Serenity Houseboat

The Serenity Houseboat can accommodate up to six guests. It consists of two rooms, each with a double bed and in the lounge, you will find a double sleeper couch in front of the fireplace. It has a fully equipped open plan kitchen. The lounge has a big window door to not spoil your views of the lagoon that can open up to the full length of the wall, thus, creating a beautiful space of the lounge running on to the deck. The deck has your braai and table, so you can enjoy your braai while keeping an eye on the kids as they splash around. It has the following facilities and amenities:

  • 2 bedrooms
  • 1 bathroom (Double shower, toilet, basin)
  • Lounge with a sleeper couch
  • Fully equipped kitchen with a gas oven, microwave, and fridge
  • Solar electricity

Nirvana Houseboat

The Nirvana Houseboat consists of an upper and lower deck. It is luxuriously finished and ideally suited for use by corporate groups, family holidays, special occasions, and functions. It accommodates up to 24 guests. It is approximately 400 square meters in size and weighs 130 tons. A naval architect designed the houseboat according to South African Maritime specifications. The lower deck of the Nirvana accommodates a maximum of 14 people.

  • Lower Deck

The lower deck has a spacious lounge with a fireplace and a sound system. The lounge leads out onto the large, wind-free foredeck, equipped with tables and chairs, making this the ideal spot for dining with a view. It has a state-of-the-art fully equipped kitchen with a large gas stove, oven, and fridge with kitchen utensils, crockery, and cutlery. In fact, all you need to bring is your food and drink.

It has five spacious bedrooms, each with queen size beds which can be split into two single beds, depending on your sleeping preferences. The sixth bedroom is equipped with two comfortable bunk beds that can sleep four. There are three full bathrooms with flush toilets, large pentagonal showers, and basins.

The foredeck has a large wind-free area leading off the lounge, offering guests a unique dining area with spectacular views and shaded outside seating. There is also a spacious 45-square meter floating platform, leading off the foredeck area, offering barbeque facilities, sunbathing, and swimming.

  • Upper Deck

The upper deck of the Nirvana accommodates a maximum of 10 people, it can be accessed from either the aft-or fore-deck via staircases on either side, respectively. The spacious lounge offers spectacular wrap-around views and has plenty of space for luxury laidback relaxing as well as a bar-counter area.

It has two bedrooms, each with queen size beds which can be split into two single beds, depending on your sleeping preferences. The third bedroom is smaller and has a comfortable double bed which cannot be split into two singles. There are also two comfortable double sleeper couches in the lounge area. There is a large deck for lounging and sunbathing and a full bathroom with a flush toilet, a large pentagonal shower, and basin.

Larus Houseboat

The Larus Houseboat accommodates a maximum of six guests in three cabins. It consists of a well equipped open plan kitchen and dining area with a braai facility. The main cabin has a queen size bed and the second cabin, a comfortable bunk bed that sleeps two. The third cabin has removable mattresses which are used at night and sleeps two. It has the following facilities and amenities:

  • Deck under a covering
  • Solar panels and inverter
  • Exterior bench
  • Stainless steel stations and wire railing
  • Gas geyser
  • 45-meter square boathouse
  • Aluminum windows

Rules and Regulations

  • Unfortunately, no music is allowed in any national park.
  • Fresh Linen and one towel per bed is supplied. You are suggested to bring extra towels for long stays and splashing in the water.
  • You can drink the water on the boat. The water is pumped into the boats holding tanks from a freshwater tank.
  • There are braai facilities on the boats' decks with grids. You are welcome to bring your own grid, wood, charcoal, or purchase a 30-kilogram bag of wood from friendly skippers at 130 ZAR per bag.
  • As much as this saddens Kraalbaai, they can't allow animals on the boats. Unfortunately, you will be in a national nature reserve and have to adhere to the rules and regulations of the park.
  • Wi-Fi is not available on the boats, it's going to be just you and the tranquility of nature all by yourself.
  • Kraalbaai has staff who are available 24/7 and resides onshore. They will ferry you to and from your boat in a leisure boat as required. *When you first arrive on your boat, they will do a small introduction regarding safety and the equipment on the boat, whereafter, you will be supplied with their mobile number.
  • Units are self-catering and have all your basic utensils, from forks, plates, cups, bowls, pans, pots, etc. including outside braai, fridge, gas stove, and microwave.
  • All taps from the kitchen sink to the shower are supplied with hot water from a gas geyser. If, for some reason, there is no hot water, please contact the skipper onshore.
  • The electricity on the boats are 5kva 220v solar. This should be enough for all your daily needs from charging phones to laptops. Please keep in mind it is solar and the more you use, the less you have.
  • Nirvana can have extra eight day visitors and Larus can have extra six day visitors; these extra persons should be off the boat by sunset as per SAMSA requirement.
  • You can arrive in your own boat but the lagoon requires a permit which can be purchased from SanParks Offices. Just make sure your skippers, buoyancy, and fitness certificate travels with you. You can launch at the yacht club and club Mykonos for a launching fee or for free in Alabama street in Langebaan central.
  • At Kraalbaai, you will find two levels of parking. The lower and upper level can be seen from the houseboats. Please note that it is not covered parking.
  • The houseboat is permanently anchored and does not sail or drive around. The experience offered is a floating home which gives you the feeling of staying on your own private island.


The houseboats are located at the West Coast National Park. The park's gate operates on the following times:

  • September to March - 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • April to August - 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

How to get there

Directions from Cape Town

From Cape Town, get on the R27 and follow it for 85 kilometers, then turn left into the Sanparks gate about 10 kilometers after the Yzerfontein turn off. Follow the road for 22 kilometers and turn right into Kraalbaai.

Once you are at the West Coast National Park gates, either from the R27 or from Langebaan's side. You would need to head to Kraalbaai, 21.3 kilometers from the R27 gate and 31.6 kilometers from the Langebaan gate. Feel free to use the map you received from the gate. You will spot the houseboats long before you are at Kraalbaai on your right-hand side. There, you will find the houseboats.

You must inform Kraalbaai of your arrival time so they can have skippers wait for you at the jetty or you may contact them, the moment you are in Kraalbaai. They will assist with your luggage and transport you to your boat. They will do a small introduction of your boat, ins and outs regarding safety, electricity, and warm water. After you will be supplied with a cellphone number for any assistance and getting on and off the boat.

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 50% of the total price.
  • The deposit is fully refundable if the booking is cancelled up to 7 days before the arrival date.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid 7 days before arrival.
