Phu Quy Island is located about 120 kilometers from Phan Thiet City to the east in Binh Thuan Province, Vietnam. It’s as dazzling and sparkling as its name, which in Vietnamese means wealth and honor. The island comprises ten small islands. Seen from the sea, Phu Quy Island looks like a giant whale which is crossing the sea. This island has many knolls, hills, and sand dunes. The island looks a little bit urban, but you can easily find ATMs, well-equipped hospital, mobile networks, and internet connections.
Phu Quy’s Skate Park is an untouched large white beach bay, located 20 minutes southeast from the main village and harbor. It consists out of a big lagoon protected by a few rocky islands and a variety of other reefs. Phu Quy’s Skate Park connects to the east to other spots. Here, you will find some challenging wave condition. It’s a multi-spot with a flat-water lagoon and amazing wave sections at the outside. When swell picks up, you can ride small to mid-size waves in the lagoon. This destination is recommended for advanced to expert riders in the winter period. In summer, the destination is accessible for all levels.
Phu Quy’s Big Lagoon is located in the second most populated village in the north-east part of the island. The big lagoon is protected again by some beautiful rock islands with flat water and waves at the outside. Again, this is an amazing multi-spot for all levels.
You can visit Linh Quang Pagoda in Long Hai commune (one of the oldest pagodas of Binh Thuan). You can also visit Linh Son Pagoda in Cao Cat mountain at the height of about 80 meters compared to the sea level. At Linh Son Pagoda, you can contemplate the panorama of the whole island and take pictures of big imposing rocks.
Also, you can pay a visit to Van An Thanh, an over 200-year old whale temple which houses approximately 100 skeletons of whales, dolphins, and turtles. Not only that, you can also enjoy sitting on the boat to stroll along the islets around Phu Quy Island, riding a bicycle or motorbike around the island (16 square kilometers), learning about Phu Quy's fishing culture and cages, visiting Temple of Princess Ban Tranh, snorkeling, and diving.
