La Madrileña de Surf would love hearing your evaluation and experience. This is made for you!

La Madrileña de Surf have two accommodations on the beach of Berria, a few meters from the beach sand. The "Beach Houses" are decorated with taste and thinking about the comforts that you need.

The Blue Beach House (BBH) has five double rooms. Two of them with double bed and bathroom en-suite. Another with two beds and bathroom in front of the room. And the last two rooms have two beds each sharing the same bathroom.

The Red Beach House (RBH) has four double rooms. Two of them with bathroom en-suite: one with a double bed and the other with two beds. The other two rooms have two beds each and share the same bathroom.

In addition, in each Beach House, you will find common rooms where you can relax, read a book, listen to music, or just have a good time talking with people. The common rooms are formed by different rooms, terraces, and a garden that will make you enjoy your stay even more. All of the accommodations are official and have the approval seal of Tourism of Cantabria and the City of Santoña.

We live in a digital world and, of course, the accommodations offer internet connection and Wi-Fi. La Madrileña de Surf also offers you a small corner service where you can buy water, soft drinks, beer, wine, sweet or salty snacks, and some other things. Because once you're in a place that you like, it's a bit lazy to go out and have a drink.

Program

To begin with, the number of students per class is seven to eight people maximum. Really? Yes, you read that right. Only seven to eight students go down to the beach at the same time with two instructors, which means that the student-instructor ratio is three to four students. This translates into maximum personalized attention in each class. But this does not end here. By only being seven to eight people per class, when you are in the water, your surfing area will not be overcrowded by many students that prevent you from taking waves, which are in the middle of your trajectory when you have caught a wave or they do not allow the instructor to be aware of all the students - and this is just the beginning.

La Madrileña de Surf will divide the classes by levels of surfing (initiation, basic, advanced, and perfecting). They like to offer a very high-quality service, that is why they have to start from a logical base. They cannot mix students with different levels of surfing. It is vital that the students of each level have their own class, with the knowledge and specific techniques of each one. For all this, La Madrileña de Surf will divide the classes by levels and they will know what is yours by means of a questionnaire that they will send you once you have formalized the reservation of the place.

During your surf lessons, several of them will be recorded with a video camera from the beach so that your surfing waves, your movements, and your technique are recorded. What La Madrileña de Surf intend with this is to go a step further and to show you what the result of your surfing level during the classes is. Therefore, they will make video correction sessions in your theoretical classroom, where your qualified instructors will help you understand what steps you need to improve, what technique is behind each movement, and how to get it to evolve so that you can move to the next level. Do you want to learn to surf and reach your maximum level? Well, with La Madrileña de Surf’s methodology and technique of surf lessons, you will get it.

While it is true that the best way to learn and improve your level of surfing is by practicing, you cannot leave aside the theory behind the practice. In La Madrileña de Surf, they take their work very seriously and that is why they know that it is also important to learn theoretical knowledge that will enhance your surfing. Therefore, they have developed specific theoretical surfing documentation for each level.

Know the science behind the ocean and the sea, understand the types of winds that move the waters, understand the funds that make the waves grow, know the steps to perform the best maneuvers, master the technique of inertia that there is to put together a surfboard with a wave, and, most importantly, know the safety means that must be followed so that in the end you can surf without danger. Do you see how not everything is to practice? The more you know the theory, the faster and better you will advance for each practice.

La Madrileña de Surf will always adapt the two hours of surfing to the schedule that has the best tide and swell point for your level of surfing. For this reason, La Madrileña de Surf cannot establish a fixed schedule for surf lessons, but they can guarantee that there are always surf classes in the morning and afternoon.

All La Madrileña de Surf’s services and facilities have the licenses granted by Turismo de Cantabria, the City of Santoña and the General Delegation of Coasts.

Surf level I - Initiation

You never surfed and it's the first time you're going to try this sport? Would you like to get started and know the technique, safety, and practice surfing to be able to advance safely, efficiently, and with control? In La Madrileña de Surf you will learn:

  • Basic security for initiation
  • Transport and handling of surfing equipment inside and outside the water
  • Knowledge of the environment (beach, waves, tide, wind, etc.)
  • Technique to lie on the surfboard
  • Rowing technique on the surfboard
  • Running times on the wave
  • Stand up technique on the surfboard
  • Technique and posture on the surfboard

Surf level II - Basic

Have you surfed once or twice? Are you still in the area of foam taking waves that have already broken or you start to catch waves before they break without much success? Your technique when standing on the surfboard is not good and it costs you to direct the board? Do you not distinguish the direction of the waves (left and right) and it costs you to reach the peak when you try? In La Madrileña de Surf you will learn:

  • Reinforcement of security and basic concepts
  • Improved paddling technique (analysis of your current paddling)
  • Improvement of the standing technique (analysis of your current standing)
  • Improvement of the position on top of the surfboard (analysis of your current position)
  • Technique, tricks, and tips to get to the peak
  • Learning how to choose waves and their direction
  • Technique and methods to direct your surfboard on the wave
  • Technique to surf on the wall of the wave and generate speed

Surf level III - Advanced

Have you been surfing for some time and unfold with ease in the water? Are you completely independent and surf both waves of right and left? Do you have your own surfing equipment or are you thinking about acquiring it? Also, do the conditions of the sea (wave size, wind, or tide point) make your surfing session better or worse, considering your level? Are you starting to do the basic surf maneuvers like bottom turn, reentry, and cutback, but your technique and style are not good? Does it turn out that, in most cases, you do not succeed with the exact time of execution of the maneuvers on the wave? In La Madrileña de Surf you will learn:

  • Reinforcement of the effects and variables of weather conditions (waves, tides, and winds)
  • Analysis of existing failures and improvement of learning
  • Improvement of the surf posture technique (flexion, weights, arms, and head)
  • Improved wave reading and improvement of execution times
  • Improvement of the generation of speed for the execution of maneuvers
  • Detailed explanation, step by step execution, and improvement of the basic maneuvers (bottom turn, reentry, and cutback)

Surf level IV - Perfecting

Have you been surfing for a long time and are you more than independent in the water? Do you have a good reading of the wave, do basic maneuvers (bottom turn, cutback, reentry, and floater), although in some cases you fail something in the technique and in the execution time? Does the size of the waves and conditions do not usually determine your surfing session? Are you looking to go a little further and evolve your level of surfing? Do you want a coach to help you and guide you to improve, in addition to trying to get more complex maneuvers - such as aerial - or even to compete? In La Madrileña de Surf you will learn:

  • Analysis and correction of technical details
  • Analysis and improvement of the line and posture
  • Analysis and improvement of the exact execution times of the maneuvers
  • Generation of extra speed to perform very complex and powerful maneuvers
  • Advanced techniques for pro-surfer
  • Empowerment of individual qualities
  • Micro and macro specific surf training

Instructors

Joaquín Cotta
Joaquín is the instructor director of La Madrileña de Surf (the first surf school of Madrid). In addition to having a diploma in business studies and a degree in advertising and public relations, he is also a surfing sports technician for the Spanish Federation and NSCA-CPT, among other sports qualifications. Entrepreneur and innovator, Joaquín is a promoter of surfing inside and outside the capital.

Location

The surf school of La Madrileña is located on the beach of Berria, which belongs to the town of Santoña, in the Autonomous Community of Cantabria, Spain. The Berria beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in the eastern part of Cantabria. Two kilometers long, depending on the tide, the waves can reach more than 150 meters wide and its sand is fine and golden, almost white. It is surrounded by Mount El Brusco to the west, Mount Buciero to the east, and by an ecosystem of dunes and marshes to the south, which makes this beach an environment of incredible nature.

In addition, the beach of Berria is the only beach that has the distinctive "Blue Flag" (next to the beach of Ris), so it is a benchmark in terms of quality, safety, information, and environmental education. The beach of Berria is located on the edge of the first surf reserve in Spain. Therefore, it is perfect for surfing and allows you to combine surfing on this beach with others from the region with high-quality waves, such as Somo, Loredo, Langre, and Laredo. It is also the neighboring beach of one of the best waves of Cantabria, El Brusco; a wave suitable only for people with a high level of surfing.

Nevertheless, as not everything is just a beach, you can also go to Santoña, a town with a great seafaring tradition that offers interesting cultural corners (historical buildings from the Napoleon era) and culinary routes to suck your fingers.

Food

If La Madrileña de Surf's goal is to offer a service of very high quality, the food has to be up to the circumstances. La Madrileña de Surf wanted to offer something that was one step ahead of the other surf schools and offer a quality meal, prepared daily and according to the needs of their students and athletes. For this reason, they have decided to offer a service that is out of the ordinary and that adds one more point to the whole project that they have built as a surf school. They know how important food is and how it is linked to a healthy lifestyle, much more when they practice sports.

In La Madrileña de Surf, they offer a food service on a full board basis (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) with healthy and natural food with local produce and high quality. La Madrileña de Surf has seen how these same words they are using - "healthy and natural food with local produce" - have often been misused and perverted, leaving them meaningless and lowering the quality standard. La Madrileña de Surf offers a service prepared daily, with local produce bought in the market of supplies of Santoña to offer you fresh, healthy, and balanced menus that provide all the necessary nutrients.

La Madrileña de Surf is going to offer you good quality food to give you all the energy and vitality that you will need - fresh and natural produce, nothing frozen or processed. They firmly believe in the influence of food in your bodies and therefore, according to their maxim of offering a service of very high quality, La Madrileña de Surf will not fail to miss their word.

For all this, La Madrileña de Surf repeats: market food, bought every day, and prepared for you by their chef, a person who loves what he does, putting love and effort in his work. And that, of course, has all the necessary permits (food handling, cooking studies, and specific courses by experts) to offer what they have always wanted when they go on a trip - good, great food!

Also, if you have any allergies or if you suffer from any food intolerance, you just have to indicate this symptom in the student file that they will send you once you complete the reservation process. They will take care of everything.
