This surf camp will take place in Esposende, Portugal. Due to its geographical position, Portugal is blessed with some seriously sweet swells throughout most of the year. For intermediate to advanced surfers, both spring and autumn are when best conditions are gathered for surfing. Swells do slow down in the summer period, which is when it is best both for beginners to intermediate surfers.
Esposende is a top surfing area with beautiful, long, sandy beaches, perfect for someone wanting to learn or improve one's skills. With an outside reef that slows down the Atlantic swells in some of its spots, you can always find a spot which will be more exposed or more protected from the waves suitable for every level of surf. Also, there are some sea walls along the beach which allow you to be more protected on stronger swells, they also originate point breaks which can deliver you some sweet surf sessions.
With over 14 kilometers of natural coastline, it is a particularly privileged area of beauty, with some of the best beaches in the North of Portugal. Foz do Rio Cavado, Apulia, and Ofir provide a unique beauty to the region, and all the beaches are protected under conservation laws.
The gastronomy of Esposende is also rich with great maritime influence, with emphasis on the bass baked in the oven, mullet, flounder, lamprey and of course, fresh locally caught seafood, all watered down with local wine from the regions of Portugal. However, during the summer months of July and August, Esposende transforms into one of Southern Europe’s premier locations and best-kept secrets. This is where the youthful, cool, and beautiful people of Portugal, Spain, and France come to the party and take their vacations, with the nice rolling waves at an uncrowded beach and hot summer sun, it's the perfect recipe for surfers and sun worshipers alike.
Esposende offers a unique spot for water sports. The river Cavado flows next to the sea, separated from the Atlantic ocean only by a sand dune. The spot accessible by boat makes it very exclusive location, perfect for everyone from complete beginners to the most advanced riders in kitesurfing, surf, and stand up paddle. When you cross the dune, you get access to the Atlantic Ocean, with its swell rolling in, creating a natural playground for surfing and kitesurfing strapless in the waves.
