My sister and I spent a week at a Yoga Retreat in Nicaragua with Julia Gavin. Julia is fantastic! We had 2 hours of energising Ashtanga Yoga practice each morning and then more of a workshop opportunity in the afternoon. All of it was wonderful. Julia is a true professional. She worked through all the poses with us in class in the morning and had more one on one training on particular body parts that each of us was interested in during the afternoon practice. She has the movements of a dancer and a lot of knowledge about the history and philosophy of yoga. It was exerting but at the same time relaxing and restorative. I especially loved the 15 minutes we spent on the beach in meditation. She also has a great sense of humor and is a lot of fun. If I have the opportunity, I would love to take more classes with Julia.

I had the opportunity to meet Julia during a week-long vacation Los Clavos Surf Camp in Nicaragua. The students ranged from practicing yoga for the first time ever to practitioners with years of practice. In a class of several people with such diverse practice backgrounds, Julia’s instruction always felt like it was customized just for me. She is incredibly knowledgeable about the postures and alignments and is also able to read the group well and adjust the intensity of each class accordingly (which is important after spending hours surfing!). In addition to being a wonderful instructor, she is a lovely human being with a passion for teaching and sharing her vast knowledge with her students.

During the last week of March I had the fortunate experience of enjoying a yoga retreat at El Coco Loco in Nicaragua. The instructor for this retreat was Julia Gavin. I was traveling alone and from the beginning Julia made me feel welcome. Answering all of my emailed questions promptly and with friendly enthusiasm, I knew I would be in good hands. I was so right! Julia’s Ashtanga Yoga Yoga Classes where some of the best I’ve ever attended. Her calm, clear instruction, strong knowledge of the correct postures and patience with us all were so appreciated. It is obvious Julia is passionate about what she does and passes this enthusiasm on to her students. Going out of her way to help me before class with postures I was having trouble with, Julia gave her best. I wouldn’t hesitate to highly recommend any of Julias’ classes and retreats. Her fun, open and enthusiastic personality was a joy to us all!

The one-week immersion into the historical, physical, emotional, and spiritual aspect of yoga at Dreamsea Surf Camp in San Vincente de la Barquera with Julia in September was like a spa for the mind, body, and soul. Extremely challenging, totally enriching, and utterly relaxing. Julia is a fantastic teacher being able to make you understand the different aspects, techniques, styles, and methods to broaden your horizon. It was fascinating to watch her move with ease and then guide me to reach my goals. She is intrigued and interested in everything and anything concerned with the practice of Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga and passes all this knowledge on. It is like an endless source of energy and vitality.

Julia came to teach a meditation and chanting workshop at my studio in Cheshire. It was aimed to beginners and all students left with enough information to start to exploring other the other limbs of yoga as described in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. Julia’s teaching style is very accessible and she has a field of knowledge to offer. The time spent in the workshop was enriching for the participants and they had time to breakdown information, ask questions, and demystify. It was very personable.

I joined Julia for a one-week retreat in North Spain. I was impressed by the standard of teaching and the variety of techniques used in the sessions. Julia is a very attentive and insightful teacher. Every comment or adjustment made a difference and by the end of the retreat week I made more progress than in a year of weekly classes. The lessons were tailored for the audience so that those with less experience were made to feel comfortable without compromising the progress of others. I especially liked the level of intensity in the highly energizing morning flow classes.

Julia was my teacher in the 200 and 300 hours teacher training in India and to put it into simple words; she is my teacher and she will always be. I did a one-week retreat with her in Spain this year, which was amazing. Julia is a very mindful teacher. She understands students capabilities as well as limitations and chases them from there to bring out the best and more. I love her accent and the humor she brings into class.

Classes are always nicely sequenced, while Julia doesn’t hesitate to be flexible enough to adjust the plan on the go. Julia has a huge knowledge about all aspects of yoga, be it philosophy, the Yoga Sutras or anatomy. Her passion makes every subject interesting and easily accessible. I believe that’s a quite strong skill. I am already looking forward to my next lesson with her, wherever in the world this might be.
