Siargao (Shar-Gaw) is an Island on the East Coast of the Philippines. It is in the shape of a pear or a tear-drop and is part of the Province of Surigao del Norte. It has a land area of about 437 square kilometers. Siargao is situated at a coordinate of 9°52′ North 126°03′ East. It is composed of municipalities of Burgos, Dapa, Del Carmen, General Luna, San Benito, Pilar,San Isidro, Santa Monica and Socorro.

Siargao contains the largest mangrove forest in Mindanao, at Del Carmen. Having these beautiful mangroves allows for some excellent adventures through various streams and lagoons. The island is greatly influenced by the winds and currents coming uninterrupted from the Pacific Ocean, intensified by the Mindanao current running westward through the Siargao Strait.

Offshore in General Luna, a classic tropical island called Guyam Island lies protected within its surrounding coral reef with dozens of coconut palms dressed in the center circle of the island. Next to Guyam is it’s big brother called Daku Island which translated means “Big Island”. Off to the right of Daku Island lies a shining white sand bar island called Pansukian or Naked island.

The Island’s Pacific-facing reefs are situated on the edge of the Philippine Trench, and the extremely deep offshore waters assure the ocean swells have undiluted power when they encounter the many coral and rock reefs. Siargao has excellent surfing conditions, particularly during the southwest “habagat” monsoon from August to November, when the prevailing wind is offshore.

Harana Surf Resort is situated in the Municipality of General Luna which is home to the Famous Cloud Nine surf break. It is actually in front of another slightly unknown surf break called Tuason. It is a quick left that has some powerful and long breaks and huge barrels when it is working. It is more suitable for intermediate and advanced surfers.

Like the rest of the Philippines, Siargao’s residents are what makes it more fun here. There is a population of about 150.000 people on the island. The people are extremely friendly to tourists and most can speak up to four different languages. These languages include, English, Filipino (Tagalog), Visayan and their island dialect, Siargao-non. Hang out for a bit and experience their kind and friendly spirits!

The surf camp will be held in Harana Surf Resort, which is located in General Luna Town, right on Tuason Point (one of the main surf breaks of the area). It will take about a 10-minute walk to reach famous Cloud Nine and about 10-minute ride to get to the General Luna Market.

Surf spots

There is one spot right in front of the resort, but it’s not always possible to teach / surf there. There are 10 different surf spots around which may be used depending on the conditions, season, and the student’s level.

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Siargao Airport (IAO). Transfer from and to the airport is included. Harana Surf Resort will pick you up from the airport. You can get to Siargao Island through plane from Mactan Cebu International Airport (CEB) in the City of Cebu. Cebu Pacific is the only airline to fly to the island, but has a flight everyday on most times of the year. On certain times of the year they have two flights a day. The flight from Cebu takes about 50 minutes to arrive at Siargao Airport (IAO). Fly with Cebu Pacific or Philippine Airlines from Cebu.

If your are coming from Manila, you would need to book a flight to Cebu and connect a flight to Siargao from there. Take Cebu Pacific or SkyJet flight from Manila.

Arrival by ferry / boat

You may choose to get to Siargao Island via sea. If that is the case, your port of entry would be via Surigao City boat port. So you can fly to anywhere in Mindanao Mainland and take a bus to Surigao City. From there, you can hop on a boat to get to the island. Many of the boats get easily booked so you have to get there at least one hour before departure time.

Take a ferry from Surigao City to Dapa town in Siargao. If you miss the boats to Dapa, you may get lucky and get another boat to a neighboring city. Take note if you are planning on taking this sea route from Manila, you would need to spend a night on Surigao as the last boat to Siargao leaves right as your plane arrives.

Airport: Sayak Airport Airport transfer included: Sayak Airport No additional charges. You can request this in the next step.

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 50% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
