Food

A stay at Headlands is something to savor. This is true no matter where you choose to enjoy a meal or drink: At Meridian, the restaurant overlooking the sand and sea; in the main lodge, with a cocktail and an ocean view; or out on the beach, on a blanket by a crackling campfire. In every setting, the culinary team brings you the finest in Oregon coastal cuisine.

Meridian Restaurant and Bar

Innovative, ocean-driven cuisine is yours without leaving the lodge when you dine at Meridian. Reserve a table in the ocean view dining room, pick a perch at the welcoming bar, or find a spot by the fire in our unique indoor patio where you’ll be closest to the waves. Tuck into the catch of the day and dishes sourced from Northwest farms and purveyors at Meridian. Exposed beams, Oregon hardwoods, and sky-high windows create a stylish but relaxed dining experience. Come in for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

  • Mid-Day: 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

  • Bar: 8:00 a.m. - Close with extended hours seasonally

Things to do (optional)

Head out for a walk on the wide, sandy beach or go for a heart-pumping hike up the towering dune just outside your oceanfront room. Learn to surf in the bracing Pacific waves. Take your first ride in a dory boat, launching right off the beach to find fresh fish and crabs.

Stay in to watch the waves in glorious solitude from your private balcony or venture through the fire-lit lobby and down Haystack Hall, where sky-high windows bring in the summer sun and frame the famous winter storms. Cozy up at the bar or on a couch with a book, a drink or a friend - or all at once.

Pacific City and Oregon’s North Coast host all manner of festivals, sports events, food and drink tastings, outdoor opportunities and cultural gatherings throughout the year. Headlands Coastal Lodge & Spa and their Pacific City neighbors work hard to offer fun and interesting activities - planned and facilitated by locals who chose to make their lives here - that will ensure our guests love this place.

Whale watching at the cape

Beginning in late March, nearly 20,000 Gray whales will pass by the shores on their annual migration north to their summer home in Alaska. For a special treat, join Whale Watching Spoken Here volunteers at Cape Kiwanda just in front of Headlands, daily from March 23 to March 31, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Learn more about the Whale Watching program and Oregon State Parks.

Show and tell

Visit Sitka Center, tucked in the forest near Cascade Head, for a special glimpse into this seasons residents' creative insights and research. This is a great opportunity to meet the residents and find out more about the residency program at Sitka, which runs yearly from October to mid-May.

Sitka sedge walk

Join your adventure coach to explore Sitka Sedge State Natural Area, the newest jewel of the Oregon State Parks system and one of the largest intact estuaries on the Oregon coast. Located on the southwest edge of Sand Lake Estuary, the trail crosses through a rare combination of tidal flats, saltwater marshes, and forested dunes. Along the way you’ll have the opportunity to discover an amazing variety of plants and wildlife. Leashed dogs are welcome.

Whalen Island loop

Join and explore one of Headland's favorite nearby trails located at Clay Meyers State Natural Area at Whalen Island. The island is home to a mix of land and sea creatures including salmon, deer, otter, egrets, and kingfishers. An easy loop follows the perimeter of the island, passing through grasslands, mudflats, dunes and a coastal forest. You’ll be rewarded with stunning views and plenty of places to stop and watch birds along the way.

Two rivers trail

Join your adventure coach for a journey through the new Two Rivers trail at Nestucca Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Recently opened to the public in July 2018, the 192 acre Two Rivers Peninsula culminates at the confluence of the Nestucca and Little Nestucca River including a series of trails winding through dense, mossy-covered forest and along the tidal shores of the bay. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed on this hike as it may disturb the wildlife.

Evening hike to the top of Cape Kiwanda

Join your adventure coach nightly for a sunset hike up the tallest dune on the Oregon Coast. On a clear day, the top of the dune offers views of Nestucca Bay to the south and Cape Lookout to the north - with expansive views along the way. In the winter months, you might be lucky enough to view the Aleutian Cackling Geese as they soar overhead to their nightly roosting spot on Haystack Rock.
