Cape Verde is such an amazing place to learn or improve your surfing. It is a famous surf spot for various excellent reasons. And it is also a great place to spend your holiday. You will love the vibe of Santa Maria and the beaches are beautiful. And they have good weather all year round. Santa Maria is packed with lots of nice restaurants and bars. Combine this all with a great stay in a cozy hotel. After a good night’s sleep on a comfortable bed, you will have a delicious breakfast on the roof terrace, while you can witness Santa Maria waking up.
What a great way to start your day. Why should you choose this trip? You will have six hours of private lessons including beach transfer, but you are flexible because for wave surfing, two hours could be enough whereas you need six hours for kitesurfing, and some people learn quicker than others. Hotel MiraBela will pick you up from the airport and take you to the hotel where a welcome drink will be waiting for you. You will start your lessons after breakfast.
The surf school will pick you up at the hotel and take you to the surf spot, except for wave surfing, which is only 100 meters away. Santa Maria is an awesome place to go out and eat and drink. Please take note you can also mix the different kinds of surfing. In the hotel, they speak the following languages: Dutch, German, English, Portuguese, French, Italian, and of course Creole. The surf lessons are usually in English. Do not hesitate to ask if you want the instruction in another language.
Included excursions
To make your trip truly memorable, Hotel MiraBela also includes in the package an island tour, a good opportunity to see the whole island of Sal. This is almost a "must do" because you will have such a great day. On the island tours, you visit places like:
- The old salt mines where you can float like on the Dead Sea
- The fata morgana of Terra Boa
- Buracona, with the Blue Eye, caves, and magnificent views
- Shark Bay where you can walk between baby Lemon sharks
- The hill in Espargos with very nice views all around
A usual way to do the island tour is in (the back of) a pick-up truck. This day is usually done as a full-day tour.
Should you not want to do this amazing island tour, Hotel MiraBela will of course deduct the costs and you can decide to stay one night shorter (so 4 nights instead of 5).

Things to do (optional)
If you decide to spend more days with Hotel MiraBela than just the three days of lessons, they can arrange the best excursion on the island, being an organized island tour. They can also arrange any other excursion or activity for you, based on your preferences (or maybe on a no-wind day), like horseback riding, sailing, car or quad rental, a day trip to Boa Vista, or anything else.
Diving
Cape Verde has some nice dive spots, including wreck dives. It is not like diving in Egypt, but you can make some really nice dives here, comparable to diving in the Caribbean.
Quad or car rental
Doing a quad tour is a fun way to explore the island. You could even do the full-day island tour on a quad. The standard island tour of course is fully organised, but this may be more fun for some. They can give you directions so you will not get lost. There is a place in Santa Maria where they rent out quads with a big backrest. With two persons on one quad, this is a lot more comfortable. Cars can be rented in many categories for reasonable prices.
Turtle tours
From mid-June to late September, it is possible to go on a tour to see the big turtles lay eggs on the beach. This is done at night. The tour guide drives you to a beach where they search for the turtles to come on land. Since it is wildlife they cannot guarantee that you will see it happening, but 99% of the time you will be a witness of this impressive event. From late July until mid-October, the baby turtles hedge in various places on the island. It is very cute to see this happen and see the little ones crawl out of the nest. This happens in different places each year, so ask them where you can go to the best and they will find out for you.
