Generalities
Mentawais, every surfer's consumption dream. The amount, variety, consistency and quality of the waves is famous. To top it off, it is located in a tropical paradise away from large centers with nature still sovereign and almost untouched. It was exactly in this scenario that the idea of building a surfing resort with the differential of providing a unique experience was born.
Alexandre Ribas is one of the founders and currently lives at the resort with his family. It is he who receives hundreds of surfers every year and his job is to offer a place where, in addition to super comfortable and pleasant accommodation and infrastructure, he also has a permanent training center with a gym, yoga space and natural, healthy and tasty food. a work done with passion.
It all started in 2013 and, from the beginning, the idea has always been to provide the best possible experience of support for surfers and entertainment for family and companions, even without being surfers. "The idea was to provide everything that my partners and I have always dreamed of finding at a surf resort." Custom say Alexandre.
Andaipilates was the first partnership, and to this day it organizes from intermediate to advanced surfers, offering various activities such as Pilates, yoga, functional, and relaxation exercises. The menu is based on healthy and natural meals mixing international and local dishes, but always giving the right nutrients to make you ready for all new surfing sessions. This is a real surf marathon and you will find what you need to enjoy it fully.
Arrivals and departures
The departures from Padang to the resort are always early in the morning around 7 a.m. on the first day marked on the schedule, allowing you to arrive at the resort around 3 p.m. in time to get settled, having a healthy and energetic meal, and going for your first surf session on the islands. The return from the resort to Padang is organized late in the morning of the last day marked on the schedule allowing one last surf session early in the morning before getting back to mainland Sumatra. The arrival in Padang occurs around 6:30 p.m.
For surfers
A complete training center with highly qualified professionals and focused on the regeneration of your body and mind after each surfing session. Andreia Fornaro from Andai Pilates is responsible for the professional team who help you to be in shape and ready for all surfing seasons. Yoga, meditation, Pilates, biomechanics, and techniques of five Konzept (German method with little time to practice and without much effort regenerate all muscle groups) are the tools that will make your surf trip with no pain and minimal muscle and physical stress.

There is an exclusive location away from traditional surf camps areas with two waves in front of the resort, the wave of Hideaways which is just three minutes by boat and more than 20 world-class waves on average 15 minutes by boat from the resort. The trip
Your trip will begin around 07:00 on the first day marked on your trip schedule. Upon arrival at the city of Padang (Sumatra) on the day before the scheduled departure date of your trip, you may spend one night in the city of Padang. At the airport, one of Hidden Bay Resort Mentawais' representatives will meet you and take you to the hotel where you will spend the night.
The next day dawn around 06:00, their representative will pick you up to take you to the Mentawai fast boat which will make your journey from the city of Padang to the resort. It’s around a three to seven hours trip depending on weather conditions. On your return, you should usually arrive in Padang around 18:30 on the last day marked on your schedule. You must book your ticket out of Padang for after 21 hours. Sometimes, you will need to spend the night at Padang and take your fly on the next day.
The trip usually takes six hours going to Siberut (with a stop at Sikalabuan port first) and three hours at the way back depending on weather conditions. All flight itineraries need to be confirmed by Hidden Bay Resort Mentawais. Bad weather conditions and other reasons can delay the trip. Hidden bay Resort Mentawais will do everything to ensure you are able to make your connecting flights but they reserve the right not to be responsible for delays during the transfer process. Hidden Bay Resort Mentawais will not be held responsible for injury, death, damage, loss, delay, cost, expense, or inconvenience arising from travel misfortunes beyond their control.
People with connecting international flights should pay extra attention to the schedule and dates of the flights. If you are flying from Jakarta, you are recommended to book the international flight for the next day or after 23 hours on the day of your return. Hidden Bay Resort Mentawais has organized the schedule in order to allow you to surf on the first and last day of their trip. Location
The Mentawai Islands are a chain of more than seventy islands and islets on the Indian Ocean located approximately 150 kilometers from the west coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. The strait that separates them from Sumatra is the Mentawai Strait. Siberut (4,030 kilometers square) is the largest island. The other major islands are Sipura, North Pagai (Pagai Utara), and South Pagai (Pagai Selatan) and the indigenous inhabitants of the islands are known as the people of the Mentawais. The Mentawai Islands have become a major surfing destination in the world during the last decade.
The resort is located in the middle of the 20 waves of the northern region of the Mentawai. What facilitates rapid access to most waves within 20 minutes by boat. The nearest peak is to the left of Hideaways which is less than five minutes from the resort and the further away is the wave of Bugerworld that mostly works in the days of small waves.
Several secrets are easily accessible in propitious days, and to complete with the ideal conditions, two right and left can be surfed in front of the resort with high tide. The resort was chosen for being at one of the most constant areas with the highest concentration of perfect waves throughout Indonesia. The waves
The resort is located in the Playgrounds area where there is the highest diversity of good waves in the Mentawai Islands. Every wave is within a 15 minutes' speedboat ride from the resort and the closest one is Hideaways only three minutes by boat. There is always a protected wave with an offshore wind somewhere. Hidden Bay Resort Mentawais' swell window is huge from 240 SW through to 165 SE and the area gets consistently hit by a lot of swell from the Indian Ocean. The waves are the closest Mentawai waves to mainland Sumatra, which means less travel time for you to access the perfect waves.
Hidden Bay Resort Mentawais has waves that suit everyone from intermediate to professional surfers. The guest capacity is limited to 12 surfers which means more waves for everybody. Every difficult wave has an alternate and easier wave nearby. This means you can divide the group by different surf levels. In addition to the huge variety of famous waves of international quality, there are still many other secrets or semi-secret spots of excellent quality in the zone which is not shared in the website.
Burgerworld
It’s a right-hander mushier and good for turns ideal for days with little or no waves as it’s a kind of swell magnet.
Beng beng
This is a fun left-hander that provides a good wall for turns and an occasional little barrel at the take off on lower tides. A good option when the swell is small and west.
E-bay
E-bay is a hollow fast left with a good barrel section. It is very good when there is a good west swell around.
Pitstops
This is the right which is located next to E-bay. It’s a small to medium wave excellent for turns and very photogenic, breaking over a slab sometimes producing a small barrel on the takeoff followed by good sections for powerful turns or airs ending literally on the sand.
Nipussi
Nipussi is a right-hander a little further down the line from Bank Vaults, a mushier wave good wave for turns that occasionally produces short barrels on the take-off close to the rocks at low tide. It is one of the best options when the swell is very small as it works as a wave a magnet.
Bankvaults
Bankvaults is a heavy and hollow deep water right-hander with two distinct sections, one closer to the channel that provides good heavy barrels and another section deeper which also provides very good waves under ideal conditions and can connect all the way to the channel on epic days. You need to watch out for bigger sets that come out of nowhere.
Hideaways
Hideaways is a heavy and hollow left that breaks over a very shallow irregular reef of colorful corals. The wave has a late drop ‘ledge’ style and deep barrels on the deeper section close to the main peak and an easier take off with a section good for turns breaking wider.
No Kandui
No Kandui or simply Kandui is a super fast super hollow left throwing deep heavy barrels on every section. When the factors are aligned and the size and direction of the swell combine with the right, the wave turns into a tubular high-speed express that runs for hundreds of yards providing many deep tubes behind the peak from one section to another; It’s no wonder that Kandui is considered one of the best waves in the world! It needs a southwest swell and southeast winds to be perfect.
A frames
As the name suggests, it’s a peak that opens both left and right forming and “A’ frame, it’s a fat wave good for turns that ends in the channel, the left is better, hollower and can throw some good barrels on the inside at lower tides ending in the channel.
Rifles
Rifles is one of the best waves on the Mentawai islands. It is long, perfect and with many barrel sections.

Built in the central part of the bay and facing the sea, the Restaurant Sikerei took advantage of its geographical position.
With an area of almost 1,000 square meters and three floors, it is considered as the largest traditional construction already been made across the region. There is also multi-use space which includes a restaurant, bar, lounges, TV room, shop, office, functional and yoga room, gym, game room, surfboards room, kitchen, bathrooms, and laundry. All are nicely decorated and spacious.
