Such a warm, welcoming environment with clean bright airy bedrooms and two great spaces for classes. All staff are incredibly thoughtful, considered and helpful, making your stay even more enjoyable and relaxing. Instructors are amazing, encouraging all students to work within their own means and develop their practice and confidence.

One tiny communal kettle for all to share/ no kettle in your bedroom.

Heaters in bedroom are not energy efficient.

I went to House of Zen for the New Year retreat together with my mom, and we were both really happy with our stay! The accommodation was lovely, simple in a good way, with everything we needed in the room and a always clean bathroom on the other side of the hallway. It was a very quiet area, but still very close to the ocean and a little square where we could find restaurants, cafes and a really great supermarket. We also walked to Cascais a couple of times - it took about 30-40 minutes and was really stunning walk. It is also possible to rent bikes!

The experience overall was really nice from the minute we came and were welcomed by the beautiful staff. Totally tranquil and we felt very welcome and at home right away. The yoga classes was great, and even though me and my mom have very different background in yoga we both found them accessible and challenging enough. Really knowledgable and skillful teachers that was able to create a safe space for everyone. The meditation and the mindful walk was also really fun, really creating a different transition to the New Year.

And the breakfast was delicious, we especially loved the fresh pressed juices, so yummy!

We can totally recommend House of Zen if you want to stay in a calm place were you have yoga classes just down the stairs, and also a lot of other activities available. Very close to Cascais, Lisbon and Sintra, so it is a great place to explore from too. We'll be back for sure!

The staff at the House of Zen were very helpful in helping me settle down and guiding me on how to get to the train to go to Lisbon. The location is very close to the beach, so I highly recommend picking a warm time of year to go here.

Kimma was fun and took time to explain the specifics of some postures. I loved taking her class as it reminded me why I went on this retreat -- to unwind and slow down.

The breakfast was made fresh each morning and was delicious! I highly recommend this location for a retreat because you are getting great accommodation for your money.

It was a little cold at night and the space heater provided was not efficient at keeping me warm.

We did some yoga classes, all given by good instructors. Really wonderful to experience that they adjust the lessons to what we needed at the time!

The house of Zen is peaceful and tidy.

The surrounding is wonderful with the wild see and the beautiful coast.

I had a really nice time during my 4 day stay at House of Zen! The yoga teachers are very friendly, knowledgeable and would assist you so that you get the best out of the yoga class. I've also learnt a few new techniques, which I continue to do today. The rooms, breakfast and coffee are very nice. The beautiful beach is just 5min. walking distance. Generally, my retreat at the house of Zen was better than expected!

The main problem was that i ordered a yoga retreat, and it was not a retreat at all, but two classes in the morning, and one in the evening, which were open for the public, so in that sense it was quite misleading and dishonest.

The house and the rooms are fine, but i found the location also quite far from the train station.

Perfect little hideaway and great location for a restorative break! This is a wonderful yoga studio with a great vibe, everyone is super friendly and welcoming. No task is too great and they are happy to help. Wonderful classes with personal touches that make a bit difference. I organised my classes in the morning so that I had the day to explore the local area. There's lots to do with great transport links.

Nothing to share, it was positive all the way for me!!

A beautiful calm and restful stay. Sylvie was an amazing host, who didn’t just make me feel instantly welcome, but was there to make my whole stay as enjoyable as possible! The yoga classes were fantastic, the quality of instruction was excellent. Perfect location for time to relax between classes.

Very nice and sweet people who really do everything to make you feel welcome and try to do the best they can.

Despite that I found my experience here disappointing. The value for money in my opinion isn't good enough. I felt that the rooms were quit small and the building was outdated. To share the bathroom with four rooms isn't ideal too. The garden could use some attention and didn't invite to sit there, the rooftop could use some nice lounge seats. It's hard to write a less positive review since the attempts were very sweet but when it comes down to it, you have to work things out yourself, for example rent a bike, finding your way around, getting your breakfast in time. On the other hand they organized a very nice evening with roasted chestnuts which we all could join and the welcome was very warm. So again that's a big upside. I can see if you would be here together (and also split the amount together) and can make day trips together is a different experience than what mine was. I don't mind travelling alone at all (travelled in total 2 months alone during this trip for example) but imagined this would be the place for me to hang around the house and regain my energy a bit and it didn't feel like the place to stay in for during the day which was again a bit tiring and if I've known this upfront, I would have stayed in Cascais rather than here. So I felt it might be useful to share. Other than that, the staff was really friendly!

Had a lovely experience overall at the House of Zen. My friend and I booked the 4 day retreat and indulged in 5 yoga classes over that period. All the instructors were very good and each yoga class was different. Everyone was very friendly and helpful also and there was a lovely calm feel to the house. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Felt totally relaxed the whole time. The breakfasts were amazing - healthy and scrummy! There were suggestions as to what you could do during your stay there also. We took a trip to the Sintra Mountains which we really enjoyed. Thoroughly recommend this Retreat.

    There were none.

What an experience. My husband and I loved the location, the House (of Zen), the atmosphere, the yoga classes (the one on Friday evening after the arrival was just perfect) and the mindfulness sessions. It was the perfect week end and we can’t wait to do it again. Thank you all, it has been a real moment of happiness and of self-exploration.

House of zen is perfectly located, great roof terrace views, short walk from the beautiful beach and along to Cascais. Plenty of restaurants to choose from and everything is so reasonably priced. As beginners we weren't sure if the yoga would be too advanced. This is not the case. Such a varied group of people from all over the world and all levels of yoga were at this retreat and nobody felt uncomfortable. We were all able to achieve our personal yoga goals in the most tranquil and spotlessly clean environment. The staff and instructors are some of the nicest people I have ever met and the place floats like a dream. Your breakfast is prepared in perfect timing to await you after your class and it is exciting getting interesting foods each day. Maryam was also an amazing instructor and I wasn't able to rate her on the list but wanted to say how great her classes were. Thank you everyone at house of zen, just what me and my mum needed to escape our busy, hectic lives. Total recharge. Silvie the owner is also the kindest person who makes it her business to get to know you and adds a really personal touch to your stay... as well as making a surprise fuss of my mum on her birthday with cake:)

    Nothing.

Lovely 3 night break in Estoril. The beach is only a 10 minute walk away, with plenty of good restaurants. The House of Zen is a great place to do yoga, particularly the roof terrace. Silvie is very friendly and welcoming, and Fiona makes the most delicious breakfasts.I found the yoga very enjoyable, Laura is very knowledgeable and a good yoga teacher. There is a beautiful garden out the back with hammocks, and the shared bathroom is very nice and spacious. There's also a corner balcony to relax on and a small 'living room' downstairs. I would certainly return to the House of Zen in the future!

I think the only thing that could be improved is having aircon for the rooms, and a mini fridge, so we could keep ourselves/ bottles of water cool if it gets too hot.

The personalised touch made to the healthy breakfasts. All made fresh by Silvie daily. The fresh juices are very tasty. Also the ambience the place provides, the calmness, the zen.

The yoga teachers (I had Athena and Kimma) knows their stuff, proud to be a yogi there! Silvie and Michele were great hostesses, very friendly and helpful.

The accommodation was extremely clean, and is cleaned daily. Bed comfortable, rooms are decorated to a high standard. The wifi connection was strong.

The back gate, used after hours, if the front door is not accessible can get stuck and you feel like you can't get into the accommodation. Spoke to the hotel owners and they immediately rectified it by getting someone in to inspect the problem.

Nice and quiet B&B in Estoril. Close to the beach and train station, so you can easily walk. With the train you can be in Lissabon within 30 minutes and in 5 minutes in Cascais. Very friendly staff: I felt (almost) like home. With no yoga experience at all, the teachers helped me in a very positive and supportive way. I can recommend this B&B to everyone!

The House of Zen provides a fantastic opportunity to develop your yoga practise with a wide range of teaching styles, thoughtful and experienced. I would highly recommend it from beginner to more intermediate yogis!

The accommodation provides the ideal backdrop: clean, calm, relaxing. There is also a beautiful roof terrace and garden to spend some free time. The breakfasts were varied, nourishing and pleasantly served.

Our hosts could not be more accommodating! Daily we were checked upon, advised of what the surrounding area has to offer and guided as to the best yoga sessions to attend for our requirements.

Will definitely be heading back in the future with some more guests!

Recently stayed at 'The House of Zen'.

And was just what I was looking for. It was a calm and tranquil haven.

It was a short stay to re-charge and re-balance which I felt like when I left. I had not practiced yoga for a while and they made me feel welcome and confidence to start practicing again at home.

It is also the sea and beach which is lovely. Could definitely come back.

The location is absolutely amazing, so close to Sao Joao train station and the beach and to Cascais which is a lovely walk along the promenade. The owners are friendly - morning breakfast chats were very personal and they genuinely wanted to talk to you and see if everything was okay, or to give recommendations (or just have a general chat). The rooms are simple yet clean and stylish. The 3 shared bathrooms are really nice, always clean and it didn't end up bothering me abouthaving to share a bathroom as I stayed downstairs and I think there was only one other room next to mine and we never had to wait to use it. The breakfast in the morning was fine (lacto-ovo vegetarian) but no soy/plant milk options. Nonetheless, the morning juices are made fresh and were delicious. And that garden! The yoga classes I attended were with Laura and Simona who were lovely and really knew their stuff. They are great at keeping the yoga practice all about the body, mind and spirit and it is easy to stay focused in such a quiet, open and sunny yoga room. As I only stayed three nights, I didn't feel that the retreat deepened my practice per se, but it was a great way to feel revitalised and relaxed during my time by the coast.

I tried yoga in two different places before coming to house of Zen and it was good but never really felt a “connection”. In House of Zen I found a great combination. I did morning yoga lessons with Laura (more active and challenging for me) and evening lessons with Nivea (slower-paced and great to get a feel for the poses with more time for corrections) and from the first day I fell in love with their positivity, helpfulness, energy and the way I felt after the practice. The house itself is nice and peaceful and Michele and Silvie always welcome you with a smile. I am gonna miss you this winter!see you in spring

You can also quite easily access travel to the Sintra mountains from where House of Zen is located - I spent a lot of time there and loved it! The house really does have a lovely, friendly and very Zen feel to it. The breakfasts were lovely with good coffee and fresh juices. And the rooms were always spotlessly clean along with the shared facilities. I attended the early morning yoga classes with Simona who I think is an excellent yoga teacher! Challenging and very compassionate in her approach to teaching - thank you again. And thank you to both Silvie and Michelle for providing such a lovely experience at House of Zen.
