Location

Gateway to the Great Ocean Road, the town of Torquay, Victoria has a rich history in Australian surfing and tourism. Located just over an hour southwest of Melbourne, Torquay is a coastal town popular for holidays and weekend breaks as well as a mecca for all surfers worldwide.

Being the birthplace of surfing giants Rip Curl and Quiksilver, Torquay has its own unique surf culture with the Surf Plaza boasting flagship stores and discount stores to cater for every well-known surf brand around. It is a great place to look for the latest surf and skate fashion or choose from a wide range of new or secondhand surfboards to hire and purchase.

There is also a wide range of cafes and restaurants for all budgets and occasions and importantly is home to the world's first surf world museum in which you can spend hours discovering the wonders of the amazing culture and watch a surf movie. Torquay is home to Bells beach, the local iconic surf spot that entices surfers far and wide. Here the longest running surf contest is held, the Easter Classic, now stop number two on the WSL world tour where every Easter you can witness the world's top elite surfers battle it out to ring the famous Bell trophy.

Being one of the most consistent and least crowded places around Australia to surf, you can find something to suit all levels. From the long point breaks of Bells and Winki to the beach breaks of Jan Juc and Torquay, surf spots stretch nearly the entire length of the 350 kilometers stretch of the Great Ocean Road. Great Ocean Road Surf Tours has one of the best places in the world for their surf school and learn to surf programs.
