They are an ecological hotel and camping site located only 20 minutes north of Cancun's downtown in the Chacmuchuch lagoon Natural Reserve. Ikarus Kiteboarding has a big garden where you can set your tent or your recreational vehicles. They also have space for 10 hammocks in a beautiful palapa as well as 10 rooms with double beds and private bathroom featuring hot water. They generate their own power with solar and eolic systems.

In addition, if they have no rooms available or you prefer camping, you can camp at the beach in the shade of the palm trees or in the shaded rooftop. Ikarus Kiteboarding has big tents with a bed inside.

Program

In addition to extra measures taken for the new hygiene and cleanliness standards, the limited group requirement remains in place for many countries to prevent and control COVID-19 spread. Therefore, Ikarus Kiteboarding would like to specify that groups are only intended as private groups (meaning that only members of the same group can book on the same dates):

  • 2 people (partners or friends)
  • Maximum group of up to 6 people that will be split in 2 or 3 small groups

The first part of this program will take you through the steps of equipment set up, flying techniques, and safety. Furthermore, you will be piloting an inflatable kite, learn to water-relaunch, learn body dragging on the water, and learn a self-rescue technique. No experience is needed for this activity, you just have to be able to swim.

The certification standards have been designed to validate your levels from your first body drag to your first jump. These standards will also allow the instructors to know exactly what you have learned and from what point to take up your training and allow kiteboarding centers to know exactly what kind of equipment you are capable of renting.

Disclaimer

This disclaimer is considering a no wind day and most customers arrive in the evening and leave in the morning-midday. In case you have two no-wind days, you could still make the 9 hours considering doing 2 hours of theories, safety and water training with no wind like self rescue techniques, etc. and you can do the 7-hour in two days.

But in case there is no wind at all, customers can do some wakeboarding with the wave runner or wake foiling. In case there's a little wind but not enough for kiting, they can teach wing SUP, but probably the value of the package will not be used in full and in case the climate is very bad with strong rains. This is very unlucky (and unlikely) if in all 5 days you have only bad weather in this season, but 2-3 days of bad weather is still very possible.

This retreat will take place on Isla Blanca in Cancun, Mexico.

How to get there

A taxi or shuttle from the airport will be faster but much more expensive (1 hour).

Be sure to show them on google map the location: Ikarus Kiteboarding Center

Driving directions

  • From Cancun (20-40 minutes), the easiest way is to follow Av. Bonampak all the way towards north.
  • Then this same street turns into a road called Prolongacion Bonampa, a drive between the mangrove, leaving on your right side Puerto Juarez and Punta Sam.
  • Pass Hotel Villas del Palmar until you arrive to a roundabout with a gas station and a Go-Mart, then the Playa Mujeres entrance (a big gate!).
  • Next right you find a paved road.
  • You follow that paved road all the way with the golf course on your right until there’s a roundabout where there starts a new paved road.
  • You follow this road, pass the roundabout of Costa Mujeres, keep going straight pass all the big hotels until it becomes a dirt road.
  • Be sure not to take the parallel road on the right that goes to the entrance of the new hotel Riu Dunamar.
  • Drive 3 km of dirt road until you find an Ikarus sign on your left, and a big blue post on your right!
  • You turn left and follow the sandy road until the end, and you’ve arrived! They are on the lagoon side!

Notes

If you are driving, be careful to follow the speed limit, they have many wild animals that could be crossing the road and the police with speed checking radar will often be hunting.

Public transport

The public transport minibus stop in Cancun is at the corner with Av. Tulum and Av. Lopez Portillo next to the Farmacia Canto. You take the white and red minivan that says Isla Blanca. The minibus schedule should be 7 a.m., 11 a.m., 4 p.m., and back half an hour later.

If you take a taxi, just say Ikarus – Isla Blanca (almost at the end), 3 km after Hotel Riu Dunamar. Just in case you miss the entrance, after 1 mile the dirt road ends on the beach and you cannot go further.

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 45% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
