Traveling to several surf spots on the main island, Viti Levu, you will experience village home stays, tropical dune camping and a funky bohemian style local lodge while having fun surfing with locals and tourists on the waves. This is a unique experience for those who want to see and experience traditional Fiji and learn to surf in paradise. Whatever level you happen to be, you are welcomed and encouraged to enjoy the waves!
You will stay for 2 nights in a local homestay, spending 2 nights by dune camping, and spend the other 2 nights in a locally run bohemian surf lodge. Island Spirit has hand picked partner villages to provide a unique village homestay.
You will have your own private comfortable room in a family house within the village. You will share a toilet and eat with the family, usually on the floor in the traditional style. Camping is in a tent provided and located within ancient dunes.
You will also stay in a mixed, six-bed dorm at the bohemian style surf lodge. An upgrade to private garden bures is available on request. Please let Island Spirit know in advance.
Your guide and teacher will collect you from the airport and take you to the first of three surfing locations along the Coral Coast. Your village homestay is a rare chance to absorb the traditional way of life here on the islands. He will tell you all about the local customs and village rules so you feel comfortable before hand. After that, you will be taken to the first surf lesson or guided tour.
You will enjoy a surf lesson or guided tour. It is followed by village activities.
In the morning, you will travel about an hour along the coast to a tiny local campsite which nestles in the ancient dunes. You will surf on the high tide on a beach break.
Today, you will surf on the high tide on the same beach break. You will also go to a dune where you get a chance to learn about the flora and fauna of the local environment and hear some local stories.
In the morning, you will head up the coast to a bohemian style surf lodge. You will surf on high tide and if you have any energy left, you can take a kayak out to the reef or go snorkeling. Optional activities are also available on low tide.
You will surf on high tide and then spend a few hours on the locally guided jungle walk. After that, your guide will give you a basic lesson on how to plant coral for conservation purposes (also known as ‘coral gardening’).
The check out time is at 10:00 but you are free to use the facilities all day. Your final surf will be on high tide as usual. You can take the kayak out or absorb ‘Fiji time’ on the beach.
Besides a guided jungle tour and a beach walk to a waterfall, you will also visit one Fijian island.
On this surfari, you will visit several landmarks in Viti Levu Island, Fiji, which includes Sigatoka Sand Dunes, Cuvu Beach, and Sanasana. The water in Fiji is warm water and uncrowded.
The currents also affect the water’s visibility which can be the best around, with incoming currents bringing clear sea water into the lagoons and outgoing currents removing any cloudy lagoon water. When the current is present to any reasonable extent, the grateful corals expand to their full. The nutrient-rich waters also promise plenty of pelagic fish species. Barracudas, a variety of reef sharks, and manta rays are found throughout.
All daily meals will be served for you. You will enjoy a variety of freshly made western and local dishes such as spaghetti, pizza, soup, roast chicken, kocoda (marinated fish in lemon juice served with diced tomatoes, onions, and coconut milk), ika vaka loco (fish cooked in coconut milk), and lovo (traditional earth oven). Vegetarian options are also available.
